Znarkov will leave Dynamo by ending of this season and become the new headcoach of team russia.

In the Russian dressing-room after the 7-3 debacle in Vancouver, the players vowed to attend the World Championships that year (if they could) in order to make amends for the olympic flop by winning their third world title in a row.

14 players from the Olympic roster answered the call: Semyon Varlamov (the third goalie in Vancouver), 4/8 defencemen and 8/12 forwards, including almost all the big names - Malkin, Ovechkin, Fedorov, Datsyuk, Kovalchuk, Semin.

(By comparison, the only north American Olympians to show up that year were Corey Perry and Jack Johnson along with six Czechs, four Slovaks and four Finns and three Swedes from their respective squads).

The Russians ended up with silver, thanks to an upset win by Vokoun and the Czechs in the final.

I suspect the Russians will be a little more demoralized this time, having lost on home ice in Sochi and with no WC winning streak to extend as compensation. But even so, Belarus will essencially be home ice and I can see them fielding a strong squad in May.

Regardless of what the team is going to look like, if I was a betting man I'd put my money on Russia to win, they are going to be extremely motivated to save some face come May from their disaster on home ice in February. Canada will most likely not take it seriously again and just cruise, maybe this time some of our players won't be caught in a local bar dancing with beers in their hands, cough cough Getzlaf, Perry in Finland.

Znarok:
Kovalchuk & Radulov will most likely miss the upcoming World Championship in Belarus (because of health issues).
Next week we will announce the extended roster for the upcoming world championship

I think this would be an ideal opportunity to field a younger "experimental" roster.

If I were Znarok I'd go with Zaripov - Malykhin - Mozyakin as first line and then all other players 25 years max

Absolutely. You can only delay building for the future for so long! One of the reasons that guys like Tarasenko and Kuznetsov are underachieving now is that they have been pushed to the side in favor of the same old guys over and over again. Well, the same old guys once again failed to produce in Sochi. Its time to move on!

If Znarok "overlooks" Khudobin he is blind. Dobby is so due to have a NT stint.

Ryasensky removed from the national team (missed training and kicked him for it) and with him to break his contract with the club.

Today lines against Slovakia

Galimov

Denisov-Zaitsev
Chudinov-Mironov
Medvedev-Kutuzov
Grigoryev-Tokranov

Shirokov-Zubov-Prokhorkin
Glinkin-Malykhin-Karpov
Varnakov-Burmistrov-Kalinin
Lisin-Galuzin-Kugryshev

Not sure about that, Yeryomenko or Garipov are pretty good options aswell.

Garipov is young and inexperienced. He'd be a good 3rd goalie for such a tournament, just to get a sniff.

And Khudobin over Yeryomenko anyday... anyday.

But we get what we always get. Znarok can't go without "his guy" Yeryomenko. It doesn't work without personal bonds.

Looks like Khudobin is not going. Only Loktionov invited from Carolina. Bad decision there.

According to the President of Dynamo Moscow, Ovechkin will play at the World Championship.

5 guys confirmed by FHR: Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Orlov, Loktionov, Belov. The last two choices I personally don't like, but whatever. I'm more pissed about Khudobin non-invite so far.

Weird choice to snub Khudobin. So waiting for Bobrovsky to possibly come then?

Probably not. I don't think Znarok will wait. And moreover CBJ is better than most ppl think. I wouldn't count on their 1st round exit just like that.
