Playing Stanley over Samberg (even Miller) is a head scratcher... Not looking forward to McDavid burning past him tonight.

"If the Jets coaches don't do what I think they should do, I refuse to enjoy watching the team play"

Go find a team who uses their players the way you think they should and cheer for them

Fack
It's not easy watching insanity.

My over-under for shots allowed is 35

I would take the over on this ... in the two meetings against the Oilers the Jets have allowed 39 and 40 shots. The last 3 Isles, Devils and Rangers games rank 7th, 3rd and 2nd worst for the Jets on the season in terms of shots allowed. They are already porous and usually Oilers pump them pretty good, so 35 is an easy over for me. I set the line at 39.

Lots of concern about Stanley in over Samberg, and I think we would all prefer Samberg in for Stanley, but are people certain Samberg isn't nursing something and they are giving him a bit of load management down the stretch? He has been out a few times lately. Post TDL there are no roster limits, so there is no need to put a player on IR to bring in a replacement since they are running with a 25 man roster. And there is certainly no need to announce an nagging injury to the world.

Post away and don't give up.
Just remember, the coach cares deeply just not about the numbers, so don't take that personally. That's the way of the (HF) world.

".... a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest"

Great song but do we really think Bowness reads HF boards to look for posts from us here for the numbers? And i would just venture a guess he has all of these numbers. I look at it as we aren't in the dressing room and around the team everyday to know why he makes the decisions he does but one thing i'm pretty sure is he isn't trying to lose games he's trying to win. :thumbu:

These guys draw a lot of penalties - McD is untouchable, and his sidekick loves to bait you into dumb penalties.
I think the Jets show up for this one but will need to limit penalties -
I really dislike the oil - please give them a beating.
My disdain for the Oilers supersedes even the disdain I feel for the Leafs.

McDavid will no longer whine about calls not made as he debuts a new look tonight

Of course he has no need to look to HF for the numbers, as they are from well-established sources. I just don't think he places much weight on them, and relies on his experience instead. As Stumbledore correctly implied a few posts back, at a certain age most people are set in their ways.

I don't think any team would use data sources available to the public, they would all have their own internal proprietary numbers to rely on. There is no way to know to what extent Bones uses them, but he certainly wouldn't be oblivious to them.

Agree, we have no way of knowing for sure and the Jets certainly have a analytics department that advises Bones on these things. Having said that, I stand by my opinion that Bones, being Bones, at age 69, for all his strengths--and he has many--is less likely to learn newer coaching approaches informed by newer data synthesis.
Now I'm curious--I know that you have mentioned on occasion that you are retired but worked for years in large organizations. Did you not experience that curve of new information synthesis and adaptation that turns south after 40 years, even in the best managers?

Not sure I'm the best person to ask that question of, as I always pushed innovation and following best known practices late into my career. My experience was those in higher leadership positions knew the importance of embracing change. Again in my experience, those most opposed to change had carved a place in the middle somewhere and never wanted the boat to rock for fear of loosing their grip. They were the biggest gate keepers. I will also add that so much of the information used to make decisions at one level had to be filtered for consumption at lower levels.

Bones and some common sense back behind the bench!

Good news on Volare!

Perfetan riding a one goal streak!

Helly needs to play like himself instead of Pavelec like he has the last 3-4 starts!
Some of the lineup decisions reek of panic mode. Unless Samberg is nursing something he is better than Stanley in every facet of the game with the exception of his shot.

And if the coaching staff is wanting to do some load management why would the 3rdpairing guys always be the ones rotated out. Pionk should really be taken out for a couple games-Dillon got a "rest" with his laughable suspension. I can see 44 and 2 not coming out but the only way Pionk should be untouchable in the lineup is if he suddenly channelled Robert Gordon Orr which is a bigger pipe dream than the Jets winning the Cup.

And it seems Helle is going to be trotted out until we win again so we may completely burn him out before the playoffs even start.

I'll say that if the Jets win this game it will be the 3rd and 4th lines winning it for us, inspite of the play of the top 2 lines.

I also predict KFC will think he's outside in the cold wind of spring lol, by the number of times a Coiler blows right past him on the way in for a high danger chance.

Samberg has to be nicked up, nothing in his play warrants him being taken out of the lineup twice in the last few weeks.
Agreed, that was my first thought as well. And at this time of year with expanded rosters, you can be very quiet with it as you aren't forced to place players on IR to bring in replacements.

With this team, its not the nicks and bruises that we need to worry about. Its the bugs going around that take guys down.
For the most part the bugs have probably taken it's course thru the team, at this point of the season players on all teams are beat up and the best remedy is some time off especially heading into the playoffs
