Well, Bergfors is supposed to be pretty good. He had a good game tonight, but Salmonsson, Nilsson, and Soderberg were the best for Sweden tonight IMO. (I don't know the answer to your question though, maybe someone from Sweden will know)

Riddarn, I think you asked about Salmonsson being doubleshifted... He was, at least for a little bit. They did break up the line too, I think. It's hard to tell because the announcers only say the names of the Swedish players like once every five minutes. That's the only thing I didn't like about the otherwise good game. Up until the game got out of hand, it was very competitive and entertaining.

I was rooting for Sweden because of Salmonsson, but I'm happy USA won because we get to see another game, and I get to see Malkin again.

I was impressed with Salmonsson tonight. He was involving himself in the play on pretty much every shift and didn't shy away from physical play and showed good strength on the puck for being pretty tall and thin still.

Drew Stafford and Dan Fritsche well also play extremely well.

Schremp had hands of gold on that 8th goal. I'm sure the Swedes had the last few seconds set in cruise control, but none the less, he pulled some major league tricks out his arse there and was able to get a decent shot on net with limited room. This kid is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered... the doctor ofcoarse being Kevin Lowe and the Edmonton Oilers organization. Slowly but surely, he is starting to earn the respect he deserves. Im a Canadian fan through and through, but if anyone comes up and bites us in the rear-end, I hope its Robbie.

Outside of a few plays in the 1st, Soderberg wasnt really that noticeable, IMO. Eriksson and Salmonsson were the 2 best Swedish players on the ice.

Kessel was a joy to watch....BUT when will the D learn, play the BODY, you a$$e$...

Hind sight certainly is 20\20, but I am sure tons of Swedes were concerned when their coach opted against using HEINO-LINDBERG in net...

Though extremely unpredictable, the Americans are most certainly an offensive powerhouse, and considering the way Lindberg played against Canada (the way he held his fort early on against Canada is testament to that) the Swedes would have had a better chance of weathering the storm with him in net...

Nilsson may have put on a stick handling clinic during this game, but he certainly looks like no game breaker to me, he can create plays but is not a finisher by any means; I am with McGuire, when you have a chance to draft Parise, WHY GOD WHY would you opt for Nilsson....

I guess Dallas Stars fans must be gleaming with joy, their man Loui Eriksonn was absolutely phenomenal, amazing compusure with the puck and terrific vision...

Russia certainly better wake up and play sound defense as a team, or else this American team will walk all over them...

Although Eriksson had a good game, I disagree. Salmonsson was the guy who was creating a lot on the line, setting up both goals.

You're right, he was. He was always around the net trying to stuff it in. He was strong in the corners. Exceptional at everything. Nilsson showed signs of brilliance, but wasn't consistant the entire game.

I read all posts and your suspicion is right. Montoya gets ripped to shreds on these boards for the most part, but when he stands tall like he did tonight, he gets no love. The viscious cycle of letting in a softie and your team gets down, versus when the D leaves the goalie hanging to the wolves and he makes a huge stop, thus lifting the bench, is the life of a goaltender at any level. Thankfully, the latter was the case tonight.

Kessel is a joy to watch offensively. That Nilsson (#9) for Sweden is no slouch himself. Very impressive stick work. These guys are all under 20 and are challenged with both heart and emotional levelness. These traits come with experience. It is joyful to watch their potential NHL beginings. It is my first WJC experience and I'm loving the hockey and the players learning as they go in a very intense format. Wow! The Semis are next!

Montoya was alot more composed than he's been throughout this entire tournament. He still flopped a bit more than I would like but I'll gladly take this version over the Andre "Redlight" Racicot impersonation we've been seeing. I thought the overall team defense was better tonight as well, and even my favorite whipping boy Jeff Likens made a few nice defensive plays. At the very least, the match-up against Russia should be very even.

Its not our fault we havent played anyone who can compete with us.

Yes, the Canadian group was weak. We know that now that teams have started crossing over. The Finns were nowhere close to the quality of the Czechs, and the Swedes were nowhere close to the US. Not to mention Germany being whitewashed by the Swiss.

The 2nd best team in the group was *fifth* overall at best, and that's just because of the tournament format. Hell, give the Swiss and Belarus a shot at Finland and Sweden, they'd probably beat them too.

The other teams in the group can't compete with *anybody*.

I echo these sentiments. Not a Likens fan but he was better. Montoya was steady and sometimes that is all you need- avoid the stinker.

I'm just glad he didn't appear to be fighting the puck. He made the saves he had to, and had a few nice moments as well. The defensive improvement in front of him helped as well.
