a point is a point is a point, period ... each had 2 points in that game ... Suter isn't counted on to collect points ... they equalized each other in my mind

Whatever you say about Ovechkin, Foppa always has something to come back with. Trust me, I know.

Ovechkin is the absolute greatest ever, just leave it at that.

This is the sort of game this team needed to have. The offense got their cylinders firing again, the defense looked BETTER than it had(though not perfect) and most of all, Montoya made some key saves, and played his first game without a soft goal. The team should finally have its confidence back, and can hopefully roll against Russia with it.

And..once again...

 KESSEL

perfect way to sum up the american effort tonite and the game as a whole. the game against russia should be even better than the first one

Insight of the night by the TSN commentators.

McGuire: "How can Finland, with a population smaller than Sweden produce so many elite goaltenders and Sweden can't produce anything close?"

Miller, serious voice: "Well, I don't think Sweden has a choice. Time to invade Finland."

Unfortunatly, Finland can put out almost a 10th of their population, that's more than 400.000 troups within a few months if they need to. Sweden can not muster more than 30.000 and we still have TWICE the military budget Finland does.

Also it should be said, that while Sweden has twice the size of the population of Finland, they are about equal in the number of ice hockey players. Finland doesn't have the same domestic competition from Soccer, Handball and Tennis that Sweden has.

No, he's not the greatest ever, but he is very good and better than some--including Crosby and Kessel.

The good:

Salmonsson-Nilsson-Eriksson line created chances all night long(once they were put together)...especially Salmonsson and Eriksson.

Kessel is good....Montoya had a solid game, couldnt really be blamed on either goal.

The bad:

Swedish defense just fell apart in the 3rd period.

Brian Lee showed why he plays defense and not forward ;)

oh boy, it's easy to say someone's better when he didn't start the game.

it was the right choice to start rautio, he came off a shutout while heino-lindberg was awful in this tournament. now rautio had a bad game, so we know that it doesn't matter who's in goal, sweden has a goalie problem. but that's not really new.

Well, last I checked, Heino-Lindberg had one shutout too, so how was Rautio's tournament so much better?

ehm riddarn...is it possible that you have thought about invading finland at least once? otherwise you wouldn't know these facts that fast. :lol

Can we not ruin a great game thread with more of this?

Congrats all American fans. The four best teams in this tournament (and on paper) made it to the semifinals. I just wish the games would have been broadcasted here.

Oh, well.. 5 in the morning here in Sweden.. time to go and zzzzzz

The Soviet Union tried that already in 1939...and got smoked in the Winter War. So, maybe that's not such a good idea ;)

US offense sure was on fire tonight, and Montoya proved himself at last. Lots of confidence there for the team.

And Sweden will meet Finland in the consolation game, always a good matchup.

Kessel has more heart then people know. He'll shine tonight and well be excellent!

Drew Stafford and Dan Fritsche well also play extremely well.

America well win tonight.

Ericksson and Salmonsson well make it close though.

Good prediction! :yo:

rautio just had one game, so you can't say he was better, but he came off a strong game. that's a fact. and heino-lindberg's shutout was against germany. c'mon...they don't even shoot the puck. besides finland's rask every goalie had a SO against them.

Sweden is always and forever neutral. They can't invade anybody. ;

Hehe, you might want to fresh up your european history. Yes, Sweden has been "neutral" (meaning, secretly helping whichever side they think has a shot at winning) the last 200 years, but the country actually has a pretty bloody war-filled history.
