Man, Matheson has really been an adventure every shift lately.

Fans on this board will say he's a scapegoat or whipping boy, but when he was playing well a few weeks ago, we all noticed it, mentioned it, and he had a lot more rope when making his usual mistake here and there. But the guy has been absolutely terrible during the losing streak and 100% deserves the criticism he's been getting.

Agreed. He clearly outplayed Allen last year. Primeau was awful this season and couldn't spell him off. Dobes doesn't even know where his net is these days.

No it’s not.

We should improve by virtue of Reinbacher over Savard. That will make a huge difference. Hopefully we add another guy in the right as well.

Center is the single biggest priority right now.

Montembault is not our long term solution. He’s a bridge for Fowler and Dobes. He’s good enough for now but we MUST improve the D in front of him.

What a shame we only have handful of players who really understand no only what must win hockey is but how to play it. The stupidity of certain players when it comes to situational play is mind boggling.

Matheson makes 4.8m a year and we play him like he's prime Scott Niedermayer.

Montembault makes 3.1m a year and we're going to play him in 60+ games like he's Shesterkin.

Allen is a top end backup and weve all seen how much of a sieve he was for us.

Jake Allen has elite number when limited to <36GP - if he plays more his performance falls off a cliff.

Diekembe seems best suited for 42-45GP tandem G

While I share your optimism for improvement with Demi coming over, this Habs team has way more room for improvement by keeping pucks out of our own net. A quick look at the standings says that to have comparable GF, GA to the top teams we need to score 10-15 more and keep 50(!) more out of our own net.
We need to figure out if it is our system, our players, C, or D or the goalies and get that fixed. There is no feasible way to outscore that.

Helleybuyck, Vasilievksi, Oettinger, Thompson, Bobrovsky, Sorokin, Shesterkin (despite the tough year), Markstrom, who else?
