Just stop with the Power nonsense. Same people eating their hat over Dahlin, Tage, Jack Quinn, and so on. Kid will be very good but he will need time to develop like the others.
This isn’t like the Jack Quinn. Everybody thinks Owen Power is going to be good, as do we, but some of us that have been watching him think that he isn’t likely going to be a franchise defenseman. That should be ok. Chain’s point is that a lot of people, MOST Sabres fans, are going to have outsized expectations relative to the player, and that it’s going to result in undue criticism of Power when he doesn’t live up to expectations that aren’t based in reality. We aren’t bagging on Power.

I don't think he's going to be a franchise defenseman like Dahlin was. But he can still be a very good and reliable player for us.

Yep. I'm bagging on Sabre fans.

My apologies I read it as crapping on Power. My biggest takeaway from watching him since the Olympics is that he has not been up ice attacking and his point totals have dropped. Now that might be the coaches telling him to play it safe with the one and done tournament coming up or he might have a nagging injury but the Power of the past few weeks isn’t the true Power. And like Dahlin and all young dmen entering the league it will be 2-4 years in the NHL before we see what the true pro Power will be. With his high hockey IQ and size and mobility he will get there but there will be hiccups along the way.

He hasn't looked dynamic since the beginning of December outside of that game at the U20's with the three goals. Tired, hurt, something...

There will be those fans who wonder why a 6'6" player is not all John Wayne tough and we've seen that talk already. He's got a ways to go before he's good defensively in puck battles. That first goal against last night would have brought Sabres Twitteratti out to drag him and talk of changing his position or trade him if that was Dahlin in a pro game. You don't think some of those same people aren't going to be undie-bunched when they actually sit down to watch Power play a level up after they've seen some random tweet about NHLe from a few months ago that spun wild fantasies about his abilities?

1. Michigan vs. 4. American International
2. Quinnipiac vs. 3. St. Cloud State

Albany, N.Y., Thursday/Saturday
1. Minnesota State vs. 4. Harvard
2. North Dakota vs. 3. Notre Dame

Worcester, Mass., Friday/Sunday
1. Western Michigan vs. 4. Northeastern
2. Minnesota vs. 3. Massachusetts

Loveland, Colo., Thursday/Saturday
1. Denver vs. 4. Massachusetts-Lowell
2. Minnesota Duluth vs. 3. Michigan Tech

Bracket is in! This is a good one, indeed. I'll go with Duluth, Michigan, UMass and Minny State in the Frozen Four. Denver looks ripe for an upset against Lowell. Minnesota and UMass is a 1st round matchup from hades in the bracket of doom.

Prediction time:

Michigan beats AIC
St. Cloud in OT over Quinnipiac like 1-0 or 2-1

State beats Harvard
ND beats ND. Wait. Notre Dame beats NoDak.

WMU avenges yesterday's loss and beats NEU
Minny over Mass though I could see that going the other way for some reason.

Denver enjoys relative home ice and beats Lowell
MDU sneaks by Tech.

I expect to be 80% wrong.

That's the beauty of the modern tournament: back when, there were 3 or 4 teams with a chance at a title. Now there are 6-7 teams with a legit shot.

I'm with you on Notre Dame over NoDak. I'm going with Quinnipiac over St. Cloud. BUT! I'm cool if, say, Northeastern pulls a Bemidji St./RIT and steamrolls to the FF and makes all of us look like fools:thumbu:

The beauty or terror of a single-elimination tournament bracket like this is if a goalie gets hot, it can tip a favorite out into the Zamboni shavings by the end of the night. Quinnipiac playing SCSt is funny to me because they remind me of the Motzko-era teams that were just waves of dudes, all playing the same way, constantly in the right position and supporting one another. Perets is a good goalie, but man... he has so much less work to do than say Portillo (or Dobes at OSU who is such a big part of them being able to play their run-and-gun style because he's going all Grant Fuhr behind them).

it would have been interesting to have northeastern face Michigan.

based on schedule…it’s northeastern, Michigan, and minnesota on Friday.

Niagara has two different men's club hockey teams. I think this is the lower of the two playing in their conference tournament last weekend.

Ethan is a freshman center who has been their leading scorer. And his twin brother Brady has been one of their best defensemen.

I am sharing this because they were HS hockey and lacrosse teammates of my senior and he was cracking up that Ethan finally pulled it off. Apparently this was his third try at it this season.

Meyer tried it in the Wolverine-Gopher game but the puck wasn't flat when he tried it. Cool to see creativity. Years of people hating on this has made the game more boring. Yes, I'm glaring at you Torts.

Ethan thought about it a few times last year during HS games.

It has been fun watching some of their Niagara games online this year. And when they played Brockport, I had to guess if the Brockport players that I knew the names were the kids that I had coached when they were younger.

I am getting old when the kids I used to coach have moved on from HS and are now playing in college.

I was feeling it the other night watching Jim Lorentz's grandson for Carolina playing in Toronto.

Then I had the thought that guys I'm watching now, I might wind up seeing current players' grandsons playing but I will be ancient.

McLaughlin and Ward were the two guys I've wanted to sign for months. Both off the table.

Ethen Frank from WMU is the best right shot center available as far as NCAA UDFA. And Easton Brodzinski from St Cloud is a right shot right wing and we don't have any of those in Rochester, he doesn't have any NHL upside but he is big and tough and has put up points throughout his career and we need prospects in Rochester. So yeah, these are my two choices for free agent signings, get it done.

De Jong offers things they don't have in Rochester in a right-shot winger. Same with Ford and maybe Ellis.

Personally, I'm hoping they look at Livingstone, Metsa or Blankenburg. Once Blankenburg was off Power's pair, his combativeness and ability to win pucks in dangerous areas around the net was easily a big loss when Owen was on the ice with Pehrson. Not that Blankenburg is the guy to pair with Power going forward, but he does offer things that they could use in a RHD with their RHD cupboard being kind of thin.

Man, the anticipation is making me buggy waiting for puck drop!

I got Michigan, Quinnipiac, Minny State, North Dakota, Western, UMass, Lowell and Duluth in the first round. I could see one of Western or Minny State getting upset though.

Nice bonus material for Sabres fans with 6 prospects in the tournament.

Yeah, it's pretty cool to have a solid group at the NCAA level that could have futures. Huglen's development this year, especially after coming back from Christmas break and Costantini's evolution at NoDak are both low-key, leave 'em simmer for later guys who could have nice pro futures beyond their high-end goalie tandem and the first round defensemen.
