I think the plan going forward should be to iron out the defensive issues and build out from that. We’re actually scoring, we’re getting offense from everywhere. If our offense takes a hit for a bit so what. You can loosen the reins later.

Just practice coverage without the puck and where everyone should be immediately after we reclaim it: those are the biggest bugaboos.

Probably but I feel like we’re playing worse now than we did late last year, despite being at least slightly better on paper.

I felt stupid for getting my hopes up a bit during this one. The last few seasons I feel like I should have placed a moneyline bet on whoever we're playing against when we get a multi-goal lead.

Petts has been a problem all year tbh. I never really thought very highly of the guy but the way he's playing tentatively and sorta shying away from contact areas makes me think he's just trying to make it through to the TDL healthy to be dealt and get that new contract.

I dunno. Not really a whole lot to super analyze after this one. We all thought they'd get smoked and they did. Bad roster that's terribly coached.

Yup. We're like Top 3 in High % giveaways (for two years) and we play shit defense like this and blame our goalies.

But I heard Mike Sullivan has some pretty good sentences...

You may or may not be right but I'm pretty sure Management and Coaches are still trying to make the playoffs. And I think we all agree that they're not gonna get there with poor goaltending. That's why I asked if they'd consider keeping Blomqvist around.

Just wanted to add to this again for Joel.

Joel should be up. There's no reason for him to be back in wbs at all. As far as I'm concerned the starter is Joel Blomqvist and Ned is 1B.

Jarry is playing awful and his time is done but he's a good lad and a good team mate with the support he shows both goalies especially how he showed Ned support last year when he played his way out of being a starter. I think he would do well in wbs to rebound and should be there. Also gives Dubas cap relief to make moves at the deadline to take on rental cap for picks.

But Blomqvist? Absolutely the starter, fantastic goalie with a massive upside and should get more games but paced so he can handle the new workload as a rookie.

That's pretty much the issue. These defensive breakdowns/inability to cover anyone/run around like they have no clue have been present for YEARS. It's not something that can be ironed out because it's SULLIVAN that's the issue.

If we want to truly iron out our defensive woes, get a new coach. That's steps 1 through 10 to improving the defensive structure.

Like every team gets turned around a bit defensively when they’re stuck in their zone. That’s just hockey.

The risky/sloppy line changes shouldn’t occur so often at this level. The d-pairings giving the puck away with the slightest hint of pressure shouldn’t happen so often. Our defense men should almost be in sync when they have some time and space. They should work in unison.

Instead they make sloppy passes back and forth to one another or they wait until the forechecker closes in on them and panic and give the puck away.

These guys aren’t 20. They’re veterans. It feels like there’s absolutely no attention to detail.

The defense is the worst it's ever been but let's not put these 3 guys on the same level. Ned at least kept us in the game until the 3rd period, with Jars the game is over in less than 10 minutes. Waive the guy already.

That's the thing - they are veterans and some of them have played elsewhere for a while in their careers and a lot of them have played better than this. So they're capable players.

When capable players start making mistakes with plays that are basic, there's soomething wrong with how they're being coached and told to play. You rarely see players drop off as much as they do as when they join the Pens under Sullivan's usage of them and how he wants them to play in his system. He rarely, if ever, gives a shit about what they were good at before they got here.

He will use them how he sees fit even if they're not the players to be used in those situations. This team can't keep overhauling this roster for an 8th season when this coach can't figure shit out. I've always said that the GMs get a ton of heat for not making this Sullivan's team.

The issue is they did and this is how he wants to use them and then everyone makes excuses for him that the players were always the problem.

Crosby is now sounding frustrated about his game.

But don't worry, tomorrow we'll read how Sullivan is a great coach that will rally this team and that they've let him down or some dumb shit.
