Is it too much to ask for an OP MC-style anime that doesn't have a harem? I'd just like a show where there's a clearly OP MC who is just a very driven individual who works towards his big end goal, and then retires to a nice farm or something...basically MCU Thanos but him as the MC instead of the BBEG.

I just caught up with the tri-force of Rascal Doesn't Dream of Bunny Girl or whatever this show is called movies. The first movie is absolutely brilliant, but the next two are duds. The second in particular is just blokes walking around looking for high schools and the third at least has a story to it, but is very weak. I loved this show before these movies and I still love it, but very glad to hear they are going back to episode format for the next arc. I feel like I wasted my time with two of these movies. I get it that this show is slice-of-life with some sci-fi/psychological elements to it, but even the most slice-of-life animes still have a plot to uncover or solve, the last two movies were slice-of-life but with nothing in them. Disappointing.

I am now trying to catch up with Demon Slayer after I finished the Redlight gambling battle district arc.

IDK, I loved the movies. Though for me, I just love the characters so much that I could watch them do nothing for hours. The second one was the weakest for sure so there was the excitement of having these characters back after a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed the third movie though and it surely hit the feels.

In other news, the summer 2024 season is absolutely cooking. I have like 10 shows that I follow. After the boring (at least for me), isekai filled spring season we finally have some great comedies, fantasies and romances.

I will admit that Kaede is a major plot for the show and movies, but after she got normal, she was irrelevant to me and why the second movie felt like a waste of time. The problem I have with the third one is the entire puberty syndrome is so weak, like who cares that Sakuta and his Mother are on weird terms for...10 minutes or so until he fixes the issue? And honestly, the weird terms were not that significant for me to even cause puberty syndrome or whatever it's called in the show compared to the other issues they have already faced.

Yeah I get it. I know the puberty syndromes are the main point of the show, but I don't really care about them anymore. I'd be just happy to watch these characters in a slice of life.

Difficult to recommend going through the prerequisite 15 years of Monogatari, but Off & Monster is peak.

Spy x Family Code White has hit the streaming services. I loved it and I kinda feel sad that I didn't go see it in the theaters.

I am catching up with Demon Slayer. I finished the Blacksmith arc (or the sword one), and it was really stupid. I found myself forwarding a lot of scenes because of how useless this arc was.

Kaijuu No. 8 is getting a movie and special. E: The movie is a compilation, that is depressing.

The summer anime season is over and it was definitely a great one. Personally found a lot of shows to watch that I didn't have time to catch up on any of the older shows I was planning. Especially the wide range of characters we met this season was amazing.

Anyways, here are my ratings and reviews:

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines - 9,75
Anime of the season for me. This show really came out of nowhere and blew me out of the water right from the get-go. I've never seen this quality animation in a show like this, but then again, it's A-1. I feel like every character was very unique and had their time to shine and a lot of them already shot up in my all-time favourite list. The voice actors were all amazing, especially Hikaru Tono (Anna) and Momoka Terasawa (Komari). One of the funniest animes I've seen and definitely recommend this for everyone, even if rom-coms aren't normally your thing.

Oshi No Ko - 9,75
Just barely lost to Makeine for the anime of the season for me. Nevertheless another great season with amazing animation. The Tokyo Blade Arc was just stunning visually and it felt like I was watching the theatre show along with the crowd. The end of the season got really dark and I'm very excited where they go from here. This show really has everything. An interesting story, great characters, amazing animation, lots of creativity, etc.

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian - 9,50
This show had all the hype going into the season and it managed to cash in all of it. IVery funny show with great characters and great animation. I feel like Yuki Suou is going to be on many 'best girl' lists for quite some time.

Spy x Family Code: White - 9,25
I'll include this on the list as it was released on streaming services during the season. Not really much to say about this. It was the same old Spy x Family with all the characters we've grown to love. I thoroughly enjoyed it

My Deer Friend Nokotan - 8,50
What in the world was this...I have no idea, but I had a blast watching it. Slowed down a little towards the end of the season, but overall it was very hilarious.

Pseudo Harem - 8,25
A very cute show and very different from a normal rom-com as we really get a story after the confessions and high school. This anime was really just to show why Saori Hayami is the best voice actress out there and she absolutely nailed it. Didn't care for the MMC that much, but I grew to like him more in the end.

The Elusive Samurai - 8,25
What an interesting animation style from CloverWorks. Some of it looked really impressive and very unique. The anime started off really good, but to me it lost some steam towards the end. Still very enjoyable overall and I'm looking forward to more of the story.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword - 8,25
Another show that started off with a bang, but slowed down in the middle parts. The last few episodes were great again so I'll keep my eye on this as well. The animation was spectacular in the first few episodes, but I guess budget or something got in the way in the latter episodes as it wasn't as impressive.

Days With My Stepsister - 7,50
This was an anime where I got exactly what I expected. I understand the slow and subtle approach, but I got to say I ended up watching the last few episodes with 1.5x speed. The romance progression between our two main characters felt very forced and felt like the characters thought so too.

2.5 Dimensional Seduction - 7,25
Another one where I got exactly what was advertised. A budget version of My Dress-Up Darling. If I had to pick one anime this season that was a 2-cour season, this would've been at the bottom of my list, but here we are still getting episodes. (I decided to include it on the list anyway)

Spice & Wolf (2nd cour) - 6,75
This is my controversial rating for the season. I liked the first cour but holy hell the first arc of the second cour was one of the worst I've seen. For a show that really heavily relies on Holo, they did an arc where she's barely present. I was ready to drop the show, but I had one sick day with nothing to watch so I decided to catch up. I really don't like the Lawrence. I can't really put in the words what I dislike about him, but in the modern lingo the dude is just a huge L of a character. The latter arc in the cour was better, but I really didn't pay too much attention to it. Might not watch the second season, but we'll see when that comes out.

Loved the show as well! A bit too much fan service at times, but disregarding that, I am hyped about where they take it in season II!

True, but I knew that going in so it didn't bother me too much. Apparently there's a lot more in the manga as well. If you liked it, I highly recommend checking out Makeine.

Been a while since I've felt so all-in on an anime only two episodes in. I can't quite explain it, but vibing on elements of some of my favorite media of all-time (Soul Eater, Gurren Lagann, Haruhi, Scott Pilgrim) has me feeling some type of way. If the show can maintain this level of quality, I have very little doubt it'll reach GOATed status in my book sooner than later.

Seems like a quick turn around for another 2-cour season but I guess it's not the most extravagantly animated show out there.
