GDT: GDT #42 New York Islanders @ Utah Hockey Club | January 11th | 9:00 PM | F/2-1 W

When was the last time we saw the Isles fighting like this for a win? This is all Roy. Usually they would be retreating hoping the other team would cough up the puck. Love how everyone’s driving to the net and the D taking all those shots. Keep it up boys!!!

Great win, unreal that this is our first 3 game win streak of the year. Not good enough

Just about every team in the east got points tonight too besides Pitt

The aSseT ManAgEMeNt thing to do is trading Varlamov and keeping Hogberg
Yup- but my guess is there is zero market for Varly. Old, often injured, avg to below avg and very overpaid for two more years after this one. It was a bad deal when it was signed and looks worse every year

The Isles control their own fate now. Things are looking good. They will be just fine.

Solid win. Only able to watch the third period but the effort seems to be there. I can't root for losses but I would certainly be glad to eat my hat if this team makes the playoffs. Certainly enjoying this win streak and most importantly, so are the players.

If after watching just this last few games, when we see a healthy Barzal skating around the ice like no one could catch him, and you still think he's not the game breaking player he clearly is you are completely blind.

Third best save percentage in the league last year. Cut him.

I only saw the last 10 mins of the third, but they looked fast, decisive, and cohesive. Different than most of the season to date. The PK and 6 on 5 though still looked ridiculously bad, and I think they were real lucky not to allow a goal. Hoping to not allow a goal is not a viable strategy. Better to be lucky than good?

But whatev. <shrug>

The sad thing as that many would rather sulk then to enjoy these great wins.
Who is not enjoying a win? Come puck drop I’m locked in ready to enjoy an Islanders game.

I am also of the belief that nothing good comes from keeping or resigning Palms or Nelson. They both should be traded instead of testing free agency (like Brock has even said) or being resigned to a new contract.

You can do both.

Rags beat Vegas last night too

Welp, i half slept through the game as i was beat....in fairness though, since the team has done that on far too many occasions this season, i deserved one of my own. From what i did see, looked like a well played game and nice to see Hogs do well and get a win.

A three game win streak is a good thing and this was a good road trip, nice to see. The home stand will likely sway a good bit of what we do come deadline time.

But.....either way we need to know that either we are keeping Nelson (which is not the preferred outcome but livable if need be) or losing him and if losing him need to get something for him. If we get nothing for Palms, so be it....not sure we get much for him in any regard. Lou does have the time he so much likes...and so do we, for now....

I agree regarding the enjoyment part and agree that teams not in contention should generally be trading players like Nelson or Palms, but based on how the East started the season who’s the true contender? It could be by the way the Islanders are playing they would be looking for the same kind of players by the end of the season as well. My thoughts as they have been all season are if the isles have any chance of making the playoffs and any chance of beating good teams you go for it. This is probably the teams best chance before the core gets too old that a rebuild is absolutely necessary. If you can get a better return on those two I would say go for it. I just don’t see that happening. A long rebuild is coming regardless in a couple of years.

I'll have what she's having.

If the Isles are deadline sellers and I'm a buyer wanting to win the cup the player to obtain is Anders Lee.
That is actually very true.....would be interesting to see what could be offered, though pretty sure Lou does not see Lee as someone to move.

Brock Nelson looks like he’s ready to go on a scoring binge.

I could understand the pessimism in everyone but in actuality the rebuild that needed to occur was their system of play. The team was in transition. The team is getting old but this system looks pretty damn good and the system alone can make all the difference come playoff time. Special teams have to improve and it doesn’t matter who is on the ice if the PP/PK systems are ineffective.

The team went from a mentally risky game plan where they were creating an impenetrable wall playing not to lose and capitalizing from other teams mistakes to playing on their heals eventually devolving into a fear of losing and outright panic while making a ton of defensive mistakes. That’s what happens when a pusher mentality falls apart and why I disliked the Trotz system so much. Playing not to lose is risky and the teams panicking and penchant for collapsing late in games started with that mentality. This is what Roy has been working on all season. Based on what has happened the past 3 games does anyone not like what they see?

In the short 3/4 of a season Roy has been here I see signs that he is successfully changing that. If they continue with these dominating 5 on 5 play why not go for it under this new system where the team plays to dominate and win? I’m all for going for it and I still have enough faith in this team based on what I am seeing now. I saw it as a process and I like the outcome thus far.

My thoughts were retool if the players continued to show that their individual mentalities were such damaged goods that you had to change the roster just to fix that.

This team is pathetic. They should still sell and a three game winning streak compared to the last four seasons of mediocrity should not change anyone's mind on selling.
The mediocrity stemmed from the absolutely abhorrent coaching job those past 4 years not the players on the ice. Rebuild the system not necessarily the roster. Yes they are getting older but the pieces are there to make a solid run at least this year and the farm team is looking pretty good so why worry too much about the future?

This next home stand will tell us where this team is headed. I wouldn’t make any changes right now because at least based on how they are playing 5 on 5 they have proven they can beat even the best teams in the league starting now so forget the first half of the season (because that was the cost of making theses systematic changes and all the injuries) and just go for it.
