CBC Three Stars:

1) Iginla

3) Muzzatti

That's how I had it too.

Is it me, or was the crowd very bias cheering for Italy. Are they nuts? What are they thinking? :dunno:

Heatley- Vinny-StLouisIm telling you, this will be the hottest line for us

Two things:

GREAT GAME ITALY! I bet the country will be so proud by the effort put in out there, just fantastic

Secondly:

Good to see the Canadian men have some class and don't play to run up a score :banghead: ...or is it too early in the tournament to make such a comment :help:

They would have run up the score if they could have. They didnt have their legs. It would be stupid not to run up the score when its a tiebreaker...

Does someone want to remind him where these Games are taking place?

Like Canadian fans aren't biased when Canada's playing at home LOL

and the same goes for any country

This was an absolute pathetic display by team Canada! Seeing how Sweden beat Kazakhstan 7-2, and Kaza is far superior to Italy, Team Canada is in big TROUBLE!!

I'm very disappointed. Canada has to stop floating around and start being more gritty especially on the defensive end.

Let me be the first to say that Papabear does not represent the general population in Canada. :teach:

And if Canada came out being a big physical presence, laying out the Italians at every opportunity and playing like the Gold was on the line. What then?

They didn't play their greatest, but it's game one with a new team. It'll come together and the grit will be there when it's needed.

i was being sarcastic, but anyhoo...

 To team Canada, though they didnt get their legs moving till the 2nd.

I hope so, because Sweden looked damn impressive today.

Gritty effort by those Italian guys from the Soo, Toronto, etc. They were really impressive on the PP and PK, probably because they've been practising together for two weeks. It was a typical jet-lag game for the Canadians, but they didn't look too bad in the second period, anyway.
Kris Draper couldn't put a puck in the ocean. His place should have gone to John Madden, Mike Fisher or any of a number of guys who have just as much speed and grit, but better skill.
Bertuzzi was great. McCabe had the expected bobbles. I thought Lecavalier and St. Louis had great chemistry with Heatley -- that line's a keeper for sure.
All in all, not a bad start for Canada. Not great, but not bad.
Bring on the Germans. I just hope we can penetrate the impregnable defence of Christoph Schubert.

I'm sure of it. They would have been criticized up and down as thugs etc if they came out hard against this team and not only ran the score way up but also injured a player or two by playing gritty and physical.

Nothing to be excited about. Canada went out and did what they had to do. Not surprising to see the slow start, but they went hard at them in the second period, and let up in the third period.

The first period was concerning. There wasn't any desperation in their play, and they tried to be too fancy, instead of just putting pucks on the net. That changed in the second period. If they play like they did in the second period, they deserve their team to beat status.

As stated in other threads, one of Canada's goals has to be to improve with every game. Lots to like today, but lots that needs improvement. Germany will bring a good test in terms of playing as a team, playing with desperation, fighting through checks and playing against a team that executes a strong defensive system, because the Finns and the Czechs do that well, too.

Quick analysis:

Brodeur's positioning was weak due to the different rink size. Goalies get positioning cues from the location of the faceoff circles. With the wider, shorter zone between goal line and blue line, the circles are positioned differently. This threw Brodeur off for the second goal.

Iginla-Sakic-Bertuzzi looked great together.

Richards did not impress.

Smyth drew a lot of penalties. Pair him with Draper on a checking/dump-and-cycle line.

Thornton was not his best, will improve. Nash was a Monst.. Mon.... I can't bring myself to say it. Nash was good, used his body well, move fast for a big man.

St. Louis and Lecavalier ("lecavilay", according to Harry Neale) played well.

I agree with the Heatley-Vinny-St.Louis sentiment.

Team Italy save the honour. It's impossible to play better for the Blue Team.

GOD SAVE MUZZATTI :handclap:

That's right. And two of the Italian players have the distinction of scoring Olympic goals against Canada's finest. Not too often that happens for Team Italy, I guess :handclap:

Ryan Smyth is 3rd among Canadian left wingers in goal scoring behind Heatley and Gange and he is perhaps the best puck/goal deflector in the NHL. Personally, I think he should get 1st PP time and play on an offensive line. He has great chemistry with Pronger on the PP.
