I really think AK's performance was kind of a wake up call for Rask as to what is really needed to get to the post season.

No more cruise control games. You have to lay it all out on the line each and every game.

HUGE, HUGE, HUGE Win for the Bruins especially with Tampa Bay, N.Y. Islanders, Carolina and to some degree possibly Philadelphia all pushing for the playoffs. Would love the Bruins to overtake Toronto for 3rd in the Atlantic and let those other teams fight out for the last wild card spot. Have to keep it going and win the next two for sure against Dallas and Florida, because the last 4 games are tough ones. Once again we play back to back and this time against Chicago. Rask needs more outings like that, because he had been pretty bad the few games before.

next to the bench
I'll be interested to see the responses from the "it's all in his head; he's a headcase" Internet psychologists here if it turns out to be something that requires post-season surgery.

Most net minders are a bit of a head case ...but Tuukka looked like he was playing hurt to me...and when he comes to the bench during breaks in the play we see him up close.

He has played very well for much of this season. I hope he will be OK.

Rask was slow to get up after heavy pressure on his net with 4:23 to play. “Cramped up,†he explained. Once on his feet, Rask slowly made his way to the bench and rehydrated while the maintenance crew cleaned the ice.

But Rask took his bruises as well. At 14:23 of the third, with a push from Brandon Carlo, Kevin Fiala cut through the crease and knocked Rask to the ice. Rask got up, shook off the hit, and refused to show any sign of discomfort. With the score 2-1, Rask had no intentions of having a concussion spotter direct him to the quiet room.

A goalie unwilling to play in big moments would not have done the same.

“What can you do? You can’t do anything about it,†Rask said. “I’m not staying home because I want to stay home. I’m not playing because I don’t want to play. I don’t think any athlete ever does that. Obviously what’s happened in past years, I missed a game and people bring that up and talk about it.â€

Rask has his haters. He showed them he’s ready for a fight.

Watching that but of a brawl at the end was rather sad by Nashville. They initiated it all when Miller was the only remotely tough Bruin on the ice.

That said, Claude never had an issue predicting something like this and would have had McQuaid and Backes out there as well. Hopefully Cassidy learned.

Exactly.....competent defensive play.

Actually, it was more of a wake up call to Cassidy.

This exactly

Those dumping on Rask need to ease off, its disrespectful and unkind - solely for the reason that he's been playing through an injury the entire season and is on pace to play more games than any goalie really should.

I totally agree he needs to be better overall (he gives up softies even when healthy) and I'm not a fan of the attitude he displays towards teammates (although this is speculation) but at the end of he day he's a highly talented athelete doing what no one on this board ever could (expect purpleshamrock ) and he's doing it while not 100%

What? I hope you aren't serious. Need to ease off a goalie making $7 million when he's not playing well. So what if he is playing through an injury. I am expected to come to work when not at 100%. Obviously, I couldn't do what he does but I am not getting paid to be a professional goalie.

FWIW I think Rask had a good game last night, not taking anything away from him. The simple fact is that when you get paid that much expectation are high and rightfully so.

Yes I'm sure the first quality/non-dreadful start from a backup 90% into the season really put the fear of god in him.

Like I said, to make the playoffs we are going to need Bergeron to score some goals. He did score last night, and that's why we won.

Last four are going to be very interesting for both teams if the points are this close. Leafs also have a brutal last 4 with 3 being pit, cbj and wash and one of them being back to back.

And I think we as a society should shift away from that, but that's a different topic for a different day.

His salary is irrelevant, you don't pay someone more and say "you know this know means we expect you to put your health and long term playing ability at risk right?"

And in any case, Rask has been playing through an injury, its all entirely possible that it got aggravated enough that he knew he'd not only be a detriment to the team winning, but it would put his ability to play in games there after at risk.

If a player slumps and isn't injured and they're paid the big bucks, that's one thing, pile on that player until you're keyboard has no more keys.

Very much agree with this.

Been an overall big fan with the changes I've seen in this team under Cassidy, but watching the Lightning game last week was rather horrifying given the defensive showing.

You can't win with defensive structure like that in the playoffs. The difference between the defensive part of the game last night, as compared with last Thursday, was truly night and day.

Eat that haters.

Eat what ? I will have a nice steak in the off season when he and his excuses are shipped out of town.

Lets see him put together maybe two good games in a row ? Bottom of the barrel in save % in the league for the last few years .ONE game where his teammates made more saves than he did proves zero.

I hope he plays his *** off for the remainder of this season but Im not counting on it. Neither should anyone one else.

He is what he is
