I thought Henrik Lundqvist was dominant on the world circuit... I wouldn't pull him out after this, I would give him another chance to live up to his reputation.

lol I knew this was coming from a sabres fan. He had no chance of the goals today. Our backup goalies shouldn't see another minute in the tournament even if lundqvist let in 10 goals in next game. That's how bad our backups are.

With Bäckman, Ronnie Sundin, Kenny Jönsson in the defence we won't survive the quarterfinals...Norström was a bad blow and the fact that they called in Ronnie Sundin who is about as slow as Chelios (but without talent) we're screwed.

Lidström, Tjärnqvist and Öhlund have been good but otherwise we just suck.

Is the back up Tellquist? He's not THAT bad.

I'm just kidding. It is just getting a little tiring hearing how great AO is and how bad Illya is. I haven't seen AO do anything more then any other of the great Russian players. What did AO do today that some think he was Russia's best player? Is he a great player? Yes. Russia's best players today. Kovalev and Nabokov.

Fine, but I'm not one of those. I have not said that Ovca was the best and I'm not going into those debates. Honestly I rarely get excited about the players, especially flashy scorers. I can be biased when I praise Lidstroem or A.Markov or Volchenkov but as much as I admire Ovechkin's and Crosby's of this world I don't worship them. To me Ovechkin has the perfect balance of individual skills and cockynes and selfishnes of a great scorer and a team sense of a great winner. Malkin looks like a Larionov, Mikhailov like leader with his poise. Kovalchuk still seems like a kid mentally to me. That's why I think higher of those too. I'm probably a little bit anti-Kovy biased but that's how i feel.

Hats off to the Russians, well deserved win. Can't say much of the swedish team. It looks about the same as I expected.

Lundqvist was fine.

Have you seen the shots, man?
After all, we have got some of the finest snipers in the world on the tam.

He'll recover.
Agree. I have seen only 3 goals (Thanks, MSNBC :madfire: ), and on all 3 goals he did everything that is humanely possible.

Laser from Kovalev while being screened by Dats - no chance
Ovechkin's put back rebound - I was surprised he stopped the original 3 on 1 (it's pretty scary for any goaltender - imagine Yashin, Afinogenov and Big O coming at you), and Pahlsson did not clear the rebound
Sushinsky goal - tic tac toe - again, Malkin laid the puck so perfectly on Sushinsky's blade (I bet if it was slow motion, you would've seen how Malkin would undress, put on a French maid suit, take a puck gently in his hands, say "s'il vous plait, monsieur" and feather it down on Sushinsky's blade), that Henke had no chance.

That is it. Send him home. No reason to keep Henrik around if the team refuses to play defense. What a debacle. No reason to hurt the Rangers because the Swedes are clueless in their own zone, take bad penalties and give away more pucks than Santa Claus.

:biglaugh:

Great game by Russia today, just looked a lot faster than the Swedes, hopefull this is the team we see from now on, first games for the olympics you can never really tell how a team is because of short notice, jet-lag, etc. Looks like the groove may have been found.

Heaven forbid somebody be excited out there.

I have no problem with exicitement and enthusiasim, but it is a bit much. This was not the gold medal game or overtime.

Kovy may act like a kid partially because he still is very young:) When AO scores and jumps around like a maniac, that's not acting like a kid? Make no mistake, AO, Malkin, etc will all be great players. Kovulchuck has been a great player for several years now.
