Did you watch the game? They played much more offense than their talent allows.

OCT 05 - DEC 26
Player Team GP PTS
McCabe, Bryan TOR 36 43
Visnovsky, Lubomir LA 38 36
Lidstrom, Nicklas DET 36 33
Boyle, Dan TB 37 30
Redden, Wade OTT 24 30
Redden = 1.25 PPG
McCabe = 1.19 PPG
Visnovsky = 0.947 PPG
Lidstrom = 0.917 PPG
Boyle = 0.811 PPG
Still gonna claim that he 'never did'?
Big Mama said:Where's your source. How many games did that last for because I missed it? Now that more games have played Redden has fallen below a PPG playing for the #1 5 on 5 scoring team. How would he do on the 25th 5 on 5 scoring team.

It doesn't matter how many games it lasted for, probably not many, because that's when Ottawa started to slump. The point is that is the time when Olympic roster talk was all over the place. I won't say those stats are good enough to justify any roster decisions, because they really don't mean much, but you challenged me with your 'Never did' comment so I'll break out the stats.

Why even bring in McCabe if he isnt even on the #1PP? Pronger and Blake is a better duo. Besides, hes the 7th dman, offensive output isnt highly important for that role since they dont play often.
Boyle>McCabe.
Excellent post - I agree on all points. Team Canada wanted McCabe for a specific role and if he succeeds in that role they made a good call. I hesitate to use the words "right" and "wrong" when it comes to the decision because whether Canada chose the "right" players will solely be determined (in this country at least) by whether or not they win the gold medal.Borlag said:I find it hilarious that no matter what country's game thread I read, there's always some people who's getting bashed like there's no tomorrow. McCabe is obviously good at what he does on the PP, but at the same time it's obvious that his defensive game isn't that good. I'm pretty sure that both the coaching staff and the management of Team Canada know this, and that leads me into thinking that they wanted him for his offensive capabilities and not his defensive capabilities. Would Phaneuf be a better all around defenseman? Most likely yes, but again, if they wanted an offensive d-man, then McCabe was the best choice there.
If he's not being played in the 1st PP line then perhaps the reason for that is that regardles of his NHL stats for this season, guys like Blake and Pronger have much longer history of being great PP quarterbacks. Not to mention that both of them have been playing better both offensively and defensively than McCabe during the first two matches.
edit: and I don't root for neither Flames nor the Leafs, but for the Wings, or more like for good hockey in general.
Peter_Schaefer said:Just to clarify, I'm not trying to argue that Redden is a better offensive player than McCabe. I'm just stating the facts.

Big Mama said:Yup, someone posted he had a 4 point game on the 26th and that did it. I missed it. I have both on my fantasy team so I am suprised I missed it but I was away from a computer during the few days after Christmas. Congrats, you were correct.
