Yep, I'm the farthest thing away from a tanker as are you. Sports are about cheering for your team not against them. We are still in a good position as long as we win our share of games down the stretch. Minny is hardly this monster obstacle if we play as we can. I'm starting to feel it for tonight

Certainly, when you''re in a playoff spot, you aren't tanking. But I wouldn't go so far as to say we're in a "good" spot myself. I figure we need to win 11 games out of our remaining 18. 10 might squeak us in, maybe. 9 won't do...I don't think 93 points gets us there. So instead of being in a position where playing 500 hockey for the remainder gets us at least a 100 point season and a sure PO spot like we were 6 weeks ago, we're now faced with pretty much having to go a game over .500 to even have a hope of getting in. And really, we probably need 2 games over .500

I just feel like even 9 wins isn't really a given with this team the way things have been going. Frankly, I'd prefer (and thought we were in for) a less "interesting" finish to the season myself. I never would have believed we'd morph into a sub-500 team like we have the past month or so. We can't afford very many more losses this year.

If we could go 6-3 over our next 9 games, then we'd be in something more like a good position.

I always feel confident in a win against Minnesota. Somehow I still haven't learned.

Not true , we destroyed them in the 2018 playoffs when we went to the Conference final. Buff had alot to do with that though, man this team miss's Buff.
Not the same team, but we can do it again.

I don't trust Calgary or Nashville to do better than .500

I'd would say we are in a good spot, because we are really only battling 2 other teams for a playoff spot. Lets use 95 points as the target, as that is pretty close to the playoff line most seasons. To get there we would need to go 10-8 (.556 points %) and we would have a ROW of 45. Calgary would have to go 12 - 5 (.706 point %) with a ROW of 39. Nashville would have to go 13 - 8 (.619 points %) ROW of 41. So yes we are in a better position than the 2 teams we are fighting with and even if this came to pass we would have the tie breaker over both of them.

I'd really like to share you optimism right now, I really would, but both Calgary and Nashville have had multiple 3 or 4 game winning streaks. Nashville has won 3 in a row twice in the last month or so. Meanwhile, we've won 5 of our last 16 games.

The moderator said he doesn't trust the Preds or the Flames to do better than .500. Again, I hope he's right. But I'm expecting we won't either. And if either of the two teams on our heels put together another 3 game winning streak, it doesn't look promising for our heroes.

I always claim the Miss Sunshine role and skip over most of the negativity in here, but I'm not feeling optimistic about our playoff chances these days. Of course, all that could be brushed away by a nice 3 or 4 game winning streak...

Yep, true enough. Maybe all three teams are going to fight to get in with 90 pts lol.

We needed Chevy to have traded Stanley and Schmidt then Samberg and Capo would be playing. Please play good Stanley and Schmidt that's all we ask.
I'd have been really surprised if they dealt him at the tdl. We'd be an injury or two away from heinola coming in and no one would want that in a high stakes PO game. This org loves Stanley Chevy included.

IMO
it comes down to which goalie u trust the most. All 3 of WPG NSH and CGY are pretty close in goals for per game. But I'd trust Helle a bit more than Saros and both a lot more over Markstrom.
NSH also had a pretty soft schedule lately and I think their talent/skill departures (ekholm, nino, Jeannot, Johansen+Forsberg injured,) will eventually show up against the upper echelon teams.

If we can get coach O'Houlihan signed as an assistant coach before puck drop, we have a chance

Let's revisit Money Pucks odds again next week, lose tonight and have a poor road trip and you will see completely different odds when Boston shows up here next week

See my post on Money Puck odds. They aren't fans they just run numbers. Fans have a tremendous recency bias which for the most part makes them horrible predictors.

Agreed and if we win tonight and have a good road trip we will have completely different odds when we play Boston.

According to Money Puck the odds of making the playoff is:

Jets 79.1 %
Flames 47.0 %
Preds 14.9 %

Interestingly they also have us as the favourites to win tonight's game at 59.7 %.

I think it's possible to forget at times that the team is nevertheless not as bad as is perceived. Accusations of me trying to turn you all into degenerate gamblers aside (thank you for the compliment, though!), there's a reason why the bookies do well and the punters do not :)

Well, I know what clip I'm going to post in the victory GDT :)
