Doesn't matter who's in net if the US is only going to score 1 goal a game. They need to rethink the PP if they can't manage a goal on two long 5 on 3s.

My opinion of Peter Laviolette drops a little every game the US plays...just a bad game, we had plenty of chances with 5 on 3s, but they can't score to save their lives...this is terrible.

The way I see it, screw up now when it probably doesnt matter, it'll take nothing short of a miracle at this point for the US not to get out of this initial round of play...sooner or later this team will find a way to score....hopefully its once out of this round

Good win Sweden!

Strong games by

- Henrik Lundqvist
- Nicklas Lidström
- Mattias Öhlund
- Samuel PÃ¥hlsson

I though Kenny Johnsson did well as well. As an Islanders fan all i can say is you don't really notice him when he is there but you sure as hell notice when he isn't.

I'll add Kenny Jönsson to that list to make it five. :)
Add Zetterberg on the 5on3 kills as well. Wish he had better 5on5 linemates. He's forced to do too much alone.

The good news is the defense and goaltending are playing awesome. I think DiPietro is the man for the rest of the tournament.

The bad news is the offensive players are MIA. I think maybe they should switch Cole and Tkachuk, put Cole with Gionta and Gomez.
I was thinking Rolston but that would work for me too.

It's ridiculous.

::sigh:: another tough loss.

I kept hearing "save by Lunqvist" and getting excited (I'm a Ranger fan) and then I would realize that that wasn't what I wanted to happen.

Congratulations to Sweden for the win and for being the only team that I've seen so far that isn't wearing those stupid Nike uniforms.

well if canada can turn things around and beat finland and the czechs we can get the US in the quarters.... good stuff..... now the difficult part..... beating the finns and the czechs ... uggg

I agree. The strength of Team USA in Salt Lake was their work in front of the net and the ability to score ugly goals. LeClair is done...that's why he's not over there, Guerin is washed up and Tkachuk lost his touch. They need guys like Cole and Parrish to chip in. The team skates well and plays solid defense but it doesn't matter when you can't score goals.

I kind of agree, especially on the 5 on 3 PP's. Two lefthanded shots on the point is pretty stupid, especially when you have a RH shot like Rafalski sitting on the bench.

I think Rafalski and Schneider firing one-timers, with Modano replacing Gomez on the half wall would work much better if that situation comes up again.

I think since the Russian game is meaningless for Team USA, they should experiment with some new lines, maybe see if something clicks.

Group B

1. Slovakia 8 pts, +7
2. Russia 6 pts, +11
3. Sweden 6 pts, +8
4. USA 3 pts, +1
-------------------
5. Latvia 1 pt, -15
6. Kazakhstan 0 pts, -12

The US needs to shake things up in a big way. This team is playing really hard and it's a pretty good team, but they just can't put the puck in the net. I'd like to see more of Drury and more of Knuble. Take Tkachuk off that Gomez line, they've been terrible, especially on the PP. I'm not really sure what I want the lines to look like, but I would like to see a completely different #1 PP unit. The US is locked into that 4 spot for the most part, so they can afford to try things against Russia. Laviolette needs to make huge changes.

Yeah, my first reaction was pissed off. :joker: I thought it was going to be hard to root against him, but I was getting realllllly ticked off they weren't scoring and I was definitely silently cursing him lol.

So who is the U.S. playing in the quarterfinals given their going to be 4th? I assume its likely Slovakia?

So we are pretty much in the QFs despite our record? Why?

BTW, who coached the US team in Salt Lake in 2002?

The late Herb Brooks was our coach in 02

We're in 4th place at 3 points. Latvia is 5th and has one point. Both have one game left, the best they can do is tie us, then it goes to goal differential. US is +2, Latvia is -15. We'd have to lose by and have Latvia win by a combined 18 goals to lose out.

I don't agree with a lot of Laviolette's decisions regarding personel in this tournament either, but Rafalski has just looked plain lost. I'm not sure if he's injured or what, but he's falling all over the ice and playing pretty poor all around, IMO. He doesn't belong on the PP with the way he's skating right now.

Does he have an injury in the lower body that we should know about?
