Coaches aren’t perfect. Maybe he’s just stubborn and not making the right decision.I don't follow the exact placement of players in the flow of a game so much, but I'd have to guess that if Skinner isn't getting the opportunities he appears to deserve, it's likely that he isn't committing to his role in the team's systems. A player scoring goals doesn't mean he's doing all the other little things, and it undermines the whole team to allow exceptions. Also, in playoffs, anyone not committing fully will be your downfall. In the regular season you can get away with it.
I don't know if that's the reason, but it at least makes sense. Knoblauch is more knowledgeable about hockey decisions like this than anyone here.
It's also possible that against this opponent maybe spreading out talent is the right call. What would matter is how these lines are used.
He had an excuse to screw him around him earlier this season but not now. The eye test and the numbers say he’s doing the right things.
