Hello, fellas! Glad to be here...speaking about class....
To SOME russian speaking fans over here:
Ребята, надеюсь во Вторник не будет никаких выссказываний типа: "Пидары...е..ть, б...ь," и тому подобное. В противном случае я я буду вынуждена обратиться к модератору или админу за принятием соответствующих мер..
2 all: sorry about this, guys...just a friendly reminder to our russian friends here for Tuesday... See ya'll in the final

I've never seen coaches and players turning around to the crowd making jesters and spitting on the glass. Even the ESPN announcers said it was classless.

Not sure where you have been then....just off the top of my head I think of Domi in the box shooting water on the guy who ended up in the box with him...

as for ESPN...total bias on their part...lets see, they only show US games and even tonight, early in the game, they said the hope Russia doesnt win gold this year

I only hope, if Canada wins, they don't do similar things. My initial thoughts are that they won't behave as such.
You can bet your ass that Sutter would never, ever let what was happening on the Russian bench happen on the Canadian bench.

As Danny Markov would say, "[They] need a whole lot of shut-up." :teach: :toothless

I'm not too sure if using a Domi reference is a good defense of the Russians' actions.

Alan Eagleson in 1972 also comes to mind, with his jesters towards the Soviet crowd (however no spitting was involved). In fact, there were several situations in that series that could be deemed classless. To say that things like this never happened in hockey is quite narrow minded.

I find it ironic that some people who find Malkin and Ovechkin classless also want them injured against Canada. There are numerous posts in this thread that suggest this exact thing. The classy thing to do would be to play the game cleanly and let the best man win. We can hope for a Canada victory, but hoping for an injury to either Russian player is equally as classless as their actions tonight.

Please, don't forget, that a case wih Domi and Filly's fan took place in professional hockey, in a play-offs, where anything can happen...espeacially if Domi is involved, if you get my drift.. :p:

ESPN is no big fan of hockey so us U.S. fans are lucky we got this many games. Why is that a problem though? And I HIGHLY doubt the guys doing the game said what you said they did. Give me a break.

I don't have any doubt about that.. I still remember when the Belarussian delegation askd him about his belarussian roots, he refused to answer.. class, one again!
The word on the street. Well that is something to go on. Chantal Machabee; I hang on her every word.

I was JUST going to say that.

You'd think they were a bunch of child molesters the way people are acting. Get over it.

I don't think anyone is actually wishing injury on those guys, that's sick. I want them to pay for their antics tonight, not taken off the ice in a stretcher.

I had no problem with Shirokov's razzing of the crowd; I don't take that stuff too seriously and it's not personal. However, skating by another team's bench while making gestures and standing up next to the glass at the end of the bench making gestures to the other team are completely classless and have no place in the game. There's a fine line and Russia stepped across it numerous times tonight.

Ohhhhhhhhh yes im so proud !

7-2, 43-24 shots what a domination !

ROSSIJAAAAAAAA BPERÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖ D !

Ovechkin + Malkin truly the best wow !!!! What a players !

In all my life I've never seen such a classless act, even the coaches. Ovechkin and Malkin are both bums. Like I said, I can't wait for Weber and Phaneuf to destroy them.

Oh I totally agree. I'd give my right arm to be there to see it.

The Americans also showed little class bringing their sticks and fists up at the end. They had nothing to talk about, they got badly outplayed.

So they're supposed to just skate off like nothing happened after the crap that team pulled and not defend themselves? The Russians went way more than a little over the edge and everyone if having a problem with the US players defending themselves against the taunting not only to the players but their fans. I wouldn't care that my team lost since I honestly wasn't expecting them to win anyway, but show some class for Christ sake. I hope that bs act comes back to bite them real hard because there is no need to go to that extent.

Slick Nick said:

It's ok, don't cry.

I don't know about anyone else but I'd rather root for a team that lost like my own than a team that doesn't know how to act with an ounce of class. In every sport you should show come class and dignity, I guess it's obvious they don't teach that in Russia. Do any Russians in here have any class? Anyone? I'm just appalled at this whole thing, from the fans in here to the players. The way you guys are acting is just as bad as your team. :shakehead

I didn't know the coaches pulled this crap too until I read it on another board. Now, they're supposed to be ADULTS and they act like that?

