Thank you, Brandon Dubinsky. Asked if this was a playoff atmosphere ... "You know, no. No. There’s no comparison to a playoff game. The fans were awesome. Our fans have been there with us all year. Especially in a time like this when we can’t give them the playoffs to come out and show the support they did was awesome. But playoffs are a special thing, especially in the National Hockey League. You’re never going to get that unless you’re there.""

Would so love to see the Pueinions not make the playoffs

They traded their first round to Edmonton......fuel on the fire

So...if Pens miss the playoffs and win the Draft Lotto, Edmonton gets to use the pick?

LET'S DO THAT!!!!

Of course, as a secondary option to us not winning the draft lotto.

Thats what i was saying last week when we were a point behind philly, they had like 17 OTL. If we had taken 10 of our 35 losses to OT we would be in the playoff race if not a wildcard spot.

On the otherhand, haven't we won most of our OT/SO's? Maybe those other teams just suck at SO and OT?

It would be funny if this happens. Edmonton gets another 1st overall pick along with most likely another top 4. But it would screw Columbus and all the other teams as each team would drop 1 spot back.

I think Pens still get in, but it'd be worth it. It doesn't matter now whether we're 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th. Such a scenario might work in our favor. Oilers might be open to trading their 2nd pick (likely 4th overall). So, might be a chance to move up..or maybe we can just trade away our pick for a role player, or trade down for more picks.

Just finished the dvr'd game. Hell yes, nice comeback. This is so much better than the past where guys were worried more about tee times than showing up to play.

Eff you Pens!

Finally (by my count)...the CBJ are .500. What a battle to get there!

Amazing...we are just two points ahead of Philly in the standings but have EIGHT more wins than them. EIGHT!!! The NHL point system is a freakin' joke!!! I hope Bettman knows not all NHL fans are sheep.

I followed 2 separate cars on the way home on I70 West. Both with Ohio plates , all occupants in Pens gear. I passed them both, blew my horn & flipped them off. Bandwagon asshats.

Hope you flipped them off an extra time for me :D

For some reason, this made me laugh way too hard.

One of the last CBJ games I saw in person was against Detroit. I'll never forget the announcing of the starting line-ups (the Nat was still filling up) ...

"Henrick Zetterberg..." a family of five obvious bandwagoning yuppies cheering like they had won the Stanley Cup with each name. Finally, on the third one, I started booing way louder than they were cheering ... before long a few other fans had joined in, and by the end of it, I got a big "awwww" from all of them as they were disappointed in not having their cheers heard.

I wish I had flipped them off. That would have made it complete ... they really reminded me of the Brady Bunch, and I know if would have been a big deal to them if I had. Oh well ... live and learn.

They have 82 of a possible 156 points. Which is >.500.

???? We also have 8 SO wins vs. 3 for Philly.

You may not be a sheep, but none of the point systems would put us higher than 5th in our division. AND, if the SO were scratched, then we'd actually drop to 6th in the division.

For the most part, it makes little difference the point system used, a few changes in seeding at most.

Currently there have been 2,340 games played in the NHL. Total points earned are 2,631, or 2.249 points per game. The Blue Jackets have played 78 games. To be at the average, they need to have 78 x 2.249 / 2 or 87.7 points. (Or just 2,631 / 30, assuming everyone has played the same number of games.)

So if one assumes .500 is getting half of the possible points, it will always be below average. Taking total wins minus all losses as a proxy for 0.500 is closer. But because Columbus has so few OT losses (the lowest in the NHL) they end up below the expected average of 87.7 points.

I hate the SO but that's an argument for another time. The unequal point system that awards two points to regulation games and three points to overtime games is what I am slamming. I am not arguing that we deserve to be in the playoffs just because we have eight more wins than Philly, I am emphasizing the joke that is the unequal point system.

That's the .500 that most people are using, but most teams are going to be above that because of the OT/Loser points. True .500, IMO, is having just as many wins as losses, which we now do.

I know...but why does it matter? If you take out the shootout, then we're worse than Philly, not better. I think people overestimate the impact that the SO has on the standings. As the link I provided shows, there's little difference. Currently, only Calgary gets bumped from the playoffs and San Jose gets in on 3 point system. Other than that, a couple teams swap seeds. It's not worth worrying over:

Current System Standings:

ATLANTIC: 1) MON 2) TB 3) DET 4) BOS
METRO: 1) NYR 2) WAS 3) NYI 4) PITT
CENTRAL: 1) NAS 2) STL 3) CHI 4) MIN
PACIFIC: 1) ANA 2) VAN 3) CAL 4) LA

3 Point System Standings:

ATLANTIC: 1) TB 2) MON 3) DET 4) BOS
WASHINGTON: 1) NYR 2) WAS 3) NYI 4) PIT
CENTRAL: 1) CHI 2) STL 3) NAS 4) MIN
PACIFIC: 1) ANA 2) VAN 3) LA 4) SJ

yeaahhhhh we just passed philly and are 2 points from passing colorado .... lets keep it going :shakehead ...... i hope jarmo can work some magic during the draft

I knew someone would eventually post this...
How about being happy about the fact that this team, when healthy, is pretty damn good. As well as setting a franchise record and beating those damn Penguins. The Jackets don't need a high pick to be good, and besides, unless you're picking top 3, you're not going to get a guy who will make an immediate impact. This team is passed that. This team is a winner NOW. Enough BS about these over-hyped prospects. No way we get McEichel anyway, so who cares?
I'd rather them trade the pick to get a player who will help us NOW, not in 3-5 years

Keep winning, Jackets. I'm proud of you guys.

Awesome game! This team.

Just want to point out that are nearly as many posts in today's GDT complaining about Pens running Bob as there are posts in the last GDT complaining about Boll playing. something to consider (but won't be)
