I wish I knew. It's really frustrating.

What's truly sad is that it's not even frustrating for me. I mean it, sincerely, when I tell you that I'm a lifelong Leafs fan (clearly an enormous fan to be posting here) that doesn't even have the capacity for emotion towards this team, because the associated fun has simply been beat out of me by a lifetime of disappointment. I simply watch them for "fun" these days, expecting the inevitable let downs. Nobody expects their team to win all the time (at least they shouldn't), but to continue to be emotionally invested in groups that fail to ever to anything fun for their fans, is exhausting.

In a weird way, it's actually more comfortable to watch them piss down their legs and fall apart. That's a scene I'm use to. I know what to do with that. I know how to process that.

Kinda gross, but that's the reality of cheering for this team, at least for me.

For me and am sure for some other Leafs fans this game 7 is probably going to be a WIN-WIN scenario.

We win game 7; great! I don't have to listen to the garbage from my habs fans colleagues

We lost game 7; hopefully Dubas is FIRED!!! And we get a GM that has a foresight and knowledge about what it takes to win in the playoffs and not eff up the cap so much that you cannot even add quality depth because no cap left
This is precisely how I'm viewing it as well. It's mental but I'm really warming up to the idea of the Dubas era finally ending. Should have honestly been over after the Columbus letdown but nobody is worming their way out of anything if the Leafs complete this choke on Monday.

Leafs need to do to MTL what BOS did to us 2018 and 2019. Score at least 5 goals. I wanna see their guts on the ice.

If we don’t advance on a Monday I don’t know what I’ll do. Usually I have a team that I hate and cheer against them like the Bruins or the Islanders.

But this year with the divisional only play I haven’t been able to ratchet up my hate for those teams.

gonna be a long boring summer if we bow out early.

Even if it's Robertson, I do it. The window is only so "open" and both Tavares and Eichel can play on the wing, no problem.

Galchenyuk-Matthews-Nylander
Tavares-Eichel-Hyman

We just can't have a player getting paid as much as Mitch, who offers so very little when the games count. It's Johnny Gaudreau 2.0.
Such crazy talk (especially with Eichel's neck issues being so unknown) but that's really fun to theorize.

But you'd have to try Eichel and Matthews together. Eichel can play a legit power game when he wants to and it could be a dramatic upgrade from Matthews/Marner. He may not have the creative playmaking Marner has but his playmaking is absolutely nothing to scoff at.

I'd be hopping on the Vegas bandwagon, good team to root for.

I really don’t get it. Assemble a dominant roster, dominate in regular season, and then gear up for the playoffs and literally choke. Every year. Book it. Why? Literally an entire lifetime for most, including me. Why??
Management. We were on the right track with Lou and Babs. But MLSE decided they'd take the golden opportunity of drafting Matthews and hand it off to the youngest GM in league history who gives hugs instead of yelling at players. He's basically Milhouse. And as predicted...he's pissing away our AM years.

I literally took this whole season off . Been watching religiously since I was a kid. I just truly dislike this team from top to bottom at this point. Had so much hope after the Capitals series and Dubas literally set it on fire.

Even if the Leafs win this series, they've essentially screwed up whatever chances they had moving forward. Not ending this in Game 5 has basically cost us our Top 4 dman (Muzzin) and has quite possibly put Nick Foligno in a position to re-aggravate whatever is ailing him. This doesn't even include the injury to John Tavares and whatever may happen to our players in Game 7.

This is getting so overrated...you would think Marner is the only player in the league able to pass the puck...he's nowhere close to Wayne...the biggest problem with Marner is he's got a weak shot, so he's one dimensional in the offensive zone...who could forget Gretzky's great slapshots.

You look at guys coming up in Ottawa like Tkachuk, Batherson, Norris and Pinto and I just kinda laugh at the idea that Marner is going to outskill a group of hungry and motivated players who probably lick their chops at the idea of shutting down this fancy little player who plays scared. I would love to be on the other side of that equation.
I've said it for 2 years now... the Leafs need to replace a player like Marner with one of the Tkachuk boys. Forget about the swanky stats, YouTube highlights and xbox plays... the Leafs need a young leader who hates losing more than he likes winning. Matt or Brady Tkachuk would not be going down without a fight--and they'd be producing a lot more for their money when the games end up in the trenches.

even steve is broken

First team in NHL history to lose back-to-back playoff games to an opponent, after coming back from multi-goal defecits to tie those games.

It wouldn't be the Leafs if they weren't setting records for futility.

I don't blame Steve. It's hard to be emotionally invested in a team that never does ANYTHING right when it matters.

Honestly, I get everyone is pissed but matthews has been really solid for most of the series. Was our best player for the first couple of games. Also our best player against columbus last year and again with bruins and again with capitals. He is not a playoff choker.

Nylander has been bad in the playoffs except for this year and capitals. So he has been bad for like 4 years straight until this year.

Marner on the other hand. He hasnt had a single great series. Been bad for pretty much every single playoff series.

In my eyes, marner is the playoff choker. Nylander is getting by only because of this year. Matthews has been our best playoff player on this team overall

Regardless how you feel about Dangle, it would be a very sad day if he decides to no longer do videos at the end of this season.

I wouldn't blame him. It has to be taking years off his life to be that invested in historic futility. Particularly when the "give a shit o-meter" within the franchise does not appear to be anywhere close to that of the type of fan that Dangle represents.

I just don't think that winning and losing is important enough to the guys in this organization that have the skill to be the deciding factors in a team being "meh" vs being great.

You make a good point.

I just think it's simpler than that. If the Leafs can somehow teach Marner not to overdo it every time he get frustrated, he'd be miles ahead. But he's been like this ever since he was in Junior and he won't change without a hard ass coach.

And, for the record, I am sure Marner hates to lose as much as the Tkachuk boys.
