Pleased with the overall game by the Canucks. I can't believe how competent Santorelli continues to look, and Kassian looked strong out there for the second game in a row. Big day for Vancouver sports. For the first time in the Caps existence, I'm excited about a Vancouver soccer game. Go Whitecaps!!!

you mean you weren't excited for the first ever playoff game for a canadian team in MLS history last year against LA?

Luongo wasn't great today, but he wasn't terrible either. He was having serious rebound control issues all game, and that cost us on their 3rd goal. On the flip-side, he salvaged us a point on the penalty shot, and was strong in the shootout.

We didn't win or lose on his effort tonight.

If there's one true negative to this game, the book is officially out on Luongo in the shootout:

1. Don't shoot
2. Deke
3. Score

I think he needs a little practice time taking dekes in a shootout.

Have we beat a team yet that has a winning record ?

We beat Calgary ;)

The Penguins are scary.

Only as concerning their ability to get refs on side. Shoot out skills will do Jack for them come playoffs. Maybe time for Gillis to pull some stunt and make known to league our lack of PP opportunities.

Other points:

-Hamhuis should never work the PP. No instincts in the offensive zone. Though I like the fact he started shooting late in the game

-Tanev is still scared shinolaless to get off a slapshot, or ANY shot, when the opportunity is there.

-Kesler needs to play smarter. I appreciate the effort but the iceQ is nearing Booth's, speaking of which:

-Booth is being invisible again, assist(?) notwithstanding

-/\ matters cuz the twins were clearly gassed in the 3rd period. Need that secondary scoring, 3rd and 4th won't produce with regularity.

-Schroeder officially "injury prone":help:?

-Kassian maybe the 3rd ranked forward on team in passing skills (good for him, but doesn't say much about others)

Regarding the defense:

Because Tanev continues to look fantastic and is showing he can handle top 4 minutes, I'd like to see Torts try these pairings out:

Edler - Tanev <-------Tanev is ready and can be the stay at home guy with Edler.
Garrison - Bieksa <----Garrison moves back to the left side where he's more comfortable. Resembles the old, effective Mitchell-Bieksa pairing.
Hamhuis - Stanton <---Hamhuis is struggling but when he inevitably improves he gives the 3rd pairing a top 2 d-man, which is a luxury.

Please stop.

This team could go 81-1, and after the 1 loss (and a bunch of the wins, too), you'd be proclaiming that the sky was falling and that this was a garbage team. It's tiring, it's a broken record, and it makes this board less enjoyable for everybody else.

I'm really tired of people blaming the refs.

Me too.

Love the kid (obvs).

I'm coming around. I'm a huge Coy Hogson fan so it's hard.

Scanning the thread, it seems to me, as a visitor, that you guys are pretty harsh on your team! Scorn for Hamhuis and Kessler? C'mon! That's a great team.

See you in January, and then, maybe, June? ;)

Sounds like a plan!

Yes, this fanbase is hard on the team. When you accomplish absolutely everything outside of win the Cup like the Canucks have the last several seasons, the standards are very high.
