GDT: Game #70 - Kraken @ Oilers - 8PM - All Decks On Hand

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I don't follow the exact placement of players in the flow of a game so much, but I'd have to guess that if Skinner isn't getting the opportunities he appears to deserve, it's likely that he isn't committing to his role in the team's systems. A player scoring goals doesn't mean he's doing all the other little things, and it undermines the whole team to allow exceptions. Also, in playoffs, anyone not committing fully will be your downfall. In the regular season you can get away with it.

I don't know if that's the reason, but it at least makes sense. Knoblauch is more knowledgeable about hockey decisions like this than anyone here.

It's also possible that against this opponent maybe spreading out talent is the right call. What would matter is how these lines are used.
Coaches aren’t perfect. Maybe he’s just stubborn and not making the right decision.

He had an excuse to screw him around him earlier this season but not now. The eye test and the numbers say he’s doing the right things.

I tend to agree but I still don't buy that Knoblauch would just be stubborn or have it in for Skinner. He wants to win games more than anything I'm sure.

I think we got a taste of what coaching wants for the playoffs. We had McDavid and Draisaitl, with a Skinner-RNH duo on the third line, maybe to get away from tougher matchups.

should be fun seeing Stu let in 3 goals on 10 shots as is his usual. Last game was a little better with 3 in 16 shots.

NHL coaches all want to win and are stubborn all the time.

Should be interesting to see how the Oilers look tonight. Hopefully the depth continues to show well like they have the last couple of games and that gives the whole team more confidence going into the playoffs.

I hope McDavid's injury isn't bad and this is just a reason to make him sit and get some much-needed rest before the playoffs.

Podkolzin-RNH-Arvidsson is interesting and I'm not being sarcastic. Doubt that line does much but players who theoretically should work together.
They've been playing really well the last couple of games. I'm really liking this combo. Tonight we'll see them against 1st line competition, so let's see if their strong play continues.

Here we are, just like Long John Silver. Minus a leg but still kicking ass.
Go Oilers!!

Will be interesting to see if Ryan has anything left in tank. We’re bereft of other options for that own zone start face off guy.
If his +/- in Bako or his play in the playoffs last season is any indication or his play in the NHL, he is cooked.
