Just don't see that "it" factor in Dobson that lead to memorial cup alpha males wins. Get angry already play pissed. Take over a game. It's been how long now? He is pissing away millions soon by being passive. Can carve out a career but it's looking more and more he won't be that guy some thought. Still pulling for him as the next step would really really help the team but c'mon brother......get pissed
He’s gonna get paid no matter what. His defensive gaffes will be overlooked because he’s a 70 point defenseman. That’s all most will see.

The reality is he’s costing the isles 10-14 points each year in the regular season with his gaffes. Luckily the Isles salvaged a point out of it against a WC team.

Didn’t see any comment on Barzal. He wasn’t skating at all.
Horvat was. It seemed like the plan was to find Horvat in prime spots and get him the puck.

On that line there will be times where one guy may outshine the other two. I didn't think Barzal had a bad game in any fashion.

Christ, the people down here who experienced the tornadoes are panicking less than the posters here!

Frankly, the minute I saw the Bailey tribute, I knew it was going to be a Twilight Zone game

Hopefully, Bones didn't have a PTSD reaction to it . . .

Utah's HC assisted Roy in Colorado, they played us the same way Roy is teaching the team to play and they got the better of us last night. That's a heck of a team who will make the playoffs barring a lot of injuries.

Dobson will be hearing over and over . . . Again, again, again

Any of you Tsyp skeptics do your mea culpa yet?

Chill people, the apocalypse is not upon us.

Nelson looked better at ES than he did all preseason. When palmieri isn't on a heater his turnovers are hard to bear.
I thought he had a poor camp and so did Dobson. Seems to have carried over. Nelson was largely ineffective and gets lost on coverages between the hashmarks-either too high or too low.
Dobson and Romanov should want to burn the tape of this game. Woof.

We’re already one game in and no goals for Brocktober?

On a more serious note, this is a contract year for him so it’s obviously in his best interests to play well and score goals. No matter how it pans out, I’m horrified at the prospect of signing him to a long term deal given his age and his lack of intensity. That combination typically doesn’t bode well for a long career into your mid-30s and beyond.

Folks, isles added Duclair and Tsyp, and didn’t bring back clutter and Martin. That’s 20% of the roster right there that’s not the same from last year. Most teams in the league return 80% of their roster from the previous season.

Get over yourselves with the same roster BS

Yes I do
It will be less painful now
As his play continuee to impress and you don't do it, the cost arises, and eventually it will be like the 10 plagues of Egypt!

Meanwhile, this loss continues an obvious multi-year trend, but it’s “just one game.”

A loss like this would’ve caused panic prior to 2022, but over the last couple years it doesn’t rank in the top ten worst losses - most of us are numb to the ineptitude at this point.

That is a strange way to calculate roster turnover - 2 new forwards out of a 22 man roster is less than 10% turnover.

I don't know....the team had a different feel to me from last year, for the better — despite the very familiar poor PK and blown leads. I'm confident that will get cleaned up moving ahead from day 1 of a system change.

Tsyplakov looks like he could be a steal.

I would have liked to see Cizikas and MacLean make more of an impact swarming the puck and disrupting Utah's flow on a few shifts.

Tsyplakov was on quite a few teams radars. We are so lucky. The man's going to have a big impact on this team. Big, strong playmaking powerforward who can snipe. Gotta love that.

And if anyone is wondering can he throw down the mitts to standup for his teammates:

Gotta love those straight punches.

Agreed.

We have fewer AHL quality players on our roster. Dare I say, we don’t have any?

The problem remains that we do not have enough high end talent. After years of worrying about our abilities in the offensive end, I think our weakness may ironically end up being more of a lack of high end defensive talent.

We still have to play the games so I hope Roy and the new additions find some Mets magic.

On UT's last 2 goals, Dobson was kinda trying to do too much. On the tying goal he was looking at Romanov, who was handling his own guy, and he let his own guy get open. Just worry about your own job. And on the OT goal he needed to pull back or move the puck or something rather than getting caught in a 1 on 2.

Do less yourself and trust your teammates - would've solved both of those.

I'd argue a full season of MacLean starting on the roster and Engvall gone is another change. He only played 32 games last season.
Another fair point. The whiny narrative that this is the same roster is wrong.

Lots of cool things in this game and yes, it's nice to see Duclair and Tsyplakov contribute right off the bat.

At the end of the day, some of those Utah goals were just too easy and highly stoppable with more concentration and awareness at the right moment.

Seeing Utah score within seconds of the Isles taking a lead not once, but twice, was brutal!

And again, you should never allow a goal against in the first or last two mintues of a period.

Roy already has some diversity to deal with. Am curious to see what he does to curb those suddenly classical NYI difficulties/weaknesses.

I’m crossing my fingers that the first two weeks of nhl hockey are usually a bit off, then things settle down.

Some teams get caught up in bad habits in the first two, others overcome them and move on (and up).

Let’s see. There’s no prediction thread, however, despite last night, the Isles take 2nd in the Metro and win two rounds.
