In other news, I really would give up a lot for Anton Khudobin, been impressed most times I've watched him this season, tonight being the most outstanding. We didn't get the bounces, no, but man that guy was solid. Easily worthy of being a number one on most teams around the league.

In his short stint in Minny and Boston, he posted excellent numbers. He's posted excellent numbers in Carolina as well.

Carolina signed him to a new 2 year deal with a cap hit of $2.25 million. Kind of a expensive back up. I wonder if they play on buying out Ward who has a cap hit of $6.3 million for two more years. Which would then make Khubodin their new starter. Then I can see them re signing Peters to be the back up.

One thing did bother me on the way home tonight. Bobby Mac said something along the lines of "well you just have to hope that everything works out and the Blue Jackets find a way into the playoffs". I turned it off at that point. I'm tired of hearing about hope, we've heard that for 13 years, and every time it's a disappointment. Hope is not a strategy, not anymore. We needed to go out and take these 2 points from a lesser opponent tonight and we failed. Bottom line, cut and dry. Either come out Thursday and get the job done or don't, but please, Lord, I don't want to hear anything more about hoping the team does well.

I really don't see there being any other option for the Canes. Ward has been a garbage fire in net this season and carries an ridiculous cap hit. If only #31 would be given more of a chance by a team I really think he can be a winner in this league. Maybe a bit too aggressive at times as we saw a bit tonight, as he was outside the crease to make a few saves, but you can't argue with 46 saves on 47 shots.

Hey I'm telling it like it is.

Anyway:
Think we can win against the Canadians Thursday night playing like we played tonight. Last time I check the Canadians are a far superior team than the Hurricanes.

The Jackets will need to play better than they did tonight Aspie... Many are using our 46 shots tonight as a reason to say the Cane win was a freak of nature... I say we did not play hard enough to win.... lazy...

The Jackets need to pick it up, 21,000 Montreal fans are waiting to see the Jackets on Thursday.... the CBJ better get their act together...

:shakehead please explain the lazy comment.

Guaranteed if we win the game 1-0 instead of losing 3-1 people would have said would have been a dominating win for the boys and these are the type of wins and efforts that the Jackets will need to have in the playoffs.

One goal in our blue paint JJ appeared slow.... the post game guys even showed it... Lazy may not be the correct word, a step behind might be a better way to describe it..

CBJ were on top of the puck all night. I have no idea what game you were watching.

Depends on the team we are playing. It we won 1-0 against a good team than I would be satisfied. But if we only won 1-0 against a hapless team like Buffalo or Carolina than I would be concern.
You may be right and I be completely wrong on this issue. But I'm nervous right now.

I didn't see a lazy team, I saw a frustrated team who was up against a hot goalie and who had ZERO puck luck. I really didn't have a problem with the way they played tonight, much like Coach Richards. In fact, I wouldn't be disappointed if they play that same game in MTL. a different result would be nice, but there shouldn't really be any changes made unless Comeau is suspended again.

One goal. But we should be sitting a guy who scored 18 goals before the Olympic break. Yeah, that makes so much sense.

Watched the game, saw the effort, saw the sterling performance of the Canes goalie. I understand we can't win em all, I know it's an edge-or-our-seat playoff race. Can't fault the guys at all.

But we've got to win this game. And I just keep circling back to JK's bullcrap trade deadline.

edit: actually, I can fault the boneheaded O-zone penalties.

Have a 4 game point streak and nobody seems to mind, lose a game after dominating and everyone loses their minds.

Seems like very few people here actually realize what JK/JD were doing at the deadline.

yes.............

Cool.............................................................

What we see: 14 years of building with no success to speak of, and only 1 playoff appearance with no wins. The fanbase is anxious for this run, and they demand the playoffs because after years and years of futility, we finally have fielded a team that could compete.

What JD/JK see: A year and some change into the building process. They have only been here that long, and came to a team expected to pick high in the draft and start from the bottom up and restart the foundation. Turns out, they were left with a better foundation then once thought, but building still needed to be done. So, they let the team play and they got hot. So they wanted to help out the streak by not only acquiring Gaborik for the stretch run, a player they could have seen help them long term and short term, while also getting rid of players they felt didn't fit in or didn't seei n their future plans. It was worth the risk.

