I don't have a good feeling about tonight. Why? I don't know. We haven't played very well when we've really needed to win a game, save Detroit last week.
Mase's glove was getting props from Pierre McGuire during the Boston-Philly game recently.
"When one thing goes wrong and another, it's a snowball effect where it gets to the point where you're trying so hard to recover you're spinning your tires and not going anywhere," he said. "It was an extremely difficult and humbling and depressing time all mixed into one long couple years there."
Flyers forward Jakub Voracek, who had been a teammate of Mason's in Columbus, noticed the change immediately.
"Right away when he got traded you could see the fire in his eyes," Voracek said. "When I saw him the first time [with the Flyers], it was like he got released from prison. He was excited to play hockey."
"A lot of me feeling better was [Reese] expressing confidence from him and the coaching staff and the management here in me," Mason said. "That's not something I felt for a long time. For an organization of this magnitude to come in and say we believe in you after the couple years I had struggled said a lot to me personally."
"The biggest thing was for him to get out of Columbus," Reese said. "This guy always had the talent, he always had skill, he can move well for a big guy, very athletic, handles the puck, has a great glove hand. You knew there was something there. That's the biggest difference, him getting out of there and getting to a new place where people believed in him again."
"It's been pretty much an entire year since I've been here," Mason said. "I've enjoyed every second of it. It's nice to be back having fun playing hockey, being part of an organization that has such a rich history and an organization you're proud to be part of. When you're having fun, time goes by even quicker."
Anybody read this article on Mason on NHL.com? Some pretty damning quotes about his time with the CBJ.

For him to complain about no one having confidence in him for a long time here in Columbus, it's not like we as fans and they as management didn't have reason for having such a lack of confidence. It's not management's fault that he started sucking hard for such a long period of time. This is professional sports, did he really expect them not to seek another option when he was letting in 4-5 goals per night.
IMO, Mason belongs in the same camp as Carter - someone who didn't outright demand a trade, but hurt us in a far worse way - letting their on-ice malaise become such an issue that we're forced to move them. Again, I'm not mad that we got Bobrovsky as an indirect result, but still hate that we wasted time with a malcontent headcase in goal for way too many games.
Not to mention he started 61, 58, 54, and 46 games in his first 4 years here, with a contract extension mixed in for good measure. How on earth did that exhibit a lack of confidence from the coaching staff and front office? We even hired his butt-buddy goalie coach from junior to give him a shoulder to cry on and try to heal his fragile psyche. Don't get this guy.
Sometimes its better not to try to get inside the head of a crazy person. I knew goalies could be fruity but yeesh...

Now a good time to get into his head
Just think when he has a slump...he'll be crucified in Philly...not as forgiving place as Columbus.
Schultz-Savard
This paring should be good for 2 goals against. please prove me wrong!
Too be fair he has already had a decent sized slump earlier and he was not crucified for it. The difference between him and bryz when they were playing bad, was that Bryz would do okay, but let in a ton of awful goals, Mason does not let in "bad" goals very often.

I don't read it as an anti-CBJ thing. He just needed a change in scenery. We all knew this.
We read it differently then.
I read it the same way you did. The writer infers Columbus was a crappy franchise, that's why Steve Mason sucked before he came to Philadelphia. OK, what does that say about Bobrovsky?!?
Yeah, and I thought the shot at the end about now playing for a franchise "with rich history that you're proud to play for" was particularly galling. Not having pride in the crest of the team you're playing for makes you a scum bag in my book, but that's me.
