At the end of the day, Sutter can most definetly tell Dean he needs more skill in the line up, to call up a kid or two. Sutter has made stupid descions like not pulling the goalie sooner or shuffling the lines when needed, but he can't get all the blame. This all falls Dean and his damn loyalty to players.

Sure to some degree, but who goes in? Gaborik, Quick, McNabb, Purcell, and now Andreoff are injured. I'm sure we'll see Gravel, and depending on how injured Andreoff is, either Mersch or Kempe. He's already got Dowd and Forbort in there, Andreoff getting significant 3rd line time, etc...I'm not sure what other skill and youth injections are available that people are clamoring for, especially given we saw them in the preseason and most looked either in over their head or no better than anyone else in the lineup (save maybe Kempe, whose inconsistencies are well documented, and LaDue, who is per Rosen in after Gravel).

Back to back with key guys playing big minutes isn't ideal, tack on an injury or two and take into account we were playing chicago, its good it wasn't 10 nil.

I look forward to seeing how Gravel fits (assuming he does get the call up) How do you think the D pairings will line up?

I wonder if Sutter might try loading up Kopis line with Carter on the wing to try and encourage a bit of scoring for the next game. Geez I miss the good old days of rolling Kopi, Carter, Richards and Stoll down the middle with a bulletproof D.

No I agree and I see it that way too. I'm taking not much out of this game. I think last game was much more representative of 'typical' Kings, even the missed chances.

If Gravel comes up, I'm not sure what happens, to be honest--maybe Forbort or Gravel with Doughty, Muzzin/Martinez, Forbort or Gravel and Gilbert? Or Greene for experience although I don't want that.

Also, Hawks fans pointing out it's the best game they've played all season, echoing a few other times we've heard that, so

Hate to be a negative nancy, but Chicago could be playing their best game because we were the weakest competition they've faced so far

Sutter too. I can't see for the life of me how he continues to put King on the top two lines. He was awful the last 5 games with Kopitar and was worse with Carter tonight. Yes, I know our options are limited, but man, I'd rather see Clifford or just bring someone up and let them learn.

A lot of teams get their points via OT. 4-5 to close the month out is a lot better than we all expected once Quick went down. Arizona is 2-6.

I'm just talking about the extra point for winning after regulation. The Kings currently lead the league with 4, ahead of Vancouver with 3.

Plus, people are just using that narrative to cheapen the Kings' performance, like it's lucky that we get that point when really it's the other teams that have been lucky to have been facing ****ing league-worst goaltending those games to get a point vs. us.

The thing is that it happened last year too. Can't blame a lack of Quick for that, but I guess we can blame that on the lack of good defensemen. How many leads couldn't they hold last year?

Now they're still winning in OT, but are sitting at 0-5 in regulation. They were above .500 in regulation last year. They can't not miss both Quick and Gaborik, so their absence is a reason, not an excuse. But they couldn't hold a 3-0 lead at home against Vancouver last week, and had to go to OT to beat Nashville at home, in the 2nd of back to back games on the road for the Preds. With Vancouver and Nashville, you've got what is currently 2 of the 4 worst W/L regulation records in the league.

Again, missing Quick is obviously not a minor detail, the lack of defensemen last year isn't either, but the Kings sort of relying on their 3v3 OT success isn't new. And yeah, I think it does cheapen the Kings performance a little bit. It doesn't exist in the playoffs, and for a variety of reasons, the Kings haven't been able to get the job done much more than 50% of the time during the larger 60 minute sample size. Even with their great possession numbers. 34-33 in the regular season, and 1-4 in the playoffs, playing under the standard rules for 60 minute play.

He should be playing the "Schultz role"

Its hard to assess where the team/ top 6 is at while Gaborik is out of the lineup, his speed/ creativity was creating space for the other guys. You saw what effect Pearson had coming back.

If we can stay in the race we should get a nicely rested team just priming up for the playoffs. A rested Quick/ Gaborik/ Mcnabb could give us a hell of a jumpstart midseason. Then we could get Kempe and Mersch doing a King/Nolan.

The big question is who is Columbus going to gift us?

Tell me what was todays top6?
I am sorry to hurt your feelings by criticizing a bad on-ice product that was formed and is coached by an even worse performing off ice double.

You didn't hurt my feelings. You just conveniently disappear from the boards until they start losing, then you're on the cross.

The good news is if the Kings are totally out of it by the trade deadline they will have a golden opportunity to re-tool.

I agree with this. While all of us would rather the Kings make the playoffs and win another Cup, a re-tool is necessary if we are going to get there again. While I'm not advocating losing, the Kings are in a position where it may be there only choice so why not make the best of it? Sure, this isn't the best or deepest draft but if we can find a top six forward or top for D for the future, I won't see this season as a total loss if we miss the playoffs.

How do we find more skill for next game.

Brown - Kopitar - Carter
Pearson - Dowd - Toffoli
King - Lewis - Purcell
Clifford - Shore - Nolan

Forbert - Doughty
Muzzin - Martinez
Gravel - Gilbert

Play the top 2 lines 20 minutes a game each then pray for the best

At least we know we will have good representation down the middle with Kopitar, Carter and Dowd

We have a solid left defence with Muzz, Martinez, Gravel, Forbert and McNabb - even if we lose a Gravel, Forbert or McNabb left D should be a strength.

We have solid Goalies in Quick and whatever cheap back up works - this years injuries a fluke

We absolutely need young wingers not named Toffoli, Pearson, or Kempe and ones that don't need protection in the expansion draft

If someone in the know could sticky an " Expansion Draft" thread with players that don't need to be protected that would be cool.

Please don't start on King. I have no idea why he's still on the roster.

Agree. I would also target centers just because they can usually slot in at wing too while they develop. 5 years down the road we might need more depth there anyway.

I don't think there have been any "official" rules put out for the expansion draft so we're kind of in limbo until that gets finalized.

The Kings will be a bi-polar hockey team all season. They will win a few in a row and the fans will gloat then they will lose more than a few and the rest of the fans will tell the gloaters they're stupid. Welcome back to mediocrity.

The rules are very explicit. Not sure what you mean by this comment.
