It’s so much more fun when this team plays remotely close to its potential.

I’ve said it several times this year, before the Tarasenko and Kane additions, which only add to my point:

We have a very talented roster without a single play driver. Panarin used to be. Fox can be. Zib when he’s really on can be. But Panarin hasn’t been a play driver in 2 full years. Fox gets worn out doing it all by himself. Zib rarely reaches that level. Add Tarasenko and Kane, but keep in mind they feel like the new guys in town, learning to play the Rangers game, and we essentially have a loaded roster of guys who do nothing but defer to one another and wait for someone else to step up and do the heavy lifting.

When a couple of guys actually take ownership and bring it, this is what happens. Mika is having a big game. Tarasenko is getting comfortable and showing a lot of impact. Kane is getting comfortable and now he’s making decisions on his own instead of deferring. This team with 1-2 play drivers and more decisiveness could do so much damage. This team the way they normally play, where all the talent is wasted because they all just want to defer and hope someone else is going to carry the mail and do the dirty work is insanely frustrating.
