Walman plays the left side?
You are asking for 50 percent retention on both? What are you thinking for trade assets going back?
It certainly complicates things since SJ has no retention slots left.

AFAIK we were thought to have interest in Blackwood last year as well, but they waited for Skinner to turn it around and nothing came of it.

Package? I would think J. Skinner as a cap dump, a couple of picks & a prospect we don't want to give up. I sincerely doubt they would be looking to move S. Skinner, so I wouldn't be shocked to see Pickard end up in the deal or elsewhere.

oh so not retention slots j. skins has a nMC? They would like a '26 first + Beau Akey and of course will take Pickard back? Hmmmm
If Im a new GM not sure i would make this deal lol.
Not tryin to knock your idea but its a hard path to make the logistics work. There are other simple cheaper alternatives that likely are just as good or better.

I would consider getting a 2C so that McDrai can just play together.

Goalie, Top 4 D and 2C in that order of priority

Haha, I was realizing more as I was typing up the response it probably wouldn't be the best idea.

Definitely think that Blackwood will continue to be a consideration if our goalie situation continues to be a challenge, though.

Lets hope that Bowman is at least talking to Grier expressing possible interest while we figure out The D situation, and the possible other alternatives to Blackwood. If Grier decides to move Blackwood then at least we would have notice of negotiations. From a timing point of view getting the right D for the right price gives whatever goalie we bring in now or eventually a better shot.
Besides the possibility of third party retention increase as teams fall out of the playoff race ....so end of January would be 'easier'.

Blackwood's inconsistency was his trade mark. Last two games 44 shot shutout....and against detroit 4 goals let in on twenty shots.

I just dont see it. Why would you pay Draisaitl a stupid amount of money to be a winger long term? You aren't going to get to the value playing him there. If you put him as the RW, Henrique or RNH would become your 2C. I think that's why the Oilers originally targeted Henrique to have that flexibility.

You could look to replace the 2C from outside the organization, but it would cost a fortune and I don't know how you make that cap work. You might as well continue to look and find wingers because centers cost a premium.

The way Bob said it, it sounded like it's someone who plays the side but can play the right. He also said something about them looking for a guy who can move the puck and not on the radar.

To me, that removes all the RHD (Jokiharju, Carlo, Zub, Pulock, Ristolainen and Jiricek)

Watch it be like TJ Brodie at 50% from Chicago.

I wonder what Byram would cost out of Buffalo. He can play both sides and would be an incredible addition to the Oilers.

I know he's having a rough year but I think TJ Brodie is still a better player than Cody Ceci for sure and he has a good first pass.

Brodie hasn’t been good for a while now

I mean he was +17 in Toronto a year ago. He'd also be cost controlled for an extra year (esp good if you can get some retention), unlike options like Provorov and Petterson where you're gonna have to pay a massive increase next year while also trying to accommodate Draisaitl and Bouchard's raises, a player like Provorov may just simply have his eyes set on a Florida team like many Russians do.

I don't think our D is that big of a problem, even the central issue of "who plays with Nurse" I think may have already been answered. He was playing great with Kulak, so why spend a huge amount on players that you have no idea if they will be any better than Kulak in that role. Nurse is a weird, finnicky player, he plays well with certain guys, not everyone.

Ekholm Bouchard
Kulak Nurse
Brodie Emberson

I'm pretty sure is better than the d-corps the Oilers went into the playoffs with last year. Ceci was incredibly toxic to Nurse's game, almost cost us the Vancouver series.

City of Champions
Just looking at the age of the bottom 6 on this team....

Henrique - 35 (by the end of the regular season)
Janmark - 32 (by the end of the regular season)
Ryan - 38 (by the end of the regular season)
J Skinner - 33 (by the end of the regular season)
Brown - 31 (by the end of the regular season)
Perry - 40 (by the end of the season)

The average age (on lines 3 and 4) for the start of the playoffs will be 35 years old.

Anyone else see this as a potential probelm?
One if not both of Ryan and Perry won’t be regulars in the lineup come playoff time so I’d have very little concern about that.

I think McKenize Blackwood honestly would be the best add the Oilers can make in terms of actual impact on wins/losses.

He's been above water for GSAA despite playing on pretty bad rebuilding San Jose teams and his athleticism is off the charts.

Behind good team structure, he could be a goalie that gets hot and Blackwood-Skinner could be a good tandem.
