On the Oilers broadcast last night, Johnson stated that Hall, RNH and Eberle will all most likely get invites, but all 3 are at present non-committal on whether or not they'll accept. I hope Hall takes up the cause, don't really care much about Eberle if he goes or not... but I would rather RNH not get an invite.

probably just being professional about it, even though they were eliminated from playoff contention around Oct 31st they will still finish out the season and then accept the invites. Scrivens probably will as well imo.

I'd rather not have so many Oilers accept the invite. Hall? sure. Eberle? maybe, why not! The rest? I'd take a pass.

Why not Hopkins?

One too many players from a losing club?

It looks like we might have pretty good D to pick from

Mark Giordano
Dan Hamhuis
Karl Alzner
Michael Del Zotto
Tyler Myers
Travis Hamonic
Brian Campbell
Marc Methot
Jared Cowen
Justin Schultz

Forwards
Nazem Kadri
Travis Zajac
Kyle Turris
Jeff Skinner
Jordan Staal <-- might not go
Taylor Hall
Jordan Eberle or David Perron
Andrew Ladd
Evander Kane
Zack Kassian
Cody Hodgson

Maybe
Adam Henrique

Will say no
Eric Staal
Dion Phaneuf
Any olympian

I bet both Nazem Kadri and Morgan Rielly make the team.

It would be smart to take Rielly. He had an excellent rookie season and could fight for an Olympic/World Cup spot in the next 4 years.

Does TC usually play any exhibition games before the tournament starts?

a couple usually. depends on where they stop in Europe before heading to the host city. I think last year in Switzerland or Denmark. (I think) I seem to recall a few tune up games there somewhere in that general vicinity.

Same here, I think this will be one of the worst Canadian teams assembled in a while. I've made my point about having the WHC in an Olympic year so I won't get into that. But I don't blame any of the Olympians for saying no. Who the hell wants to fly over to Belarus after a long season and already winning an Olympic gold to play in a second tier tournament? I know I wouldn't. Jonathan Bernier could get the call in net if the Leafs get eliminated early. Phaneuf, Rielly, could be options for Canada as well. Kadri, Lupul..who knows.

Anyway I'd love if we could win this tournament so we can shut up a lot of people on here who put any legitimacy into the IIHF world rankings. Being Olympic Champions (World Champions) and being World Champions #2 would look good.

Well, if Canada really cares so much about hockey as you say, one would think that you would want to win every tournament.

Canada must be the only team in the world who enters a tournament with the intention not to win it because it's during the NHL playoffs. :sarcasm:

For the record, Sweden won both the Olympics and the WC in 2006. :yo:

Going to Switzerland to visit a couple of friends and they bought us tickets to a Canada vs. Switzerland game on May 6th. I assume it is an exhibition game for the tournament.
Going to a hockey game in Europe is definitely on my bucket list!

TJ Brodie should get an invite, the dude is playing as a #2 defender on an awful team. He is a +1 on an awful team!

Giordano-Brodie would be an awesome pairing!

I would suspect that that would be one of their 2 pre-tourny games. Not surprising. Hockey Canada and the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation cooperate a lot.

This is probably the best roster we could send right now:

E.Staal - Spezza - Lupul
Benn - Seguin - Skinner
Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Ladd - J.Staal - Little
Turris

B.Campbell - Weber
Phaneuf - Giordano
Hamhuis - Green
Hamonic

Luongo, Bernier, Scrivens/Holtby

not bad

I wonder if Spezza would agree to go given how many times he's been snubbed by HC in the past.

@rjmackinnon
Per @pathenri #Oilers David Perron will play for Team Canada at #IIHF2014 World's in Minsk, Belarus. Would be 1st WHC for Perron

Perron is going it looks like.

Perron has accepted invite to play for Canada at Worlds. RNH, Hall and Eberle also asked, but remain undecided. #TSN

Said the rest is undecided but leaning towards no.

If they are undecided, then they can stay home. Only players who want and are committed to playing.. Hall is a little disappointing considering out of the 3 he has the best shot to make the World Cup or Olympic team when and if that opp. comes around...and the more international experience the better...but a long, disappointing season for the Oilers.. I don't see it as that big of a loss for TC if those 3 say no.

Considering that we already know what teams won't play the playoffs, I'm curious about these players, whether thay will play or not:

G: Smith, Bernier, Holtby

D: Giordano, Rielly, Green

F: Little, Doan, J.Staal, Skinner, Kadri, Lupul, Cammalleri

btw, Methot is going
