None of them beat Sweden in regular time. 2 of 2 very close OT decided games = coin flip in my book.
You couldn't win a game even after having more than half of a game in PP and leading by 3-0. That's not a coin toss by any means. You are acting like a sore loser, expected. Instead of respecting the winners and the game.

You are ignorant . The games Swe -Roc and Swe -Finöand were indeed COINFLIPS

You don't simply lose your 3-0 lead with a ''coinflip''.

3 on 3 is huge joke. Make it 4 on 4 for crying out loud. the NHL did 3 on 3, because of declining attendance, so they wanted to add some excitement to the game.

Both these teams I believe are better than Slovakia. Slovakia defense doesn't really hold up, and will probably rely on the goalie again.

Stop whining. Everyone knows the rules and you play with the rules if you can not win on regulation.

Incredibly hard-fought game! You cannot say the better team won, maybe that the luckier team won. All respect to Sweden - there were several times in the 3rd period, overtime and the shootout that I thought Sweden had it won! Just a few bad breaks. For Russia, it wasn't pretty, but their "grinder" tactics kept them alive until the 2nd round of the shootout. Seems unlikely that the GMG could be as much of a drama as this one was!

This is definitely your A- team what are you talking about
Not even close. The 5-6 best Swedish scorers in the KHL were left out, same in the SHL. Our coach wanted to play like Finland instead and grind boards for 60+ minutes. Unfortunately it almost worked.

Absolute horseshit. 3 on 3 isn't hockey and everyone knows it. Why IIHF adapted this silly thing from the NHL is beyond me. Imagine the gold medal game being decided on 3 on 3 hockey.

?? Noone is having an "A-team" . Everyone knows Garpenlöv picked a bunch of grinders. It almost paid of. I think Garpenlöv did the right thing. He was sort of a grinder himself when he played and it takes one to know one

Omg, again this Team G, Team X crap. It is just genuinely getting little tiresome argument. News flash: NHL is not participating in the tournament. Get over it. Therefore every participating team had equal rights to form their teams.
Yeah but we didn’t even send our best in Europe, because who cares about commie olympics. Only Russia and Finland cared enough to send the best players they had available. I don’t understand why they take the olympics so seriously. Winning this means nothing really. Rather win junior world cup to be honest. Barely anyone here is watching or care about olympic hockey.

Now that you say it, it sure does sound like my statement is based on nothing but my eagerness to stir up shit on a hockey forum ;)

Yeah, unfortunately it worked for us. Now no matter what the final's result is they will say it's a great victory for Russian hockey...

There you have it guys. Sportsmanship. Either they are the best, or they create every explanation there is to why they didn't win gold. Am I surprised? No, not at all.

For once I agree with AB13. Of course it is a coin flip if we are talking about 1 goal game with equivalent shots-on-goal. But what else is new, it's always been like that on international hockey.

I was hoping for Sweden-Finland final (a chance for minor chance for Finland to compensate for 2006 Torino loss :) ), but this time was not meant to be. I think team Sweden has had an excellent tournament so nothing to feel bad about...

Such bullshit. People care just as much as any olympics. Just like ’94.

No it wasn't. Both Finland and Russia beat Sweden. Even if Sweden had 35 minuts of PP and only scored with a man advantage. So no, you are completely wrong.

Come on dude, you are just being cocky now.. of course the games were as tight as they could be (both Swe-Fin Swe-Rus), go take a look at the shot totals and it will tell you fairly accurate picture.

Hey, Sweden had 35 minutes of PP. More than half of the game, like come on here. They had a 3-0 lead. If we are going to be brutally honest here? It's not a coin toss at all. If anything, it's a complete disaster to lose such a game.

Regarding your comment being cocky? You are wrong. I´m humble and I don't think Finland has been that good in this tournament, but the one doesn't exclude the other? Finland were still better than Sweden. If you want to analyze even more? Do you believe Sweden would've been able to turn things around against Jalonens Finland as the finns managed to do? My opinion is no, without hesitating. And why then? Because they've been really good defensively 5v5.

Finland was taken a gold in 2021 by this silly rule.

Not that sad my Sweden lost. I just hate shootouts in important games like this and always have. 4vs4 overtime until someone surrender. No 3vs3 crap.
I hope Finland get its first Gold. In regular time.
