I agree, but would add Rolston to that list. Just missed winning this one.

if latvia has any chance of making the quarters, they have to beat kazahkstan and then hope russia loses all of their games, except the kazahkstann one (not likely) or that the states loses the rest of their games (again, except kazahkstan) and doesnt score as much as latvia does (again, unlikely)..... either that or they need to somehow steal another point against sweden, slovakia or russia, but i cannot see that happening at all .... so while its possible, its not very likely at all..... a win against the states would have put them in a much better position

I'm fine with Blake being on the team, but use him in defensive situations, he's a guy that can score shorthanded and on the transition. However I was SHOCKED that he was out there for the last shift. Has Laviolette gone insane? Does he really miss coaching on the Isle that much? I don't think the Islanders would have him out there for the last shift let alone Team USA.

Um... He coaches the Canes hasnt coached us in a while

what the hell does that have to coaching this horrid USA team?

Leopold's first goal of the season... bet you Darryl Sutter's wondering where that was for the last 50 odd games.

Putrid for sure.....

they both stank up the ice

The americans are quite lucky. If they had lost this, I'd say they would been out of the tournament with khazakstan, but the tie probably means latvia and khz goes out since there is almost no chance that latvia will beat the US on goal difference.

so in the end, the tie for the americans wasn't so bad.

Hats off to the Latvians. They always do their best and then some. Great to see Irbe once again too.

I'm quite sure US will get better progressivly during this tournament but I do think that a couple of their players are a bit immobile and heavy for this kind of hockey. Especially compared to teams like Russia, Slovakia and the Czechs.

You are so wrong. We can tie and i feel we can tie Russia. Game against them is always a special game for all latvians, its like goin on battlefield and fight ofr your country. Thats why we havent lost to Russia in international games for long time (last 2 games we playd them, we won!!!). I heard a 8-0 predictions for this game aswell, wonder where are they now?

i dont see how the usa can be lucky when they outplayed latvia and got a tie?

i was actually just going to go see how populous your country was.... thx for the info.... congrats on a great game, nice to see a smaller country take on one of the "big 7 of hockey".... grats again!

Ummm because Laviolette coached the Islanders, Blake played for the Islanders and Laviolette played him in the wrong situations instead of players who were actually making things happen out there?

I figured he missed coaching Blake and decided to make up for lost time. BTW it hasn't been that long since Laviolette coached the Islanders.

hey i hope i *am* wrong... im pulling for you guys.... in fact i always cheer for the "lower" teams like germany, swiss, latvia, belarus etc etc ..... its boring always seeing the same 7 teams advance..... i wish hockey was more like soccer, with about 10-15 countries with really good programs (as long as canada is still always near the top, lol)

reports on this board sounded like the US was outplayed.

Not even close. With the exception of a 5 minute stretch in the 2nd, this one was all US.

Well most people here have decided that this is a poor team before the Olympics started and like to pat themselves on the back whenever something goes wrong for being so smart.

ok overreaction from HFboard then. That never happens :sarcasm:

I agree, sorry I meant to say that he shouldn't be out there in the third on the 4-on-4 when we needed a goal, I probably didn't make that clear enough.

Tkachuk is too slow for Gionta and Gomez. I wouldn't mind having Cole on their wing.
I'd love to see that line.

Talking about the Gomez line, McGuire was interviewing him after the game and asked him about the difference between playing Elias and Tkachuk as his other winger. LOL, ummm, what isn't different between those two?
