Just seen the hit, really pathetic form Ruutu. Jagr was totally defenseless.

Glad to see that Jagr walked to the locker room

It was a clean hit. Maybe he should have not hit Jagr who was in a vulnerable position wearing a useless helmet. But he made the choice to carry on with the hit and you can hate him all you want but he should not be suspended for a clean hit. :teach:

That's his style, and I like it. He reminds me a lot of Kipper.

I'm sure if Lehtonen had made 37 saves out if 39 shots you would be praising him all the time. He played better than "good".

I have absolutely no bias toward Lehtonen. I am not a jokerit fan, or a Lehtonen fan any more than every other finn is.

Lehtonen might have stopped the second goal because he is so big (it went over nittys shoulder) and both Lehtonen and Kipper would have stopped the first one...BUT...they might have let in some that nitty saved.

everyone's already on the Ruutuu hate bandwagon :madfire:

except the Finns ...

Alot of finns hate Ruutu's game, infact I'd say the majority do. Back when Jarkko Ruutu played for HIFK here in Helsinki he was widely regarded as one of the dirtiest players around. Just about nothing has changed from those years.

When he decides to play, he can be quite useful in drawing penalties for the opponent by agitating them, and he's not that bad defensively either. At other times though it seems that he lacks any and all judgement and that's when things like this hit happens.

It was a good game. I thought the Finns played very well. Canada got a shocker today and if they don't bring their best I wouldn't be surprized if Finland beats them. If Jagr is gone for the tournament it would be a huge blow to the Czechs.

I still think the hit was clean. That being said, Ruutu did take advantage of Jagr because Jagr was in a vulnerable position. If I was Ruutu I would have done the samething.

It was a clean shoulder hit but Jagr's head was in a vulnerable position since he was bent over. But it was a charge.

The key to this game was the soft Czech defencman. The Finnish forwards were hardly touched. I don't even know if the Czech's had an excuse me hit.

he put his head right into the boards. he could have just as easily hammered him with a shoulder to shoulder or shoulder to body hit, but he went straight for the head.

Jarkko Ruutu is one of those guys people love to hate but he's far from dumb on ice. Quite the opposite. I wonder if he starts coaching after his reign of terror is over.

Actually...in the IIHF hits to the head are disallowed, so I guess in Olympic hockey, that's a dirty hit.

Interesting to note that it's perfectly legitimate in the NHL. It definitely wasn't boarding (where on Earth did this idiot notion come from?) and I don't think Ruutu took that much of a run-up.

Yeah he was such an annoyance against my fav team Lukko last year. He was diving, cheapshotting and pretty much everything he could do against us. I have no love for the player, but the fact remains the hit THIS TIME was not dirty. People are judging this on the basis "Jagr is a superstar and Ruutu is a cheapshot bum". What matters is what happened, and there was nothing bad. One can argue about charging, but in every other way the hit was perfectly clean.

Funny thing was....when Ruutu went out, Nieminen went in as the second superpest and got the next penalty for Czechs..and Finland scored. We have two "rats" in the team.

It means that if you actually aim for the head, it's bad. Ruutu hit Jagr's shoulder (shoulder to shoulder, perfectly legal), Jagrs head hit the board and that is his own problem. With a normal helmet he would not have hurt

Actually that's exactly what Ruutu did. Shoulder-to-shoulder, pure. No part of Ruutu ever touched Jagr's head.

I wish I remembered who it was in HFboards but...

Someone said in one of the "predictions" threads that if Finland wins one of the games against other top 7 countries, he will write a praising post about every single player.

Now I am waiting for that person to stand up and write that praise. I already said "I will call you on that" earlier because I knew this would happen.

That was me and I´m already working on it. Just wait and see.

Yeah, and he is very smart outside hockey. One of the smartest hockey players. Not joking. His style of play really suggest he would be an idiot ....but he is not.

Thanks for posting this here too. Now I can tell you how much bad luck I wish to you and Ruutu.

I can only hope it happens to Ruutu one day, and WORSE.

Sure and your contribution to the boards is amazing

So what is the situation of Jagr anyway? Playing tommorrow?

I have 3 pools this year, one Olympic, 2 regular and he happens to be in all 3. Got a lot of dough on the guy. Aside from that, he's a wonderful player anyway and we want to see more of that, so what's the update?
