Ok, so 3 Olympic fails and 2 burned coaches meant nothing to our hockey, it looks like...
So far it looks like Znarok is Bilyaletdinov part 2

With the inclusion of Anisimov, the attitude seems to be "let's stick with the mediocrities we know, instead of trying someone young and new."

Speaking of young and new, what happened to Fedor Malykhin? He's not on the team anymore.

What's up with all this hate for Bob and Anisimov? Bob definitely deserved to be NT #1 goalie and I can't find anything wrong with Bob-Dobby-Vasya WC lineup. And for Anisimov, if Znarok can use him as effectively as CBJ coaches do, he is a lock for bottom six center position.

By the way, I find more interesting that Znarok told that inviting Tyutin and Nikitin wasn't even discussed, does it mean that their NT days are over?

Znarok: We are waiting for Mozyakin & Koshechkin
(Zaripov will miss the worlds because of an injury)

Who hates them, they are good players. Just that many of us think that it's unuseful to send to this year's WC a team packed of NHL "stars"

I have no hate at all for Bobrovsky - except for his poor performance against the US in the shootout, I thought that he had an excellent Olympics, and should be considered the front-runner for the next Olympics.

I consider Anisimov someone who just fills up a uniform and fills out a roster spot at the NT level. He is ok at the NHL level - not terrible - but I just have no concept of him ever contributing anything positive toward achieving goals in the NHL, much less at the NT level. In the Olympics, Russia would have been better off shortening their bench and sitting the line of Anisimov-Kulyomin-Tarasenko. I can't think of one good play that any of them made during the Olympic tournament. Its depressing to think that Anisimov is consistently viewed as one of the best forwards produced by Russia in recent years.

Hopefully, the days when Tyutin and Nikitin skated for the NT are long behind us.

So Tarasenko is somehow injured? Any word on Dallas Forward Nichushkin?

I still do not get how in the world we don't have Antipin (especially), Kucherov, Nichushkin, Prokhorkin, Kugryshev, Kadeikin, Malykhin and Apalkov in the team. Who cares if we'll win our umpteenth gold medal (which I doubt, to be honest), we need to develope more players and how they develop if they don't play high-importance games?!?
What was the point in having Khudobin playing two games in this tournament? Vasilevsky deserved two, Galimov one. NHL goalies should have been banned this season from the national team (no, it's not a rant against the NHL or NHL players, just that we need to let young players play in important games).
And Ovechkin. You must respect him because he loves playing for the Sbornaya, but for the love of God. He just can't play with the National Team. I do not understand how the hell we call him every single season for the WC.

2nd line is awful and getting ice time they don't deserve and playing bad defensively on top of that.

Lets attack Ovechkin.

Well, since Bob and Dobby don't have a lot of NT experience and they are not too old actually, it doesn't sound that bad to me.

Oh, here we go again with the 'Ovechkin makes NT play bad' talk, you could at least have waited until the end of WC with that :sarcasm: But jokes aside, can you remind me, which tournament, where NT didn't have issues with coaching, Ovechkin really failed?

yeah, actually he didn't looks that bad but for such an overhyped player his performance for the national team always leaves much to be desired. and i don't understand how many ovie's defenders crops out after statements like yours to deflect blame on someone else.

Don't you think that it would be much more useful if, instead of Ovechkin, for this year's WC they would have considered the players I listed above? Ovechkin won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, 2 bronze medals. Multiple time he was an All-Star team at WC level. He certainly doesn't need another medal (which I doubt he'll get this year, of course not only because of his) to call it a great career or to consider (or not consider) him one of the top players of the world. Same with Team Russia. If this year we'd get like 5th-6th place but with a lot of young players, it would be fine. The problem is that most likely we'll get that position AND won't play any youngster.

I hope I'm wrong.

I think what you're saying doesn't make any sense.

Russia is currently the favorite to win the entire tournament. Why? Because pretty much everyone else is sending their B teams, while the North Americans are sending their F/G teams.

It's not like you're definitely going to medal, but the likelihood of that happening is very high.

For you to finish in 6th place, you'd have to lose to either Finland AND USA (NHL scrubs/AHL/collegiate players), Germany (missing their entire NHL player base) and/or Switzerland (missing key players).

I don't think that's going to happen.

I wrote that statement as an answer to your "Ovechkin can't play with NT" statement, not to the 'Ovechkin Vs. younger players' thing, which is a completely different question (I would like to see Antipin, Nich and Kooch too actually).

Still I think there are couple of reasons why Ovi is here and maybe the main reason is that he and Znarok need to work together and prove that they can do it effectively.

huh? playing practically home and with all other teams having pretty crappy rosteres in comparison with us we'll most likely get a medal
