Both want to play at home.
Gaudreau contract at an impasse as he is not committed to Calgary.

Sign Gaudreau to the identical 6M contract as Hall and swap them.

Both kids play at home.

caveat...Chiarelli might have stipulated that Hall not be traded west for x amount of time

I doubt New Jersey trades Hall before he even plays a game for them.

I also think Gaudreau will want more than 6M.

NJ is in no position to have to give up such an asset for a player that is, as of right now, unwilling to resign. If it came with a contract extension, sure, the argument could be made further, but I think Calgary would have to take less at this point.

First of all, with how much salaries have increased in the last couple of years, I don't think Gaudreau would sign for Hall's cap hit. If he were open to it, he would have signed already I wager.

Second, I don't see New Jersey to impressed with the idea of swapping Hall for Johnny unless they really feel that Johnny is a far superior player. The optics are bad.

Third, Gaudreau's contract isn't exactly at an impasse. There is still time for him to sign.

At no point has he said he doesn't want to commit to Calgary. Every reliable source there has said they both want a longterm deal, the only thing that's still in the works is the amount.

Regardless, no. IF Johnny is dealt, it's likely to Philly. Not interested in Taylor Hall.

Monahan is the franchise player for the Flames and he checked in at 6.375
MacKinnon is the franchise guy for the Avalanche with a deal just inked at 6.3.
Johnny is barking at the moon for a contract more than these #s

Regardless, it would have to be a signed Johnny to NJ - and I think he accepts 6x6 with the understanding that it's to be traded to NJ

I disagree. He isn't THE franchise guy. Monahan, Gaudreau, and Brodie are all players that the Flames want to build around.

How is he 'barking at the moon'? Very few details regarding their negotiations have been made public. As for him wanting more, that makes sense. He's a better player than Monahan and MacKinnon.

[QUOTEHe's a better player than Monahan and MacKinnon.[/QUOTE]

no, he isn't.
There is a heirarchy based on position.
#1 Defence 1
#2 Centre
#3 Defence 2
#4 Goaltending
#5 Wingers

Didn't the Taylor Hall trade teach you anything about this heirarchy?

I don't think NJ does this to be honest.

However I do think Johnny would take less out east, so maybe 6.5x6? I don't think he signs that with the Flames though

I think NJ likes the Hall-Henrique connection, and besides they just went through a whole thing about welcoming Hall to the team and all that. It's just bad form to trade him for Gaudreau now. The trade could easily end up being a bad one just from a player value standpoint in the end also. Never mind that NJ would now have a problem in that they would have to sign Johnny, and do so for more money than the Hall deal, and there's zero chance Calgary would allow Gaudreau and NJ to talk together beforehand.

1. Calgary isn't "home" for Taylor Hall.

2. I have no idea why New Jersey would do this.

Edit: Way to have my back, autocorrect.

Calgary isn't home for Taylor Hall.
The rest of this is just weird conspiracy theory crap

Gaudreau is a franchise player. Stop treating him as anything else. The NA team will shut up all the doubters/non-watchers/haters. He's the second best player on team North America hands down. Hell the gap between him and McDavid at this second isn't that large. Put that into perspective. The guy is a superstar. He makes every player on the ice he plays with better. Only the best players do that. He's one of the few players that can put a team on his back with his offensive abilities.

Taylor Hall is not a franchise player. He's a very, very good player.

Didn't Hall play in the OHL? How is Calgary "home" for him? Am I missing something?

I forget where Hall was born but he spent a good chunk of his life in Kingston so Ottawa would probably be closer to home for him.
