Could not have asked for a better executed game against a good team. Horvat, thus far, has reignited this group, as a whole. Barzal, Bailey on down. Outside of his goalscoring, this may be the best outcome from the trade.

Pelech looks like his former self, and generally, the D looks poised compared to a week and half ago. They won't go anywhere if they don't tighten things up. The puck support in particular has stood out.

Sorokin is Sorokin. I haven't had a favorite Islander since Okposo.

If they can keep this going until the deadline, why not add another forward and D man (Andy Greene type) to offset inevitable injuries. Perhaps Wahlstrom returns for the playoffs. Truly Carpe Diem and grab Tank as a rental? Even a depth forward would be useful. I won't get too far ahead.

I'd also keep Wotherspoon/Bolduc in over Aho. Aho has been solid enough, with that said, Wotherspoon and Bolduc consistently defend well.

Work on that PP and keep rolling through February.
Horvat is pretty strong....guys bounce off him. I thought Fasching, Palms and Pulock were superb tonight. Freaking Pitt came up big vs Colo. Gotta keep plugging

I'm just going to keep asking this... what is Romanov bringing to this team? A minus on offense, a minus on defense... but he lays a hip check once every 12 games. He hasn't played any better than Aho, Wotherspoon, or Bolduc and if Sorokin were already signed (or Varlamov were) I think we'd be looking at flipping him right back to a team that's more concerned with rebuilding than we apparently are. Still, if Romanov is available on Thursday and we're sitting Bolduc for him I'm going to be concerned

Romanov has been fine. He was a bit exposed playing extra mins in Pelech's absence, but I like him as a number 5, developing into a 4. He's tough one-on-one, he blocks shots, his gap control is good, he's physical; however, his IQ is kind of low, he misreads plays. This can be developed (to an extent). He is certainly better than Aho. Right now it's Wotherspoon versus Bolduc for that last spot, IMHO, unless Lou adds a depth D man in the Andy Greene mold.

Everyone was good, but a special shoutout to Holmstrom. He does a lot of little useful plays out there, to compound some skill. Going to be an impactful third liner in this league for quite some time.

I haven't been able to watch whole games, but it seems pretty clear from what I've seen that Barzal's ability to be more aggressive in puck pursuit is producing chances, and goals. He's made some mistakes in the neutral zone so far, but he can simplify his game. If Barzal make that aggressive puck pursuit consistent, all Horvat will have to do, offensively, is to always be ready to move to space. And that's what he'd been doing playing with Pettersson anyway.

Barzal has the ability to do a lot of what Parise did years ago, and what Marchand does (although nobody does it better than Crosby) - buzz on the forcheck until the opponent makes a mistake. Let's hope he can do that consistently.

I missed 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there, but this looked like the boys' best overall game in 2023.

And they're now on a 4-game winning streak. Couldn't have come at a more important time.

3 highly beatable teams on dock looking forward.

It's incredible to me that this coaching staff hasn't figured out a way for the team to gain the zone on a power play without doing that stupid drop pass EVERY time. It's like the other team knows it's coming and they just collapse on the puck carrier and break it up.

I have been an islander fan since 1979, 4 years old… however i am not a hockey expert… can someone who really knows hockey please explain to me what this team has to do to improve the pp?? its seriously anemic. embarrassing… the other thing that really bothers me is that they win a draw but yet the other team gets possession of the puck. i dont get it…

excellent effort tonight, with pelech back my confidence in the d is actually starting to grow alot!

the bo goal was insane with the crowd chanting his name, that was awesome!!!!!!

i still hate lambert he needs to go. this team is VERYYYY much in the playoff hunt, games in hand dont mean as much as so many think, you have to win those games yes its a luxury but nothing is guaranteed.

love the poster who posted barzal-bo-Pastrnak hahaha ya never know lol

FIX THE FURRRRGNNNNN PP DAMN IT!!!!!
need more movement for one thing. too much standing around which lends itself to predictability and stagnation

Pay no mind to the games in hand argument right now considering the Isles have 3 games left against both Washington and Pittsburgh and 2 against Buffalo. That's a lot of control over our own destiny still to play out

I feel BUF is not a factor. Its FLA/NYI/WSH for that final spot. The Caps IMO are awful, that one hot streak is the only reason they are even still in it, outside of mid November to mid December they have been extremely bad. I think they are easily a non playoff team beginning in 23-24 for a good 3 years or more. FLA simply needed to time to adjust to Maurice, they may not get in this year but they'll be back next season.

Nice win for the good guys but make no mistake Sorokin played outstanding. I would not be disillusioned with the past 2 wins and I would absolutely pull the trigger on another deal if it is out there to acquire more offense
