Good luck to our Canadian boys. I realize you'd much rather be playing for the Cup but I applaud you for heading to Europe to represent our country.

If the truth hurts- so be it. The fact of the matter is that this is not a best on best tournament. It is just like the Spengler Cup for me. If we win- that is great. If we lay an egg- so be it. It is a good tournament to evaluate up and coming young players. It is a tier 2 tournament. No one in North America cares about it. The Olympics is what everyone cared about. The Europeans know that Canada is the defending Gold Medal Champions. The only thing matters to Canadians is the Olympics and World Cup, and not this minor league tournament. That being said- hopefully some of Canada's young players have a good showing.

It is the timing of the WC that makes it less than popular with us. If our scheduling permitted, we would perhaps take it as seriously as it merits.

The European leagues end so that their teams can be formed to compete in the WC. At one time, the WC carried a lot more credibility, especially in Europe. Now that many of the Euros play in NA, it has become almost a ceremonial season ending tournament. I don't think any hockey fan recognizes the winner of the WC as the World Champion.

Yup! This a great chance of the young non-Olympians to audition and show if they can get promoted to the Olympic team next go around. It's like a try out camp. The international game is different than the NHL. The team should do well.

Yeah, yeah. Lets pretend Canada lost last two Oly`s, but won 3-4 straight WC`s. I bet there would be a lot of people who would say:" Olympics is just a stupid bo1, tournament, when you play 3 meaningless games in the group stage, then you lose bo1 game in the playoffs, and you are out, but we are winning all those WC`s, with our 3rd, or even 4th teams, that really proves how consistently good our team is, our depth is incredible."

I went to my sports bar last year and told the manager to put the Canada game on. The manager there did not know what i was talking about (LOL). I told them that the WHC was on and Canada was playing. The guy did not even know the tournament was going on and he is a big sports and hockey fan. I was a bit shocked by that.

Let me clarify- i enjoy watching the WHC, but nobody simply cares about the tournament when the Stanley Cup Playoffs are going on. When Canada won in 2007- it got brief coverage and that is it. When Canada lost in 1998 in the Olympics- that was debated the whole Summer. When Canada lost the last several years in the WHC- it was not even considered newsworthy. I think the timing of the WHC is the problem. I think the WHC is very enjoyable hockey, but always thought that it should be played every two years (maybe in the Fall) before the NHL season starts and not in an Olympic year. That way each nation would have its best players as well.

I think Reimer will have a good tournament. Playing in Toronto his game is always under the microscope, and people like to portray him as a terrible goalie at times, when he is anything but. I think Reimer will have a good tournament, and hope to parlay that into a new contract in a different city. Wish him all the best. He is a great guy from all accounts, and hope he succeeds wherever he goes next year.

lol you're assuming he's leaving

Ok, so I haven't really followed the WHC or anything, but I just have to say this.

Really? Really? Like honestly? This is the best roster you could get? Did everybody just say no or something? No Spezza, No Hall, No Eberle, No RNH, No Ladd, No Kane, No Benn, No Seguin, No Weber, No Giroux, No Staals, no Stamkos, suffice it to say that the list goes on...Couture...you get the idea.

I mean really? How is it possible that NONE of those players wanted to play? Some of them were notable scrubs from the Olympic roster. How does this even happen?

I get that maybe the guys that were on the olympic roster might of had no interest, which is understandable...but what about the rest of those guys? What the hell?

Always the same in Olympic years. Out of the top-8, it looks like Czech Rep is the only team with a better-than-usual team.

compare this team with the 2010 team. BIG difference is quality players. And that 2010 sucked.

As I have mentioned before Canada has the most players and the most rinks. If we emphasized participation, skill development and practice over winning, systems to win, and tournaments at younger ages we wouldn't have this embarrassment. As the Swedish hockey official said, ' If Canada did it right no one could touch them!'

No one does touch Canada in terms of talent. The system in place is at the very least adequate. If a very young Canadian team, missing literally all of Canada's best players, loses their first game, even to France, it's not the end of the world.

Hextall is? I know Holmgren is part of the U.S. brass.

Yep Hextall is in the management group. I suspect that is part of the reason that three Flyers joined the team after the first round. I am still waiting to hear that Johansen turned down an invitation, because inviting Read and Schenn instead of Johansen would be insane.

I want to know:
Johansen - did he get invited?
Seguin - Did he get invited?
Hamonic - Did he get invited?
Karl Alzner - did he get an invite?
travis Zajac - did he get an invite?
Ryan oreilly - did he get an invite?
Adan Henrick - did he get an invite?

Seguin was invited and refused. Henrique had surgery I believe, so probably not invited. No idea on the others, but I am curious.

With 2 roster spots open and the 2nd rd. of the NHL playoffs soon to be decided, do we fly anybody in or go with what's there? 1 D-man and a forward OR 2 forwards?

I hope for some late additions.
