He signed a LEGITIMATE 1D in his time here and then followed it up a few years later by finding a LEGITIMATE 1C for peanuts.

Yeah I don’t think ti’s end all be all. That said, you can build a pretty good hockey team just by managing the cap extremely well. Look at Vegas. If I were a GM, my number one focus in every move would be to make sure I’m getting a player at or under market value against the cap.

When Konecny's inevitably gets his raise, this strategy won't work as well. It's fun to be able to justify it in your head for a couple years, but eventually the issue is going to come to pass.

Konecny is locked in for another 5 years after this one. Hayes would expire a year later.
