Just started Crusader Kings III.

What have I gotten into

I played for a bit last year I think, was recently contemplating going back to it because it's such an easy game to get sucked into. I've played for hours and hours and still feel like I don't understand everything. Not sure I've ever read so much in my life with all their sub menus and definitions of things.

20 years ago I would've loved CK3 and the other grand strategy games like it but I don't have the patience or free time to sink into something as deep as that, Civilization has been my limit and will probably continue to be lol

I started Spiderman because it is leaving PS+ next month.

It's......fine. Pretty much exactly as I expected. Batman Arkham series (I only played Arkham Knight) with a different coat of paint.

I'm like 25% through and starting to lose interest, though. I'm not really into superhero stuff (and to the level I am, I like Batman more than Spiderman) and the gameplay is getting redundant (especially after playing such a similar game in Batman). The whole open world checklist type of game isn't really my cup of tea to begin with.

It seems like it'll scratch an itch I've had for a long time but as of right now I'm trying to find the time to really sink my teeth into it and figure out how it all works. I've been fascinated just learning about religions and characters I didn't know about.

Seems pretty common. The overwhelming majority of gamers do not finish games.

It was about 10% if you believe an article from a decade ago, but one from 2019 looked at 240 games on Metacritic and the completion rate was around 16%.

There are exceptions, of course. This article was interesting to read.

I assume that is just counting people who have started games and not finished and does not include games purchased and never played

15-20 yrs ago I would probably have been in the 10-20% range, but in the last 10 years I would probably guess I am closer to 80%, at some point I just decided to push thru and finish anything that I could unless I got to a point where I was just completely stuck

Wow. 10-16% seems crazy low.

I'm probably closer to 75%. Even with Spiderman, I'm mostly checked out, but it gives me something to do while I'm listening to a podcast or music.

I tend to finish games I really enjoy, but those are few and far between. The number of games I've finished in the last decade is probably less than 10.

XCOM 2, RDR 2, GTA V, Cyberpunk 2077, Wasteland 3.

Divinity Original Sin 2, Borderlands 3 and Far Cry 6 were all played co-op, and there's no way I would have finished them otherwise.

I'm probably forgetting a few but that's about it!

Started Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores last night, just did the first mission or two, took a while to remember the controls after finishing the main game in late December, after recently playing Skyward Sword HD, I keep finding myself hitting the button to fix the camera when Aloy is turned a certain way

Been playing through Stray on PS5 and really enjoying it. Finding I need to add more shorter single player games into the mix.

Likely going to finish it tonight. If anyone has a suggestion of what to play next in the 5ish hour range, keep me posted!

Started Dragon Quest XI this week as it’s on PS+. In a bit of a JRPG mood these days so I figured I’d take a run at it and see if I can get through it before FFXVI comes out. So far It’s quite nostalgic and acting comfort food for me. Makes me reminisce on my childhood gaming quite a bit

It's fairly solid and, as you said, it's comfort food for genre fans

Either the Resident Evil 2 or 3 remakes, they are over 5 hrs but less than 10

Fun little platformer there. I thought it was going to be a cute entertaining little cat game, but it's really got a bit of a dark vibe to it. Aesthetically and storyline-wise.

This has me curious which games I finished and which games I bailed on. I've only been playing for like 2+ years, so it's not that many games for me.

Finished:
Bloodborne
Sekiro
Elden Ring
Demon's Souls
Dark Souls 3
Detroit: Become Human
Nioh 2
Returnal
Shadow of the Colossus
Celeste
Hollow Knight
Deathloop
Doom (2016)
RDR2
Tony Hawk 1+2
Control
Stray
Ghost of Tsushima
A Plague Tale : Innocence
Batman: Arkham Knight
Uncharted 4
Horizon Zero Dawn
God of War (2018)
TLOU 1 and 2
Ratchet and Clank

Of those, I wish I bailed on Shadow of the Colossus, RDR2, Horizon, TLOU 2, and Ratchet and Clank. Uncharted and Batman were pretty close to joining that list, but by the time I was getting tired of them, I was really close to finishing them.

Bailed On:
The Last Guardian
Resident Evil 7
Battlefield 1
Hitman 2
Mortal Shell
Curse of the Dead Gods
GTA : Vice City
Abzu
Witcher 3
RDR2 (bailed on it the first time and then finished it the second try)

Of those, I might go back to revisit RE7, Mortal Shell, and Witcher 3.

So my estimate was pretty close. 71% completion rate.

It's funny because I also bailed on RE7 and Vice City (twice). We'll see for Hitman 2, which is in my "to play next" list.

Let's verify my completion rate for 2022-2023:

Finished:
Halo: Infinite
Far Cry 6
Terminator: Resistance
Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Kona
Fallout 4
Fallout 76
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Metro: 2033
Rise Of The Tomb Raider
Cyberpunk 2077
Ryse: Son Of Rome

Bailed on:
Burnout Paradise Remastered
Dirt 5
Need For Speed: Heat
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Batman: Arkham Knight
Crackdown 2
Metro: Last Light

Completion rate of: 63%

I started Grounded last night. I wasn't expecting a hardcore survival game with hunger, thirst, base building, a million things to analyze and craft and enemies that can one-hit kill me. It reminds me of Subnautica in a lot of ways, except, of course, that I'm on foot in a backyard instead of underwater in the ocean. I love Subnautica, so this is up my alley, but it's going to take longer to finish than I was anticipating. It's particularly more complex, stressful and challenging than I was expecting.
