Not that it matters but before Horvat failed to roof the puck, Palmieri fanned on it.

That could’ve helped Palmieri’s team worst +/- stat. He needs to go in the offseason but he’s a negative asset. It’ll take retention and then the Isles will get a mid round pick back at best.

Postgame Roy

We played well, but we made mistakes
It was the missed opportunities that lost us this game
Engvall played well..I like what I saw in him, but I think he can give more. I'd like to see more.
Bortuzzo is a bit rusty and we need him ready if we're going to make the playoffs

You know there’s a plethora of options besides ‘do nothing’ and ‘trade everyone’ right?

Maybe you didn’t. :teach:
There's no realistic option to turn a bad NHL team with practically no trade assets and cap space into a Cup contender. Roster is only going to get older and worse next season.

The line of thinking that this window can be salvaged is just going to make the eventual rebuild even more painful and long. Start now, get some value back for players like Nelson and Palms, and maybe you can start thinking about the playoffs again by the late 2020s. Keep trying to revive a dead horse and you can kiss the playoffs away until the 2030s.

The team right now is in the equivalent state of the 2006 team. The rebuild is coming, that's not the question. The only question is whether the team starts it early or waits until the wheels completely come off. I know what option I want.

Difference is opponent's goalies are making saves that they have no business making and Sorokin is letting in goals that should be an easy save. I don't think he has stolen a game in two years.

Surely at this point you give Ishakov, Maggio, Dufour and even Salo and Bolduc a look. There is no reason to win games now. And it is clear this group needs to be broken up.
I know ownership wants them to win games, but use this time to see what the prospects can do.
Might salvage something from season.

Sadly, this is about what I expected from tonight's game. This team needs Vezina calibre goaltending to even think about competing for a wild card spot; without it, there's no chance. Now that it has been revealed that we don't have Vezina calibre goaltending, the question is how to proceed - move Sorokin and hope you can get a decent package, or hold on to him? We've talked about the dead weight contracts repeatedly (Lee, Palmieri, Pageau), but for me, the real question is in net.

Fans tend to be defensive of their team, so when Lambert got fired and a lot of other fans around the league were puzzled, there was a lot of “non-Isles fans don’t understand how bad Lambert was” talk.

I think we all wanted Lambert gone, but hopefully that contingent of fans aren’t afraid to point their finger at the roster now too.

That's the complete opposite of what they should do.

The core is cooked and there's nothing in the farm. The only way forward is unfortunately through a long rebuild.

Keep the picks, and trade Nelson/Palmieri this summer for more picks. Tank for the 2025 draft.
They aren’t going to tank purposely, IMO once you know you’re not getting Celebrini you punt picks in 24 to get rid of Lee and Pageau especially. If you trade Nelson you load up on 25 picks which is being talked about as one of the deepest drafts years. You can’t get rid of everyone obviously but with Martin and Clutterbuck free agents and if you do move out Lee your changing leadership and the real voices in room. Some pain will be needed to get cap in order and that to me is sacrificing high picks in 24.

Maybe the saddest part is you see these other teams around us at least how hard they are playing. The Devils win 4-1 over a top team in Winnipeg. Flyers go to OT and get a point on the road against a Carolina team that stomped us two days ago. Buffalo up 2-0 early in Edmonton. Then we have Our team which doesnt give a shit until they are down 4 goals.
