MN started out with a bang with their first four 1st rounders. Gabby, Koivu, PMB, and Burns. Then they went on an atrocious run of 5 straight picks- Thelen, Pouliot, Sheppard, Gillies, Cuma. With the exception of Phillips(at a very late #28), and possibly FJo(too soon to say, and again at a late #24), the picks have been decent or better since - just no franchise players.

I just want us to amass as many high draft picks as possible, given where we are in the standings, and as a team in general. If Guerin doesn't see that we are a team in transition, then we are in big trouble.

1 point in 11 games for Boldy? How is that possible?
<insert snarky "skills" post>

Going by all reports (including the BC radio guys) it's not like he's been a ghost out there and not getting chances. An earlier post about him not using his linemates well enough seems like as good a theory as any, but that doesn't explain his 2.9% shooting percentage. I have a hard time believing he suddenly forgot how to shoot.

I've been as gung-ho about seeing him at center as anyone and maybe he just needs more time, but if moving him back to wing is what helps get him going I won't complain.

The nice thing about hotheaded young players is that they tend to grow out of it.
Yeah he’s even taken big strides from last year to this year. I would love to see Bruce try and deal with the kid though

Dewar with 1G + 1A against Chicago today.

It didn't bother me much initially, but the fact that Sokolov and Dewar are only playing intermittently and Lodnia was sent back to Niagra while guys like Beck, Bauman, Brown and McClain have guaranteed spots is getting a little annoying. We can speculate that the brass don't see those guys as "legit prospects," but at least they're prospects.

You have to believe that the Boys have a plan for how they're doing all of this. Just would be nice to have an idea of what that plan is. Russo the beat writer would've been all over something like this 5 years ago. Russo the analyst is too busy talking about Trampled by Turtles songs

It doesn't bother me at all.
-There are only so many players that can play each night.
-Lodnia back to the CHL was an easy move to make, he'll get lots of playing time. It's probably better than the ECHL for him.
-I think people are reading too much into Dewar not playing much yet. He's a rookie, so many things could be going on that would cause the coaches to wait on playing him much.
-Sokolov has been in the doghouse since camp last year it seems. I'm guessing he gets playing time as a cookie for doing well in practice.
-MN and Iowa have both been pretty healthy in their FWD groups. Once the injuries or bumps and bruises in the AHL players start to mount up they'll get more ice time. It's nice to have something in reserve for once rather than the tire fire of an AHL team.
-Iowa started off the year hot. It's harder to mess with the lines when you're winning.

Another thing to consider is Iowa's coach might be using this season for an audition to get a NHL gig. An overall good record and making the Playoffs looks better than a bad record and some "b" prospects getting more ice time.

That shouldn't be a consideration at all. Iowa is a developmental team. Guerin and Kurvers should be making those decisions.

Iowa is there to win as much as develop every prospect that comes through there all at the same time. A winning team and mindset is part of development. There were times in the past they had to bring up players just to get them away from the tire fire the AHL team was. The coaches are the ones that spend the time with the players in practice, film, travel, etc. If a guy isn't ready to play for whatever reason in the coaches mind then he shouldn't be playing. The GM making the daily game roster is an awful idea for any team. That's how you end up with things like Bitetto playing on your 2nd pair.

Winning in the AHL is how coaches get a chance in the NHL. If Houston hadn't gone from worst to the conference finals (they added some AHL lifers that season) the 1 year Yeo was the head coach he wouldn't have ever gotten the MN job, BB won a Calder Cup and went to the finals again the next year before he got his first NHL shot.

The difference this time is that Boldy wasn't considered a massive reach. Most mocks had him going before 12.

I would've been all over drafting Kaliyev if we had gotten a second pick in the late teens or 20's, but literally no one had him over Boldy at 12. He was considered a steal there.
