This is not our B team, more like the D team. Anyway, the material (and moral for a significant amount of time as well) of this Finnish team is so weak that with all due respect, if Canada doesn't win, the players should be ashamed of themselves. No offense. And that's even with taking Rinne into account.

Yea and even Rinne has been essentially Finlands 4th best goalkeeper since the lockout.

Is this just a plan?

We play bad through the preliminary round. Then we still are playing for WC gold. :)

Canada
Czech Republic/USA
Russia/Belarus/France/Sweden

This is almost perfect scenario to go into that match against Canada. With lesser material underdog team that was on the brink of elimination. Best goalkeeper by a mile in the tournament and leading players yet to play theyre best games I have great trust theyll beat team Canada. Forget the skill vs grinder ratios etc this is a new game. Character and will to win will decide it and Rinne, one way or the another.

This team has NO qualities of the former underdog teams we've had. That has worked before because we've had a hard working team. That is not true this year. All we have is a tossed salad of grinders trying to be skill players, all playing as individuals. The kind of play that has doomed CAN and RUS many times in the Å koda cup.
Also this team has no character so not hoping for much on that front either. Rinne has to go into full-on beast-mode and stop everything, not 55 of 56, everything, 'cause this team isn't going to score more than once against CAN (prob. in the shootout).

It gives me the creeps when people compare this team to the 2011 version because apparently they 'screwed up a lot in the preliminary round'. During the preliminary + intermediate stage they lost 1 game in regulation and had 3 (or was it 4?) partial point losses, losing 1 point each time. Because they won all the SOs. One of those point losses was to Russia. This team has already 3 regulation losses and one SO win, giving the Swiss the loser point. The 2011 had way more skill and character, they didn't **** their pants if they were down by a goal or 2, no matter who the opponent was.

The whining about B/C/F-teams is really perplexing. The tournament is not about the players who are out (for different kind of reasons). They are not playing in this tournament. There's no reason to talk about them. Still the Canadians seem to whine most about their roster, even though the relative roster quality drop is smallest for them. Maybe it's some "feel of insecurity" thing.

I don't think any hockey fan in Europe believes that winning WHC proves that the winning country is the best hockey country in the world. Even olympics don't prove that. The winning team is the best team of those participating the tournament. That's what this tournament is about: find out which team is best, not which hockey country is best. Players not in tournament have nothing to do with the gold medals.

Yeah, one can always argue about what does this tournament prove. IMO it doesn't need to prove anything. Olympics are valued high, but the tournament format is so ridiculous that it can't prove anything.

For Canadian readers: Yes, Canada is the most powerful and mightiest hockey country in world with best players. Other countries may still win tournaments and it's still not a fluke. Ice hockey is played on ice and not in a simulator. It's not a shame to not win a tournament. Tournaments come and go.

This, so very much. The 2011 - or more exactly, any of the Jalonen editions never lost hope. They kept on the steady the grind whether they were up by one or down by three, always trusting in themselves - and most of the time came out on top.

Get one on front for this squad however, and they just collapse. There are two explanations for this. Either they don't trust the current system - or they're not capable enough of executing it. And are aware of it well enough.

Either way, it's all on the management.

Looks like they've tweaked the PP units again.

PP1:
Immonen - Kontiola - Jokinen
Karalahti - Mäntylä

PP2:
Jormakka - Lehterä - Komarov
Hietanen - Palola

I wonder what Haula would have to do to get some PP time. I'd give him Komarov's slot on PP2. That first one looks rather... nice, actually. If Konna throws a cross-ice pass, OJ or Immonen should be more apt at burying it than Lehterä.

Will have to take a late lunch and catch some of the game.

Can just see Komarov pestering players all over the ice.

Good luck my friends from Finland ; I'll be rooting for Canada first obviously, but won't be disappointed if the Finns take home the gold.

Oh wow! What the hell! So, Finland did qualify to the quarters, after all.

And this game will be an ugly blowout - if heaven doesn't fall. Team Finland is just horribad. I don't understand how they couldn't come up with a better roster.

I will bet 500 € for Canada -- so, I don't evenb hope Finland to take this THIS TIME.

:shakehead

I'm sad Erkka won't have to answer for his mistakes now.

I also promise that if they happen to win gold, I won't be going to the party. I still don't know what it is about this team, but I don't feel anything.

I guess after seeing the start of this tournament, Jokerit exceeded the expectations.

There's very little enthusiasm about the whole deal. Not much hype and most of the coverage has been about all the different controversies. I didn't like the selections when they came out and they haven't swayed me so far, but if they do bring home the gold I'll accept that I was wrong to doubt them.

Well no one can't say that you aren't right about how we have been playing, but we are here for winning the important games. Now there is a chance to play without these mistakes in the next game.

Yep. Just shows that anything can happen if you make it this far.

Fantastic win! This win didnt come from skill or outplaying opponent it came from pure character. Last 20 minutes the leading players showed character it started from dressing room and they got the job done. Forget Keränen and Teräväinen and Pokka and co in this kind of do or die situation your leaders need to elevate and they did. Jori Lehterä has been physically/mentally/and emotionally locked down this entire tournament but it only needed 20 minutes to get his character and he did. The way that Rinne also locked himself up was fantastic after letting one go. And Finally shame on you guys, i repeat shame on you for ever questioning Jere. An absolute Vintage monster display. Jeres game tonight reminded why i love hockey so much just an absolute beast performance.
