WC: General Talk '14 — Czech Republic

Too bad that Palat has some injury issues, he would be great addition to our forward group. Also Sustr and Gudas are possible options too since Tampa is close to being eliminated.

When the czech league is over, I would like to see Zamorsky and Honejsek in camp. Just please say no to Kempny, Mr. Ruzicka

We have a lot of injured players in defense so there's a chance... but IMO Ruzicka will take young guys from Czech league, because he could see them during the season. I can see Jordan make it only if he is in camp as soon as possible.

It all depends on the NHL guys - Zidlicky and Z. Michalek and of course on the first round of the playoff (Sustr, Gudas, Hejda...)

Right now if healthy Sevc, Nemec and Nakladal should be there from the KHL. Kolar, Krejcik and Mojzis (turnover machine) could make it from the camp. Zamorsky and Eminger deserve a chance too.

What do you mean with Eminger? He is canadien.

Hi,

What about Radko Gudas and Ondrej Palat, as Tampa is now out?

They've never been at a WC but bot were in Sochi.

Ruzicka wants both of them and he also wants Sustr. But Gudas and Palat had healthy issues during play-off serie so I'm not very optimistic, even though I would looove to see them there.

Also it's confirmed that none of Zidlicky, Z.Michalek, M.Michalek and Hemsky will come.

Unless I have missed something, I guess the status so far is:

Will participate:
Jiří Hudler

Will participate if selected for final roster:
Michal Jordán

Status still unknown:
Radko Gudas
Jaromír Jágr
Ondřej Palát
Andrej Å ustr

Will not participate:
Martin Erat
Patrik Eliáš
Tomáš Fleischmann
Michael Frolík
Martin Hanzal
Aleš Hemský
Milan Michálek
Zbyněk Michálek
Ondřej Pavelec
Ladislav Šmíd
Jiří Tlustý
Radim Vrbata
Marek Židlický

Thanks. I wasn't aware if they are in the views of Ruzicka.

Indeed - looks more and more like a repeat of 2010. Can at least still hope for Jágr.

Not that it's very likely, but are there any NHL'ers left who could (theoretically) participate if their team is eliminated from the playoffs? Voráček, Sobotka, Polak, JaÅ¡kin and Kindl?

I'm pretty confident that Jagr will come, especially when he knows there's so many rejections..

Not sure if all those mentioned players have a contract for next year? If so and if their clubs let them, I think they would all want to go (maybe Voracek not as he has played full season+olympics this year and could be tired).
Of course, medical check-out will be decisive.
But I'm pretty sure that for example Sobotka would love to finally play for national team.

So, there is still more and more excuses. On the other hand it's good chance for young guns from Czech extraliga. I would love to see there Zámorský, Sekáč, Nosek, Honejsek.
Which players are locks?
Němec
Nakládal
Hudler
Červenka
Kovář
Novotný
maybe Rolinek
?
Also Å evc doing great job in Lev, Krejčík had really good season, Jank and Kolář impressed me against Norway. I'm courious about Jordán.
There is few interesting forwards in Lev like Řepík, Vrána. I really like connection from Pardubice Radil/Kousal/Buchtele. And of course there is strong group of "european" players Petružálek, Smoleňák, Vondrka and GulaÅ¡.
On the other hand Mojžíš and M.Růžička never impressed me. So does Kindl from Detroit.
Would be great to have at least on player of these - Polák/Sobotka/Rozsíval/Voráček.

Voráček, Polák, Kindl and Jaškin are under the contract. Jaškin has entry level contract, which means he could be sent back to AHL.

Sobotka sat out two games to end the regular season with a lower-body injury and is a RFA (like Frolik).

Also Růžička mentioned Roman Horák (RFA) as possible option too. His team is in AHL play-off now.

EDIT: FYI both Hejda and Rozsíval are under contract too.

I have to say I'm disappointed by Sustr, he doesn't really have a valid reason not to go imo (other than not having a contract). He looked solid in the Tampa-Montreal series, I was really looking forward to seeing him play-a big guy like that would come in handy!

I haven't seen game against Norway.

Without NHL additions I see guys like Å evc, Nakládal, Němec, Kolář as lock in defense (if healthy). It's solid group of experienced guys and also two lefties and two righties.

Mojžíš is a guy who I believe will join them too, because of his experiences even when I don't like him, because he is doing too many mistakes under pressure. Krejčík played well in Sparta and has connection with Růžička so I think he is in too.

So that's 6 D.

Jordán should make it if his transition to european rink is fine. And I really wanna see one of Vladimír Eminger and Petr Zámorský (both RD) to make it, but there is not much time to try Eminger I guess.

Forwards are different question, but yes, Vrána, Řepík and Sekáč should make it (if healthy).

I don't blame him, not having a contract is a valid reason for me. Especially in his case.

An injury could end up costing him a lot of money. He's professional and it just makes sense to want to limit the risks.

I think it's a very valid reason.

I think there's some sort of insurance for cases like this one. It seems like there's a lot of agent involvement to be honest. As the Czech coach Růžička said today, a few years ago no one was coming up with this excuse, it's been a recent invention.

It's also interesting that players usually don't care about minor injuries or not having contracts in pre-olympic years but a couple of months after Sochi, all of a sudden, almost everyone has got a great excuse for not participating. I don't like it, especially young players like Šustr, Gudas or Palát who haven't achieved anything so far should be desperate to play as much hockey as possible.

It is, but he is making his first strides in the NHL. No need to risk any injury, which could cost him his career or next contract.

Olympic games are special, you play with/against the best players in the world. WC is every year and it's not the best tournament (especially in Olympic year).
