Matty P with a -4 in the box score ...anyone who watched, did his game reflect a poor defensive showing? Just wondering what he still might have to work on before getting a call up
I didn’t watch last night but I watch most - kids a stud

All our guys with points again last night.

Lysell with a net front tip. He has 19 points in his last 22 games.
Merkulov with a PP assist. He has 30 points in his last 30 games.
Poitras with a PP assist (same play). He has 20 points in his last 23 games.
Lysel and poitras look really good. They stand out to me.

Poitras has nice hands. is fast. He has really good edges. Has good hands. He shakes off defenders with relative ease. He is really good at making smart passes. He has a nice one timer. Sneaky good shot. He is really good at using his stick in the passing lanes. Poitras is the best player in providence.

Lysell has blistering fast speed. Elite skating. He can shoot and gets the puck up ice really well. He is also really good at shooting and passing.

These two players are doing really well for their age. Most the players in the ahl that can put up points at the rate these two have been are a lot older. I went through some stats the other day

People forget some insiders had Lysell as a top 10 pick (although he was mostly all over the place)

Talent is undeniable

I thought he was one of the best skaters I’ve seen in black and gold since probably Phil Kessel

I don’t understand the logic in not bringing up Lysell, Poitras, and maybe Merkulov. The Bruins have almost no offensive threats other than Marchand, and Pasta (and they are having down years). They are a slow team, and guys like Frederic, Coyle, Zacha have contributed few and far between offensively this season.

Mgt has the poor approach of keeping guys buried at Providence instead of giving them a prolonged look. You can’t bring them up for a game or two and then send them right back down. You can’t give them 7 minutes of ice time and expect them to flash. At the very least they need to see what they have in these guys on a more consistent and regular basis and then decide if they have a future with the team or if they should be moved.

Previous Bruins teams could constantly grind out 3-2 type games because their D was borderline (if not) shutdown. The current D corp here is far from that. For them to have any chance of winning more than a game or two in a row they need offensive production, and the season is deep enough to see that that is unlikely at this point.

Play the kids!

One thing to keep in mind is this team only has 5 forwards signed beyond this season. The D is pretty set and so is goaltending but after this season the forward group could look very very different.
I wouldn't be surprised if the plan is to keep these guys as waiver exempt as possible for now and then next year they are either plan A or plan B collectively depending on who gets signed or what free agents are picked up or not. So what I'm saying is their "plan" might be to let them grow together and then the focus is on next year.

I can see that, but with a few caveats. The first is that I would definitely not consider their D set going forward. There is one borderline top D in McAvoy, and as most players this year is not bringing his A game IMO.

I know trades can take a lot of give and take and a willing partner with a decent return, but I would hope they could move at least 2 (if not 3) players by the deadline. Frederic would be #1 given his contract being up and lack of production.

Also, keeping the status quo could potentially result in them missing the playoffs totally, or probably at best being eliminated in round 1. I don’t see much value in either of those scenarios. I

I guess I’d rather miss the playoffs and get the youngsters some quality experience and see how to build off of that going into next year, than to maybe scrape in with no real chance for any type of run.

Lastly, who knows? IF some, or all 3 were brought up who’s to say they might provide a spark this team is currently lacking.

To be clear, I totally understand your point and you are probably right. I just don’t share that approach given what I’ve seen this season

One more thing I’d like to add, Neely/Sweeney could very much keep the status quo, or maybe make a minor move or two before the deadline in that they are likely trying to keep their jobs.

They’d rather scrape into the playoffs and hope they either make a surprise run, or that getting in is enough to save their jobs vs. rolling the dice with some of the younger/iunproven players and risk not getting in at all.

This is Sweeney’s handpicked roster. Lindstrom was target #1 and Zadorov was his #1 D target. He wanted to build a tougher, more physical team come playoffs but so far the toughness and improvement vs last year’s roster just aren’t there

Alec Regula has still yet to play a game with the Oilers and it’s been over a month.

What’s the rule if he was to go back on waivers? Does he immediately return to Boston? Is there a certain time or amount of games played that determines it?

He still hasn’t been cleared to return from his preseason injury.

Still have no idea why the Bruins placed him on waivers when they did. He has a NR designation and isn’t counting toward the cap. If we weren’t forced to make a decision on him until his return, why did they?

Maybe the hope was he would go unclaimed since he wasn't close to playing yet?

I thought that too.

But then why not make the move at the beginning of the season when his injury was at its freshest and with a hundred other guys on waivers?

I’m a little salty about it because I wanted to see what he looked like in the NHL. It just seemed like a needless loss.

That's a very good point, that would have been the time to try it. I'm with you though, was excited from what I read about him, sucks he didn't get a chance here.
