I started playing Godzilla Voxel Wars a few days ago. It's a cute little turn-based puzzle/strategy game that's made by Toho and clearly inspired by Into the Breach. You play primarily as Godzilla and must use each turn to move and attack on a grid and prevent other monsters from the Japanese Godzilla movies (like Rodan, Mothra and such) from damaging civilian buildings. The gameplay is instantly familiar if you've played Into the Breach. Where it differs is that, instead of a roguelite with procedurally generated levels and characters that you hire and upgrade, it's a simpler, more casual, mobile-like game with a series of pre-designed, self-contained scenarios with the possibility of 3 stars on each. At first, I was a little disappointed by the simplified and easier gameplay, but I've really warmed up to it and am enjoying it, especially since I started challenging myself to not move onto the next scenario until I've gotten not just all 3 stars, but figured out the ideal sequence of moves and attacks. It's rather satisfying and scratches my efficiency itch when I get the "Perfect Strategy" achievement for a scenario. Also, the cute, blocky graphics and classical string soundtrack are a pleasure to look at and listen to. It's a charming and relaxing game that's mildly challenging, good for short gaming sessions and especially worthwhile if you're a fan of Into the Breach. That's one of my favorite games of the last decade, so I'm happy that there's finally another game with somewhat similar gameplay, even if it's simpler.
