I feel BUF is not a factor. Its FLA/NYI/WSH for that final spot. The Caps IMO are awful, that one hot streak is the only reason they are even still in it, outside of mid November to mid December they have been extremely bad. I think they are easily a non playoff team beginning in 23-24 for a good 3 years or more. FLA simply needed to time to adjust to Maurice, they may not get in this year but they'll be back next season.
I’ll preface my comments by saying who the f’ knows what’ll happen.

As far as Buffalo goes, I agree. This is a learning curve season for them and they’ll be a force in 1-2 years but not this season.

I’ll throw in Pittsburgh to the mix. I see 4 teams vying for 2 spots. Washington looks beatable but you could say the same about the Isles before the last game. The Cap’s GM is not going to waste the last couple years of Ovi’s competitive career without making a major add at the TDL. That could change everything.

Think buffalo is dangerous and loose. Scary combo.

Kane talked to Chicago media about having some options and that it might be fun to play closer to home

Seems like a great match both ways from a hockey perspective

Whatever. If the line continues to succeed it will be a great thing for the team. Why does it irk you so much when Bailey plays well?
Because he likes the status quo?

Im ecstatic when Bailey plays well, you know why?

Cuz that means that the team is playing well and we are winning. Bailey NEVER plays well when the team is losing and cannot be relied upon to generate anything to help the team win.

AKA.

not a top 6 player.

Leeches have been used in medicine, almost continuously, for thousands of years. So the comparison suggests that Bailey will be with us for some time.

lol.. hes been around too long. Time to scrape him off!! :)

2-0-1 needs to be the absolute bare minimum over the next 3 games imo, should honestly be 3-0 but in the world of hockey where every game is unpredictable 5/6 points against VAN, MTL, and OTT needs to be the goal.

Team playing poorly + Bailey playing poorly = Bailey sucks
Bailey playing well + team playing well = Bailey sucks
Team playing poorly + Bailey playing well = What would make Bailey a valuable player according to Bones.

Makes sense.

What does Bailey bring to the table? What are his strengths?

Passing. That's about it.

Doesn't hit, shoot, score, isn't fast, doesn't work the corners, isn't a threat in any way shape or form.

Even our 4th liners have traits which are missed when they are out of the lineup. Martin/Zeeker -- hustle, hit, energy, grinder, enforcer, passion, effort. Bailey has none of those things either.

Games played, perimeter cruising, and ability to avoid checking or being checked -- THATS his resume. He isn't a game changer or specialist in any aspect of anything. When was the last time anyone has said.. "wow.. look at the energy and passion on Bailey there"? He's invisible and does nothing when the Isles are playing their typical game.

So again, what exactly do we miss when he isn't in the lineup? What does he bring to the table which any average NHLer cant do?

And don't fire up any worthless "well he sees the ice really well" and "hockey IQ" horseshit.

me and my son were joking that when he had the goalie down last night and he couldn't slip it past him when the puck was in the crease that he wasn't trying to score but rather passing it through traffic into the slot

To be fair, this is about the first positive thing I’ve said about Lambert.

Well sounded like you were actually more bashing Trotz, but nevertheless....Since I believe that we won't be seeing the semifinals again with Lambert as coach, not sure he needs anything positive said about him.

Notice i didn't mention ANYTHING about his inability to actually finish a play. He's more well know for botching obvious goals rather than finishing the play. Its comical on the GDT when people are saying "Bailey is the place that our offense goes to die" LOL.. so true. Top 6 my ass.

Wow, it really does irk you that he is not only a top 6 forward now but a top THREE forward. :)

I'll be the first one to admit Bailey has regressed this season. Doesn't take away from him being a serviceable, defensively responsible player for 15+ seasons who can play almost any forward position (currently LW1 FYI) and was a big part of the two deep playoff runs. And yes, a top 6 forward during those runs.

Didn't think youd be able to give me any strengths. :)

and yet the commentary on Baileys play is spot on. Go figya

Was at the game last night and the vibes were immaculate. Just felt like the boys were buzzin' and the crowd was feeding off it. Love to see it.

I told my buddy that the feeling around the team is similar to when we traded for Boychuk and Leddy on the same day. Horvat has really brought a spark to the team.
Agreed. Definitely more buzz last night than there’s been in a while, both from the fans and players.

Bailey.......I have always been a fan but with the understanding of what he does and where it works. He has played well in his career. Last year, no...this year, even i want him, well....to move on.

But....he actually may just be the right player to play with Matt and Bo. These two are moving all over the ice, Bails...not so much, yet he is smart enough to be in the right places and to make passes to these two, and they yet may elevate his play in doing so.

I think he is the absolute correct player to get first crack at this line and he may just excel.

He may have to move on whether he does or not though for cap space, but....this is well worth a shot and so far...ok.

It's incredible to me that this coaching staff hasn't figured out a way for the team to gain the zone on a power play without doing that stupid drop pass EVERY time. It's like the other team knows it's coming and they just collapse on the puck carrier and break it up.
Oh, I do not understand it either. I’m no great Hockey mind, just a fan so far be it from me to criticize strategy.

I get it as a change of pace, but they do it nearly every time. Very frustrating to watch because they try to force the puck back when there is no pass and the defending team is anticipating it.

Then if the play works there are four defenders and four forward standing at the BlueLine clocking up the path of the forward advancing the puck. It’s maddening when it doesn’t work.