SmokeyClause said:
No, it would be an absolute disgrace. Now, I'm sure there are some homers on these boards who will turn a blind eye to anything their team does, but if Suter or Fritsche showed that level of class, I would hang my head in shame.

I agree. I would be mortified if my team did that and I'd be ripping them like I'm ripping the Russians for their display. I see no need to go that far, I really don't. From the coaches to the players, that was beyond necessary.

AgentNaslund said:
Its hard not to cheer against Russia.

No, it's not. I mean, I never really saw a display like the one they put on tonight from them, I never had a problem with any of the Russian teams, I like a lot of Russian players, but I will never root for those aholes again. :shakehead

I would just hope that they (Malkin and Ovechkin) grow up rather than get hurt. Quite honestly, they HAVE to know what they're getting themselves into acting like that. The phrase "writing checks your ass can't cash" comes to mind.

I don't condone headhunting or idiotic play like that at all, but I can't say that they didn't bring it upon themselves. Of course the guy that does the deed is going to be every bit as classless as they are.

What I find more disturbing is the number of people that are defending these numbnuts. I don't care who's team they're on. Hockey is one of the last sports where sportsmanship and respect are still in "the code". I'd really like to see hockey end up like the NBA or the NHL :speechles

I'd be ashamed if my team played like that. I mean this is your CAPTAIN for goodness sake. How are you supposed to respect a guy that acts like that?! If I were the coach these guys wouldn't play another game for me until they get their act together.

Ovechkin & Malkin are my new candidates for the players most likely to get Phaneufed in the finals.

...and, for the first time in history....Americans will be whole heartedly cheering for Team Canada to win gold. :handclap:

Haha. Hey I wouldn't be too proud if I were you. "What a players!" Hmmm, see that doesn't work. Yea maybe learn how to speak English.

I for one am over it. The US lost. Facts are they were outplayed and mostly undisciplined. They should have stopped the cheap stuff and taking the penalties after the 2-0 lead. They all know that, but continued on. They played right into the Russians hands letting them get under their skin. :dunce:

There was no excuse for O'Sullivan slashing that guy with 10 left in the third. Even if you believe it was an accident, it was careless. That penalty killed any hope of a comeback. The only "good" penalty taken was Borer pulling that guy down who would have had a break away.

Any cocky gestures, taunting etc by either team are meaningless. They had nothing to do with the score or the outcome by then. They may be remembered and cashed in at a later date. Why debate the garbage stuff any further? :deadhorse

and you wouldn't find a thing with your dictionary, granted you even succeed converting translit (latin) into cyrillic ; there are tons of mispellings in here :)

What do "ato", "pridet", "Laschari" and "pidarasti" mean? I have an English-Russian, Russian-English dictionary but I didn't find those...

Maybe you should learn how not to be a jackass.

Ripping on someone for adding an 'a' when they shouldn't have...honestly. I've seen English speaking posters obliterate the language 100 times worse than that. :shakehead

Clearly, you are a person with a CLUE. Clearly, the people defending the antics of that team are not people with a clue.

If the states did the same thing, it wouldn't bother any of you. Anyone remembering the Americans trashing the hotel in the olympics? Is that class?

Everyone in this thread is so classy. Making fun of the russians because they don't speak perfect english is so low. People hoping players get injured is pretty disgusting as well. People from all countries showboat and do classless things, so singling out Russia is very far from the truth. American athletes are probably the cockiest and least classy in the world(NFL, NBA players?? '98 Olympics??), so demonizing russians over this incident is not cool. This game the Russians were showboating no doubt, but you don't really know whether the US players were heckling or harassing them or what. If that's the case I would showboat as well.

Based on what I saw tonight, the Russian offense was just too much for the US to handle, and the Russian defense was barely tested at all. As cocky as the Russians are, boy are they fun to watch. This was the last bit of hockey I'll probably see in a while, so this tournament was good while it lasted. Everyone needs to calm down. They celebrated a lot, but it's not like they hurt anyone or killed a child like so many people are acting.
