Marner isn't coming to Detroit. If he did want to then Yzerman will pay him. He isn't get 15 million from anybody in my opinion... depending where he wants to go 12 to 13.5 is my prediction.
And this is why I’m still in on Yzerman. I don’t really care about players he’s been signing the last handful of years because they’re irrelevant to the long term plan here. The best players on this team are either his picks/Cat. And the prospects are looking good while they develop. Up until this season, we had seen linear progression. Every team that rebuilds has setbacks that they then need to overcome. The Wings did it in the 90’s losing to SJ, NJ, and Colorado before cashing in.
I do not care about division titles, nor do I care about squeaking in the playoffs to get curb stomped in rd 1. I care about championships. Marner and Matthews have not delivered and frankly haven't even gotten close. And that is partly because their scoring dries up when the going gets rough. The results speak for itself. I have no time for pointing fingers at goalies or defensemen and making excuses for the players up front, when you are paying your forwards 70% of the cap and 50% to four forwards.Right… Marner and Matthew’s suck.
Leafs are probably winning the division because of Joseph Will and Chris Tanev.
Outside of 2002 Cup winning squad - our 1997 and 1998 teams were made of smart draft picks, savvy trades, and a few key free agent signings. In the last 6 years including this one Detroit has finished 8th, 7th, 6th, 7th, 5th and 6th. That is not progression that is absolutely pathetic.
Comparing the current Wings to the 90s Wings couldn't be more far off. The Wings in the 90s were constantly one of the best teams in the NHL. They had 2 bad years and then every year had well over 90 points most year had 100 plus points.
You don't care about those signings eh. Those terrible signings and trades have cost the Wings the playoffs for a second year in a row.
Sure, but there’s no actual credible source saying we would have taken Stutzle. And Yzerman has shown he's more than willing to draft who he likes, not necessarily the consensus pick. I think Stutzle is more an Yzerman pick than Laf, and just plugging in whoever was picked 1st isn't necessarily who the Wings would have taken.
Maybe. I prefer the center just because of the position but hard to go wrong with either guy.
Same things were said about Yzerman and Fedorov throughout the mid 90’s. Too soft. Regular season type players. Who cares about winning the division.I do not care about division titles, nor do I care about squeaking in the playoffs to get curb stomped in rd 1. I care about championships. Based on….?Wings were for sure taking Stutzle at #1 if they got that pick. No question.
Sign me upHow about...
Provorov/Gavrikov - Mo
Edvinsson - Walker
AlJo - ASP
Gustafsson
Trade Chiarot
Revamp the entire D how though… have you seen the UFA D available?Gifted, you are right. But he is not successful. He would certainly help getting us to the dance, but when there he disappears with some bat-faced girl under the bleechers and is MIA. No interest, especially at 13mil or more. With that money you can revamp the entire defense.
Pretty sure Vernon got there in 94. The glue or missing peace was Shanahan btw.Same things were said about Yzerman and Fedorov throughout the mid 90’s. Too soft. Regular season type players. Who cares about winning the division.
Until they got goalies and started winning championships (When Yzerman was 30+ years old)
Positional need, friendship with our defense cornerstone drafted a year prior, Steve Yzerman rarely takes a consensus pick.Based on….?
When has a unanimous #1 pick among all polled scouts and scouting services not gone 1st?
Well he certainly won't grace us with his presence with that attitudeMarner isn't coming to Detroit. If he did want to then Yzerman will pay him. He isn't get 15 million from anybody in my opinion... depending where he wants to go 12 to 13.5 is my prediction.
It was Murphy and his hot dogs.Pretty sure Vernon got there in 94. The glue or missing peace was Shanahan btw.
Depends on how much change you want and how quickly. We agree on ASP making this team? Then I think you get 1 dman (Provorov or Gavrikov) in UFA and acquire another via trade. Ship out Chiarot in that case.Revamp the entire D how though… have you seen the UFA D available?
No one drafts a player because they’re friends with someonePositional need, friendship with our defense cornerstone drafted a year prior, Steve Yzerman rarely takes a consensus pick.
Or the arrival of Craig Janney's wife in Detroit, powered by Big Dick Energy á la Irishman.⁸

They had more points in 20-21 than 19-20, more points in 21-22 than 20-21, more points in 22-23 than 21-22, etc. If you were to put that on a graph, it would make an ascending straight line from left to right. In the last 6 years including this one Detroit has finished 8th, 7th, 6th, 7th, 5th and 6th. That is not progression that is absolutely pathetic.

And I’m making that comparison to show even with CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER teams, there are still setbacks. Why wouldn’t there also be setbacks with a team that’s in the thick of a rebuild?
No, I couldn’t care less about Yzerman’s free agent signings at this stage. He has to ice a team, he needs to sometimes bring in players that aren’t just AHL level talent to do so. Compher, Copp, Tarasenko, Holl, Talbot, etc. will not be on this team when they have championship aspirations. Now, if in 4 years he’s signing bleh players, I’ll have an issue with it. This team doesn’t even have their goalie yet. Yzerman isn’t going to give a hoot about this team just making the playoffs before Cossa (I think Augustine will be the better goalie) is the full time starter in net.
I think this rebuild is on the timeline that it takes for drafted goalies to become NHL players. I actually think it’s really obvious. Unfortunately for the impatient, most goalies take a while to develop.

Guarantee ASP will start in GR, absolutely patheticAh yes a nice point progression when they have finished 5th once in the last 6 years what amazing progress.
Serious question do you work for the government? You sound like you would be amazing at it. We are year 6 in the project and well we put the footings in but that's about it. But don't worry the structure will be built soon!
Cossa is now blocked by the amazing Mrazek and Augustine went back to college because they didn't have room for him in GR. We might have a starting goalie in what 2-4 years of Yzerman doesn't sign anymore bums to block them.
The way Yzerman signs players they won't make the playoffs next year either.
ill be the first to dunk on myself if im wrong but im 90% certain it will be 14x8 from the leafs if he stays there or 15+x7 if he signs as a UFA assuming he signs for max term.Marner isn't coming to Detroit.
