Won't be able to watch beyond the first period tonight, so if they suck in the 1st and then turn it around in the 2nd and 3rd we will know it's because of me.

Go Jackets!!

I don't have a good feeling about tonight. Why? I don't know. We haven't played very well when we've really needed to win a game, save Detroit last week.

Why? I think you know; you mentioned it - although I think your a little off your analysis. They haven't given fans much of a reason to be filled with confidence. We've won when we've needed a win; we just haven't been able to beat any of the elite teams or, in this case, a team that is making a case to be included in with the elite teams.

If your playing like a wildcard quality team; you shouldn't have much confidence going in and playing a borderline elite team playing their best hockey of the year. Even at home. It's going to take everything we have to pull this one out. Well that or Mason handing us the game.

I hate Giroux and, to a lesser extent, Simmonds. The latest in a long line of Jackets killers.

All I know is that, this year aside, this is going to be a tough division moving forward. Tougher than the Atlantic. The Islanders are making a push to get every team in our division at 82 points or more. They should fall short, but there are only 2 divisions with this little of separation.

Anybody read this article on Mason on NHL.com? Some pretty damning quotes about his time with the CBJ. Glad we wasted those years of progress with a guy who clearly didn't want to be here.

"When one thing goes wrong and another, it's a snowball effect where it gets to the point where you're trying so hard to recover you're spinning your tires and not going anywhere," he said. "It was an extremely difficult and humbling and depressing time all mixed into one long couple years there."

Flyers forward Jakub Voracek, who had been a teammate of Mason's in Columbus, noticed the change immediately.

"Right away when he got traded you could see the fire in his eyes," Voracek said. "When I saw him the first time [with the Flyers], it was like he got released from prison. He was excited to play hockey."

"A lot of me feeling better was [Reese] expressing confidence from him and the coaching staff and the management here in me," Mason said. "That's not something I felt for a long time. For an organization of this magnitude to come in and say we believe in you after the couple years I had struggled said a lot to me personally."

"The biggest thing was for him to get out of Columbus," Reese said. "This guy always had the talent, he always had skill, he can move well for a big guy, very athletic, handles the puck, has a great glove hand. You knew there was something there. That's the biggest difference, him getting out of there and getting to a new place where people believed in him again."

"It's been pretty much an entire year since I've been here," Mason said. "I've enjoyed every second of it. It's nice to be back having fun playing hockey, being part of an organization that has such a rich history and an organization you're proud to be part of. When you're having fun, time goes by even quicker."

IMO, Mason belongs in the same camp as Carter - someone who didn't outright demand a trade, but hurt us in a far worse way - letting their on-ice malaise become such an issue that we're forced to move them. Again, I'm not mad that we got Bobrovsky as an indirect result, but still hate that we wasted time with a malcontent headcase in goal for way too many games.

Nothing surprised me there, it was a pretty toxic club to play for at the time. I would be surprised if any player on the team didn't have a difficult, humbling, depressing time especially in 11-12. I know it was that kind of time for me as a fan. Good for him that he's moved on and everything, but coming out and saying all these things now seems a little immature. Then again, if he was asked the questions I guess he has the right to answer them how he pleases.

For him to complain about no one having confidence in him for a long time here in Columbus, it's not like we as fans and they as management didn't have reason for having such a lack of confidence. It's not management's fault that he started sucking hard for such a long period of time. This is professional sports, did he really expect them not to seek another option when he was letting in 4-5 goals per night?

Whatever, glad it's over with him and the sides have moved on, but I'm sure other players in the league have undergone similar challenges and haven't made a big deal about it in the media. Hope we light him up tonight.

Not to mention he started 61, 58, 54, and 46 games in his first 4 years here, with a contract extension mixed in for good measure. How on earth did that exhibit a lack of confidence from the coaching staff and front office? We even hired his butt-buddy goalie coach from junior to give him a shoulder to cry on and try to heal his fragile psyche. Don't get this guy.

Bob's already gone after Nash....Here's hoping for some goalie-on-goalie violence:naughty:

Sometimes its better not to try to get inside the head of a crazy person. I knew goalies could be fruity but yeesh...

Not seeing much that is damning.

I'm glad for Steve. He was in a bad place (some his fault and some was the teams) and now seems to have grown up a little and found somewhere that he fits.

There's a reason why a crazy guy like Pronger wouldn't trust goalies with his kids.

Not many normal tenders out there... it's a bad sign when guys like Price and Luongo seem the most sane of the bunch.

Now a good time to get into his head:nod:

Just think when he has a slump...he'll be crucified in Philly...not as forgiving place as Columbus.

Too be fair he has already had a decent sized slump earlier and he was not crucified for it. The difference between him and bryz when they were playing bad, was that Bryz would do okay, but let in a ton of awful goals, Mason does not let in "bad" goals very often.

I don't read it as an anti-CBJ thing. He just needed a change in scenery. We all knew this.

Hopefully the boys work hard tonight. It's a good test of character who shows up after you lose one on luck.

I read it the same way you did. The writer infers Columbus was a crappy franchise, that's why Steve Mason sucked before he came to Philadelphia. OK, what does that say about Bobrovsky?!?

Yeah, and I thought the shot at the end about now playing for a franchise "with rich history that you're proud to play for" was particularly galling. Not having pride in the crest of the team you're playing for makes you a scum bag in my book, but that's me.

That was EXACTLY the one comment that offended me.

Quotes did all the work, Kimmelman didn't say much. And really "He needed to be somewhere where people believed in him." I agree! I didn't believe in him and neither did you. Of course he needed a fresh start.