Anyway bringing it to this year. They brought in Horton, a guy to help them build long term who has a past history of winning and is good in the room. We had the slow start, but played their way out of their inconsistency and youth to get in the race. Now the TDD comes, and they're basically in the same spot as last year. They want to help the team, but without sacrificing the future. So they dealt Gaborik away for a spare part who could play in case of injury, and draft picks for cap space to use later. They didn't want to absolutely take the team out of the race, because the goal is still the playoffs while maintaining the parts they have and building together, so they got Schultz to stabilize the back end due to the injuries.

Long story short, they want the playoffs, but they weren't going to sacrifice next year for it. They don't just want IN the playoffs, they want to make noise there. I know the old saying is once you get in you're dangerous, but seriously, this team MIGHT win a playoff round, but thats probably all the current group can do. They can be great, but they're not going to force or speed up the process in order to do it.

What they did is not the popular opinion of fans right now, but it was the best move for the future of the team. Fans demand success now due to the horrible past of the team and the failure they had, but JD/JK aren't going to speed up their building to make it up to the fans because of the previous management team failures. They will do it on their own time, because that's how to do it right.

Good history, but in short JD/JK did nothing at the deadline this year....

Back on topic, I watched the Gerbe goal tonight (1st)... horrible, the dude skated the entire length of ice and was not touched... The second goal was a rebound goal from a blueline shot in the paint when JJ was standing around watching... The third goal was another break by the Canes, the only goal Bob should have had...

In the second period the CBJ took three penalties and the Canes scored twice...

My point is, the CBJ got beat tonight by a better team on this day.... Richards better get his boys focused cus other teams are coming... ;)

Thought that the team played well last night. Just one of those games when the boys were stonewalled by the other goalie/couldn't finish. Bob, on the other hand........not so good. So it goes sometimes.

The one thing that bothered me was that Carolina played a very physical game at times and the Jackets seemed to be slowed down by it. I thought that the Jackets missed Atkinson's speed last night.

It's going to be a dog fight to the finish line for playoff berths. Losing to a team like Carolina isn't ideal, but the Jackets are still 6-3-1 in their last 10.

Vanek erupted last night in Montreal with a hat trick. Bob will need to step it up or else Thursday night at the Bell Centre could get ugly.

Joey 1 shot, Horton 2, Arty 2, Foligno 2. Lots of shots but the top guns sure weren't firing. When Wiz, JJ, Calvert, Comeau, et al are leading the shot parade I don't believe that is good for the Jackets. Umby, Dubi & Jenner did combine for 11 but that still leaves 29 from the D & 3rd & 4th lines.

5 - 1 goal games out of the last 6. That is not going to get us into the playoffs much less win any playoff games.

Regarding the lineup: Tropp played very well, Comeau, not so much. I'm not a big fan of Comeau, anyway; and, as someone posted earlier, he may be Cam's best friend. Dumb hit may open the spot back up for Atkinson and I really hope he makes it impossible for TR to take him back out. Looks like that's what it will take, too, since Richards was asked, probably by Lori Schmidt, about putting him back in and the coach said he was very happy with the way Comeau played. I was not.

Frustrating game. I thought, the whole game, that the Jackets were going to break out and put up a big number. Never happened. The first goal really hurt, it gave the Canes hope and they added a whole lot of luck and some outstanding goaltending to the mix to ruin my night. Forty-seven shots, 19-0 in the third, should net more than one goal! Tough night for Bob, but that game should not have been a shutout until the last 50 seconds. It would seem that my psychic energy was not enough. Poop.

It's a fluke loss. If the Blue Jackets outshoot everybody they play 47-20 they're winning the GD Stanley Cup this year.

This.

Plenty of hockey left to be played, just gotta continue to play like with did tonight and everything will take care of itself. It was not Bob's best performance, but everynight won't be his best performance.

Khudobin was a beast.
