Sochi Hockey Open

Russia U25 – Dynamo Minsk – 3:5 (3:2, 0:2, 0:1)

0:1 - Martynov (Spooner, Korobov)
1:1 - Novikov (Poltapov, Neuchev)
2:1 - Ozhgikhin (Tankov, Groshev)
3:1 – Yurov (Neuchev, Kabush), PP
3:2 - Gorbunov (Alistrov, Korobov)
3:3 - Varfolomeev (Spooner, Gilmour), PP
3:4 - Alistrov (Kuznetsov, Spooner), PP
3:5 – Varfolomeev

I only managed to watch the second half of the third period, so I can't say much. During this time, Neuchev and Poltapov looked good, as did the whole team, but they failed to score with a score of 5:3.

I woke up today and chose violence

I've lost track, do we have a running list of guys playing in the WJC part II?

Did Ostlund simply not make team Sweden or what’s going on there? Gonna be interesting to see how many guys that miss out on this tournament are at the next one in December

Ostlund wasn't invited much to the consternation of the HF Swedish contingent. He'll be on the December team
Seems like if you weren't there last December, you weren't going to be there in August either. At least that seems to be how Brandt Clarke was inexplicably left off Canada's roster again.

I think after the first period of the game SKA - Russia U25 Nikita Novikov was the best player on the ice among both teams. He started attacks well, made several breakouts and was reliable in defense.
Last year's scouting had him as kind of a rogue defenseman with good tools. Has he cleaned up his game in your opinion? How does passing and positioning look to you?

I think he looked decent against the KHL players, he is definitely improving and I like that he can not only play defensively, but also be useful in creation. It also seems that almost all the games in the tournament he were played by RD, as there were not enough defenders with a right-hand.

Sounds like he's on a great path. I appreciate it buddy!!!

Thank you for the Novikov update Fjordy!

It has been YEARS since we have had a drafted ELC defenseman. Hopefully Novikov and Lyckasen are signed to ELCs next year. Laaksonen is looking like a bust.

ELC watch the next 10/11 months
Ryan Johnson - looking like a goner
Portillo - I think he's a coin flip
Kozak - surprised he isn't signed yet
Levi - will sign, maybe lose 1 year of ELC?
Novikov - really hope he signs
Lyckasen - shown enough for ELC
iMarjala - no, too many wings in system
2023 1st - top 11 pick in loaded draft
