Interesting...My theory is DavidLeinen doesn't want Atkinson and Umby around.

I mean why in the hell would you scratch leading goal scorers that have never been scratched before....IN A PLAYOFF PUSH.

Then again...why not wait until after the year is done then dump them.

Or WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON!!!!!!!

Either way. Richards will be the fall guy. Either because:

He's a Pejorative Slur

Or he's being pressured by some other Pejorative Slur (Jarmo) to do this.

Good point, they only gave Atkinson an extension, what, 7 months ago? You should really choose a different descriptive word, you come across as very ignorant.

If you wouldn't even show up if you had tickets, then I sure hope that means you're done posting here as well.

11 games left, anything can happen. This team's been hot and cold all year. Things could just as easily turn around hot as they went cold.

I recall many of the same people giving up are ones that thought Philly was dead with their schedule as well. This team has a tendency to play to the level of competition. Many of the remaining records discussed involved 3-5 losses. So they had one today. Sure, this is one they had to have because it was 'easy' but since we've been in the Islanders position more times than we'd all like, I think we'd understand that today wasn't going to be easy.

The road ahead just got a little tougher, but I'm still convinced this is going to go down to the Florida trip. Sorry to be such a wet blanket on the pity party in here.
I was being sarcastic.

This:handclap:

Everybody avoids talking about it; but Horton has been really bad, untimely penalties;not finishing checks; no offensive production....

Uhm, have you been reading the past like 10 GDT's? Everyone's been talking about it.

Seems like every time I bring it up somebody jumps to the guys defense. Other targets seem to attract more attention.

I think the crowd has slowly come around. I know I was making excuses for him for a while. I really thought something would click and he would start putting it together but I was wrong.

Horton looks spectacularly bad.

I'm w/ ya, sadly.

I'm not a big fan of sitting veterans down the stretch in favor of what we realistically have to replace them. I didn't like Umbergers scratch. But I mean...I'm just sayin...no way he's been better than Umby since returning from injury.

For me it's pretty tough to justify taking out the leading PP scorer midst PP struggles and not bench Horton.

Am I way off?

Throw Dmac up a line and put Boller on the 4th? :sarcasm::)

Ignorant?? Then why would we scratch our second leading goal scorer THREE consecutive times? I get once against a physical Western conference team but he can't play against Carolina? cmon. Plenty of guys get extensions and are then moved. Makes them easier to trade (see Jeff Carter in Philly).

It was nothing to do with the point made, it was the wording.

Some people are suggesting Horton should be a healthy scratch with the way he is playing. Do you think Richards has the guts do make him a healthy a scratch or would he be afraid to do that? Maybe Richards wants to but is afraid that this would piss off upper management. Horton was JD/Jarmo's big off season move and to make him a healthy scratch during the playoff run might make JD/Jarmo look bad?? Now you might say, who cares if it pisses off the management, do what's best for the team but if he were to do that and they miss the playoffs. Richards might feel his ass could be on the line and could use Horton being a scratch as one of the reasons they fire him.

At most, bench Horton(they've done it to Johansen) for a long time. Demote him to the 4th line during a game if need be. Take away his PP time. First Atkinson(3rd leading goal scorer) and then Umberger(PP goal leader, veteran)was healthy scratch and now Horton is on the hot seat. Maybe that sends a message? If your aren't pulling your weight, no matter who you are, you're not going to play down the stretch.

Yeah the whole board is pretty much in unison now that Horton has been execrable. He's been so bad, the thing I'm worried about is his health and the fact that his coach or GM hasn't said anything about it publicly. Tell us he's dealing with something, tell us he's trying to get used to his new shoulder and a new way to stickhandle and use his body. Whatever it is, I would like to know, because at this point it's far too easy to imagine that the GM is protecting his guy, the Coach doesn't want to risk ticking off the GM, and the young team doesn't want to say anything about a guy who is supposed to be their elder leader.

I just got around to watching the nhl.tv recap and didn't see the game, so I obviously can't say much about my understanding of our game, but I know the problem with our 5 on 5 scoring is downstream. Our possession isn't horrid, there are chances from close in. Atkinson and Umberger both had multiple great chances in this game. Empty nets where the puck either bounces or was just shoveled into the goalie. With just average execution that's at least a couple goals.

Edit: Just watched TSN's Jamie Mclennan say pretty much the same thing, lack of execution and Nabokov stole it.

Even worse. You know it's really bad when the entire board is in unison.

I counted maybe one good scoring chance. No odd man rushes, no breakaways, no crisp stretch passes, no shots from point that were close, no greasy rebound opportunities that were close, the power play sucked, the forecheck sucked.

Nabakov didn't "steal anything."

Agreed. Despite the shot total, there were few quality chances (the save on Atkinson is the only one that stands out to me). Whereas Khudobin was sharp in the CAR game on tues and Price was outstanding in MTL Thurs...We made it relatively easy on Nabokov yesterday

Yeah the Nabokov thing is Mclennan's words, not mine.

But seriously next time remind me not to listen to your game recaps. There were several odd man rushes. You also don't know how to count scoring chances. Several good scoring chances jump out: Cam's deke and shot from wide right, the flurry in the last minute where the puck bounced and Cam missed knocking it into an empty net, the play where the rebound fell into the crease and Nabokov was off balance and Umberger didn't lift it enough.

You confusing us with Isles (regarding scoring chances) major? We hardly had anything at all. The 3 you referenced above were the ONLY three lol.

Okay next time you write none or one I'll remember you mean 3 or so.

And the next time you write "several" jump out of the "top of your head" it means paltry three. Like a decent scoring chance per period.

The offensive performance was beyond lousy, both in scoring chances and production. There was almost zero of that.
