Games Tonight Affecting Sens

The cheapest option for Sens on demand is 2500 I believe? I do not see the 650 option.

Half season 300 ends are $1450 for a pair. So $1200 was low, but still in the same ballpark. That's before accounting for anything you recoup if you choose to sell off some regular season games you cannot or do not want to attend. Lots of people will sell something like 1/3rd of their regular season games and come close to breaking even on the entire package. Also keep in mind you can pay in multiple instalments, and you can trade tickets for different games.

What I don't get is why is the team waiting so long to release single game playoff tickets.

Sens are practically in. Release it for everyone to buy before the matchups are determined.
Account manager said they may release the single game tickets for SSM purchase once we clinch (probably for refund risk?) and have a better idea of the opponent / schedule.

I think that's WAY too long to wait and if they don't sell out, then they have this process to blame.

Maybe mods can move this chain to the will we sell out thread, since this is a longer discussion and is a bit off topic here.

But this is what Cyril Leeder said would happen with the next round of tickets. As far as I know, SSMs haven't actually gotten a crack at single game tickets yet. It has been all package deals where they have to buy the entire playoff package, not just round 1. The current "discounted" offer for an entire playoff package expires tonight or tomorrow. Then they will apparently give SSMs first crack at single game tickets at "full price" before the public. We have a reasonable chance of clinching by the end of the week.

My guess would be if we face the Leafs that single game tickets sell out or come close to selling out when SSMs get a crack at them.

People act like the Habs are waaay ahead of schedule.

I actually think that’s false. Their key forward was drafted in 2017. Their second best forward was drafted in 2019. And one of their very good d was drafted in 2020.

They’ve also signed competent goaltending and continued to draft well.

We also likely could have made the playoffs the last two years if Dorion and DJ were not leading us.

NHL standings website is messed up, right? Shouldn't Boston and Philly both be eliminated as of last night? Max points for either now is 81.

Regardless, bottom half of the East can no longer catch us - Bruins, Flyers, Sabres and Pens all out of reach.

If we win tonight, NYI can't catch us either (max pts 90, we win the RW tie-breaker)

Games to watch out for over the next few days:

Tonight
Sens vs BJ's
Florida vs Detroit
Habs vs Preds

Monday
Tampa vs Rangers

Tuesday
Sens vs BJ's
Detroit vs Habs
Leafs vs Florida

It's looking like tomorrow is an opportunity to lock in a spot - if we win tonight (90 pts, 5 GR, Max 100 pts)), and the Rangers and Wings both lose (Rangers: 79 pts, 5 GR, Max 89 pts; Wings: 77 pts, 6 GR, Max 89 pts), neither can catch us, nor can Columbus (77 pts, 6 GR, Max 89 pts).

I didn't realize how much I miss checking the standings in the morning.

It's an impressive run - it reminds me a bit of the Hamburglar run where it was a lot of exciting moments and a bit of a welcome surprise.

To their credit, they wanted to be "in da mix" and they are, which is meeting expectations at the minimum.

One interesting statistic is the 8 3rd period comeback wins (including against us) and 3 OT losses from a 3rd period comeback. That's a big chunk of their points. They ride that emotion in the 3rd so well.

By contrast, we have 3 3rd period comeback wins.

At the same time, they are down in the 3rd period a lot. If you look at wins with the lead after 2, Montreal is down in 22nd, with Anaheim, Columbus, Utah, Philadelphia, Nashville, Pittsburgh Boston, Chicago, Seattle, San Jose, see a trend here, behind them.

We are 9th, on par with Colorado, Toronto, Edmonton...

I think they are a bit of a cinderella team this year. But that's probably better than expectations, and getting playoff experience is critical for younger players.

Is it true we clinch if we win in regulation tonight? I wanna know whether I should book it for the bus or stay an extra five minutes after the whistle to soak it all in.
Just looked at the standings and we would need at least another point as the Rangers still have a chance to catch up if they win all their remaining games (6 games / 79 pts at the moment so 91 max) and we lose them all. A win today pretty much seals it, but not quite.

not sure if its exactly right but I think 92 seals the deal on all the teams chasing us who are all close to the same situation as the rangers.

Next 4 games
BJs
@ BJs
Habs
Flyers

3 games at home we should be able to get 4 points if we play half decent

If we win today, only the Rangers have a chance to catch us. 92 seals it, 91 would depend on who gets the tie-breaker ... I never scoreboard watch, but I think I did more in the last two weeks than ever 😅 Let's just win the next two and move on, had enough stress with their play this year, can't take more for the playoff race😉

We have the tiebreaker over the Rangers I think (ROW?).

I guess I'm grasping at straws because it would be cool to be there when they officially clinch.

The access you are talking about is going entirely to season seat members. People who aren't SSMs will get to fight over whatever is left, if anything is left. They have been pretty clear that the general public shouldn't expect to get tickets since they will only get access as a last resort if any are remaining. They have sold 10k+ full playoff packages, so it's not like they aren't selling playoff tickets yet.

The messaging is clear, they want people to convert their dollars away from individual games/the secondary market, and support the team directly. Something like $1200 or so is the minimum it takes to become an SSM and it can be paid monthly. The price can also be subsidized by selling off a few regular season games. So with how accessible it is cost wise, there is a large market of hardcore fans who are too comfortable with how easy it is to buy tickets on the secondary market and never subscribe to the team.

Granted, I don't think playoff tickets will normally be this hot, but the message they are giving is if you want guaranteed access to playoffs, you have to be an SSM. I think that is fair but I get people who are annoyed because they expected single game tickets and feel like they are missing out.

While I get that view on their part, they shouldn't underestimate the effect having "bandwagon" locals being able to experience playoff games too...

For tickets sold to the public, they need some Nathan For You like scheme where you can go into the CTC in person and have a 15 minute appointment where you bring enough evidence to verify that you are probably a Senators fan. Then they should give you a tamper proof bracelet and that should allow you to buy physical tickets in person at the box office.

Isn't taking a trip out to the CTC in person at non-game-time a pretty solid sign of one's commitment  /hj

Detroit and Columbus are 2 pts back of the Rangers with a game in hand.

assuming all regulation
If we win today.. we have 90 pts w 33RW
Columbus has 75pts in 76 games they can't catch us
Detroit winning out would have 91 pts 34RW
Rangers would have 91 38 RW

So, 2 wins - take your pick between two games against CBJ, and one each against Chicago, the Flyers, and a Carolina team likely resting everyone... I'm not gonna talk about the Habs game, ugh.

That's assuming the Rangers and Detroit both win their next games, btw. If they both lose and we win today then we lock in.

If the Detroit loses tonight and we win, it's only the Rangers we need to worry about tomorrow

There is realistically no chance Detroit catches us. Hopefully they beat Florida today.

Do we want to play Toronto or Tampa? Feels bad to cheer for Detroit, but maybe we should if we want to play Tampa.

From the NHL: (see 2)

Playoff Tie-Breaking Procedure

Tie-Breaking Procedure

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).

2. The greater number of games won, excluding games won in Overtime or by Shootout (i.e., 'Regulation Wins'). This figure is reflected in the RW column.
