...and if we don't get a vaccine? There still is no vaccine for SARS.
This is what I’ve been saying for months. The chances of a vaccine are 50/50 at best, I say it’s that high only because the various other Coronavirus’ (SARS, common cold etc) have never had the amount of focus and effort being thrown at Covid-19. That’s why the managing of infection rates was so important, because this isn’t going away any time soon. Effective treatment is what we are going to depend on for the foreseeable future.

The players are not in the high-risk category. Some of the coaches on the other hand might want to keep their distance and not resume their coaching duties.

People with Type 1 diabetes are in the high-risk demographic. Some NHL players with Type 1 diabetes include Kaapo Kakko, Max Domi, and Luke Kunin. Should they not play?

Not being in the “high-risk” category doesn’t mean there’s no risk, either.

People who are vulnerable, or interact with vulnerable people should stay away from crowded places. It's pretty damn simple really.

An increase in cases is going to happen. It is inevitable. The country cannot support a lockdown of healthy individuals indefinitely.
I agree with you for the most part (except that 3 months is not indefinitely), but here’s the problem: people are stupid. It’s a guarantee that there will be many people there at high risk, and I’m willing to bet that the number of people wearing a mask will be able to be counted on one hand.

There are certainly a lot of things that are essential that must take place right now, I have a hard time believing a campaign rally is one of them.

It’s certainly not a fact in the rest of the world (I’m in the rest of the world). The only fact is that occasionally a source in the US (usually Trump or Fox) claims it was created in a lab in Wuhan. The claims seem to stem from the need to deflect accountability... which is the general view of the rest of the world.

Yeah I don’t really get the “blame China” gang other than as you said to deflect. Like if suddenly the whole world woke up tomorrow and agreed it was all China’s fault that everyone would come back from the dead? Talk about a waste of energy.

Yup, if they don't want to take the risk, they shouldn't play.

There is nothing in life that is "no risk".

To be fair I'd argue the biggest reason we don't have a SARS vaccine is because they stopped chasing it when containment measures were so effective that it suddenly disappeared.

I agree it's not safe to bank on a vaccine in this case and I'll always bang the drum that we need to focus on treatment. We certainly need to be doing more personal protection based on what's going on nationally now. And we'll need to do at least that until we find a great treatment, a vaccine, or it works its way around and out.

From the sounds of lots of medical professionals they're just getting better at treating it in a lot of small different ways and it's starting to sound a lot like the 1% theory I talked about a long time back it seems, where you just do so many little things marginally better that it makes a big difference. Better treatments, vitamins, sunlight, distance, masks, closing mega-events like sports, slowly opening smaller gatherings with control, etc. Have to assume that's life until further notice now and just do what's best for oneself and those around oneself.

last i checked this was basically scientifically proven to have come from selling and eating poached exotic animals casually in a market that's supposed to have rules so yes, i am going to blame china

the idea that it was created in a lab is utter nonsense but this absolutely is the chinese governments fault for failing to contain it to protect their egos and propaganda

I don't think that's what people are taking issue with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what Bandit and others are saying is that it's often an exercise in deflecting our own societies' and personal accountability to place blame on China. Absolutely hold them accountable for the origin as well as the giant misinformation and mishandling especially to save face, but now that many many others have duplicated their shitty response on some level, "thanks China" is usually just coming people who refuse to take any responsibility for anything that's happened in the sixth month since.

If someone starts a fire across town I'm damn sure going to want the arsonist held accountable but I'm gonna do a lot more in the time between the match and my house catching fire then fart in the wind and complain about the arsonist.

The administration was briefed on the dangerousness of the virus in late January. Yet, it refused to do anything and pretended like it didn’t exist for well over of month (directing companies via the DPA to manufacture test kits/ventilators/masks, being prepared to start social distancing sooner, etc.). That has nothing to do with China.

It’s obvious that we disagree, because this isn’t some gotcha, this is a bad take.

I am not playing gotcha with you, and it's not a bad take simply because you don't like it. It's a simple fact that players, coaches and staff that are at high-risk who should consider not participating in this year's playoffs. This is true, especially if they lack confidence in the ability of their colleagues to maintain the integrity of the "bubble".

Should the rest of the players, coaches, and staff who are not at high-risk lose their ability to make a living for their families, because there are a handful of people who should not participate?

hit a monthly high of deaths today in SD county too yesterday at 6 with 5 the day before, seems like they've stopped presenting the data on how old/underlying medical

i've seen ages/medical mentioned in singular articles but i can't find the info on the county website for the life of me

That's why don't bother with the LA county site either.

LA is what I should be presenting, but I am too lazy

IMHO it also allowed the Chinese Gov. to stock up on PPE before the world knew what happened since there was barely any competition for it and prices were fair. Then it can be sold to other countries at a higher price if anyone was being strategic about it. They delayed the info coming out during SARS 1 as well so information sharing has left much to be desired. This is not the 1st time this has happened. RE: Trump, I believe the Feds could have done a lot more to protect us. Nurses, MDs, Respiratory Therapists and staff should not be begging for PPE anywhere in the US. We're supposed to be a Superpower and we can't manage to get masks going but we can be involved in building a space station? WTF.

On a second note though, I personally carry some skepticism of the data/treatment recommendations coming out of Chinese Government for reasons that the effects of the virus can change with populations as it relates to increased levels of obesity, diabetes prevalence in the US. So one size doesn't necessarily fit all, just like one med doesn't work on everyone because of our biochemistry.

Please note the differentiation between the Chinese Government and its people though. I'm not replying to you specifically, but I just wanted to clarify due to racial tensions being so high in the US as it is and I believe the Gov in other countries are often different than the people they rule.
