I'd say the play was 60-40 Latvia, they scored two quick goals, one on the PP.

Team USA clearly has the momentum (13 scoring chances in this period!!), but they still need one more goal. This door-not-closing is giving both teams a rest, but I imagine the US squad wants that puck dropped ASAP so they can go get that golden goal.

And the Latvian team ties the American team 3-3.

Americans played very well in first and third periods, but they couldn't get that 2nd goal in the third (thanks to Irbe and the Latvian D). The Latvian-dominated second period made all this possible-that was CRUCIAL. That's why this game is a tie and not an American win. The Latvians were pumped up for this game and came to play. Good job by Latvia. Team USA didn't suck it up, only for that one period.

Which I don't like because I want to see Team USA triumphant. Alas, it was not to be. TOMORROW brings the USA against, Kazakhstan I think?
